time for another one of my newbie questions.  Do they provide a swim cap that I would have to wear or can I use my own?

They did not provide a cap last year.

P.S. - The only dumb question is the one you don't ask!

Most races do provide a cap. But most races are outside and start in a wave. They give out different caps for different divisions. Also to help make you a little more noticiable.

Last year they did not provide a swim cap. The swim in in the rec center pool. Guards are all around the pool.

I just signed up for this race. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up before they raise the price.

I am in (thus saving 10$). Given that this race is in Ohio and starts at 730A in the glorious month of April what do we wear? Should I rock the speedo for whole swim bike run? Should I pack my snowsuit? I am completely baffled on how to plan the transition area with a wide range of clothing options.

take everything to the race, decide race morning. if its over 50 i wear nothing but the tri suit or shorts, if under a top or arm warmers go on after the swim.

how is the swim portion handled? down and come back in the next lane and repreat across all 8 lanes? Do you start in 5 second intervals based on the time provided at registration? How does transition work (where do you put your stuff) for a pool based triathlon?

you swim down one lane, back in the next till you get through the pool.
start every 5 sec based on seed time (you can move if you feel you are in the wrong place, as the start time is chip based when you cross the matt).

tranisition is right outside the pool door in the parking lot.

Time to bump this one back up to the top of the page. We're 36 days out. To our new BT friends who are making this one their inagural race, how's the training going? Have you stuck with it? Are you starting to crap your pants trying to figure out just what you've gotten yourself into? Any questions you've been afraid to ask?

To our salty vets: Has anyone set a time goal or any other type of goal for this race? I'm looking to break 1:20. This was my goal last year and I missed it by about 4 minutes. I'm in better shape this year but have been doing more lower intensity training, not too much speed stuff. So I think 1:20 is just about right.

Crapping my pants?  Yes.  Part of me keeps thinking "WTF am I doing?".  I did a little indoor tri last weekend and wow my run sucks.  The phrase "old, fat and stupid" keeps going through my head.   BUT my 'conversion time' was under 2 hours, so I was pretty pleased.

Been on the road with no access to a gym for the past 3 days...but I've been pulling 3 sport workouts lately- bike 8 miles to Y, swim 1000, run 2, bike 8 back home.  I feel bad @ss but I think I need to focus on the bike OR the run- break up my workouts- one in the am and 1 in the pm.

Meah.  And I need a new tri suit.  Lost too much weight an my XL dosen't fit anymore.

Not that I'm complaining.

I'll take a sharpie and to the BT logo on my calf, a la MDOT style

The phrase "old, fat and stupid" keeps going through my head.

I think it is time for a new mantra.

Something like "I'm blessed to be here doing this"  "I do this because I can"  "I'm not in the DNS group and I won't be in the DNF group" "I refuse to be old, fat and stupid" "Look how far I've come" "who's my next victim?"  "I will not slow down"   "I am faster than you"

Go Girl.

I think you are awesome and every day you get better -Brue

Naw, I finished TOP- 5th in my age group and the 2nd longest distance in the swim out of the females.  Like I said, pretty pleased.

'old, fat and stupid' came from somewhere else- read my blog from March 5th.

The mantra is "Because I can".

i am on one side feeling good about things, and on the other getting a bit nervous going into the last few weeks before this race, should be a good time!

This is a good thing. Congratulations on the weight loss. I'm getting to be in the same boat as you, all my XL tee shirts (a staple of my fashion diet) are getting too big and just hanging off me. Guess I'll have to do more race and order large race shirts.

I'm looking at under 1:10  (8/35/24). I ride that course regularly, and I don't particularly like the hill on Stillwell Beckett, and I have a feeling that it is going to be a bit hard in competition having to dodge the folks who have tipped over half way up...

No. You're seeded by the time you said you do 400m in when you filled out your race entry form.

I guess I better register for the race.  I'm not very fast so my sprint times are never great. However, this race is close to home and I have participated the last few years, what better way to start the season.

David tri's - 2008-12-31 11:35 AM Is anyone from the Cols area planning on doing this one? I'm considering adding it to my schedule but want to keep costs down. I was wondering if anyone is driving down that morning and wants to carpool and split gas costs. If we get a large group from Cols who all want to travel together I can drive my RV. I can take about 6-8 people and bikes in that. A smaller group and maybe we can just car it. Post here or send me a PM if anyone wants to carpool.

David - I think I'm in.

I wasn't going to do it because I have class but I just don't think I care if I skip a day now.

I'll let you know in the next few days if I register. I'm definitely in for car poolin if I go.

Oh, I just saw the later post by newbz about carpoolin.  If I can avoid making the drive solo - I'll travel with anyone who will have me.
