The last vacation sports event I did I never heard anything until right before the event, so that's what I am expecting.

paddle2paddle - 2008-07-29 10:50 PM Does anyone know what the bike and run routes are? It would be nice to look them over completely before the race.

Route for the sprint.

I didn't see a map with a route, was I not looking in the right place? All I saw was a single point.

Sorry, here's the description from the active.com website:

*The RUN is a 3.1 miles around Lake Phalen clockwise. Intl. Distance make two loops. There is a water stop at each mile on the run.

I am in for the International distance again this year. I will also be bringing my boat for them to monitor the swim again this year. Hopefully it won't be 60 and misty again this year.

I'm looking forward to somewhat cooler lake temps with the nice overnight lows we've been having.

Ugh. Between a sore back, and late-season lack of motivation, this race may turn out to be more of an exercise in finishing compared to how I've done earlier this summer.

I am getting to the same point. It is my last race of the season. I am running out of motivation to put in the swim time. I need to run more to get ready for Twin Cities. I am going out to improve on last years time, but would be happy if I am just close.

Me too.  I completely over running at this point and just want to ride my bike.  Fortunately a friend has dragged me out for several OWS that I wouldn't have done otherwise.  I think my Oly run is going to be a totaly disaster.  I assume it's at least pretty flat, going around the lake.

The cool part about this race is that it goes very near my Grandma's house on Larpenteur, just off of Wheelock Parkway.  So my dad is going to bring her over to the corner on Larpenteur and they will sit and watch the bike on lawnchairs.  How great we get to go by twice!  So if you see a tiny old lady with "blond" hair with her 65 year old son, give them a wave.

I just looked at the diagram of the bike route. When you click on that map to zoom, you can start to make out street names. The only problem is that it looks as if the sharp corner that you make as you start to head back towards T2 puts us in the middle of the lake.

I think he has us going on Shore drive for the turnaround, but that's not where his hand-drawn line is. Can anyone who's done this course before comment?

You wrap around the lake a little on East Shore drive, then double back at Arlington.

x2

This race is going to be a disaster for me, but oh well. I just barely got under 3:00 last year, but the swim was short. I'll be absolutely shocked if I can do that this year.

Yeah, this editor inserts its own html - you can cut and paste the hyperlink, though, and it should work.

I got an e-mail from Randy and the race site is updated with full details now.

And not that anyone cares, but I realized I was wrong when I identified the location of my Grandma's spectating spot.  She lives on Edgerton, so they will be on Edgerton and Wheelock.  You'd think I would remember that since she's lived there since like 1948.

Perhaps we could all try to find each other right before the pre-race meeting. One of you who have done the race before want to suggest a place?

I think everyone should dress exactly like they are in their avatar, and then we'll recognize each other better. Emily should be particularly easy to find with the umbrella, and of course rowdypaint on the horse shouldn't be too hard to pick out.

Looks like it could be a hot one, accuweather saying high of 89....

I will be easy to find. I will be in a greenish no sleeve Ron Jon's surf shop shirt with Yellow shorts before the race. I will also probably the only athlete to show up via boat. As the race gets closer I will stripdown to my County cycles trisuit.

You'll see me, I'll have two tattoos on my legs(1 of a bull, the other with russian lettering) and one big one on my arm and maybe passed out with how hot it will be.

See ya there

Weather.com shows 62 degrees at 6am and 72 degrees at 9am.  I wouldn't mind it a bit cooler, myself.

Good luck all - hope to see many of you.

For a meeting place, there is a deck on the east side of the pavillion, perhaps this is a good meeting spot during the pre-race mtg?

Also, has anyone been out to Phalen - Weeds and/or Water Temp update?

Good Luck to all ! !
