Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Threadmattajw - 2009-02-02 1:58 PM Ok...random IMFL thought for the day....I wasn't going to work out at lunch, i was thinking that i would just chill in car and listen to music in parking lot a work. Then I said to myself...Matt you have an Ironman you are signed up for in November...so i got right up and went to Gym. Instead of my normal 5 miles i ran 5.5. It is amazing what signing up for an ironman does to your motivation. I swear, once you sign up for the race there is not a day that goes by you don't think about it. I thought that might pass after i did one..but apparantly not.
You aren't lying...I haven't done an IM yet, but let me tell you that my mantra in this base training phase, when I've had workouts I didn't want to do or didn't want to wake up early for, etc. has been "It'll make you an Ironman...It'll make you an Ironman" AND "An Ironman wouldn't quit." There are also days I'm excited about it, and there have been days I'm petrified about it...and maybe it's less the day itself, and more the training I know I will need to do in order to make race day successful (it's the 100 mile training rides that I think intimidate me the most). 277 days.
