Ok, I was really thinking about NOT signing up for Longhorn this year due to all the training it takes to get ready for it (not because of any bad experiences), but the thought of being able to do the race and NOT have to walk a mile plus with all your gear when you are finished is certainly appealing! We'll see, I will be there to spectate if I am not doing it.

The finish in the arena is a definite. I'm going to update the website shortly, with the new maps, etc.

Just a little busy with Lone Star stuff right now

come on down!!!!!
No drafting on Longhorn course. It's a tough course

Keith, you know I love your races and I'd encourage any and all to do Longhorn, but I wouldn't say there was no drafting. There was some pretty bad stuff going on in the over the first part of the course last year.

Hell, one guy was so bad I actually noted his bib number. I had him in sight for probably a total of 10 minutes off and on over the the first 10 miles. Only once was he more than 5 feet off someone else's wheel. I'm never letting something that blatant slide again. I'll call them out right there on the course.

Longhorn is going to be my first HIM and I love the idea of an arena finish.
Man, it's the closest to feeling like a professional athlete I will ever come.

VERY EXCITED!!!!

Keith - how is registration going for this and when do you expect to fill up? I'm planning on asking for contributions to my tri-reigstration fund for my birthday later this month, and I want to be sure that this race won't already be full so I don't miss out!  Any guidance?

It's a little over half full right now.

Just got done driving the revised bike course, as it can't come down Decker Lake Road with the T2 being in Leudecke Arena. Nice, and the pavement's better. Will be posting the new bike course map, and updating the website with the new finish, etc shortly.

Also went into the arena. They had the astroturf laid down, as it's now home to an Arena Football Team. It's going to be an awesome finish line....

WOO-HOO! I did not get a job I had interviewed for... which had about 60% travel... so now I can sign up for LONGHORN!!!

My TRI SEASON is ON! I can't wait.

PS- I already have a job, so it's no biggie that I didn't get it... if anyone cares.

^^^^ Same here. Loved Lonestar and now I'm hooked. An arena finish sounds great.

Moving the finish line to the BAT CAVE would ROCK!!!!!!!
My wife would have no excuse not go now. She's always saying "it's so hot, I never know when your going to finish..." Plus, I think I would be more inclined to watch other finishers in the A/C.

Do you think there will be any spots left by mid August? I'd like to do it but it will all come down to how my running comes along this summer.

I'd doubt it, but you never know. I'm guessing it'll be sold out by the end of July, but it could be later....

I'd probably send Keith (KEJ) a private message or e-mail...he's the RD and pretty much knows all things Longhorn.

working on finalizing the camping. You'll be able to tent camp or RV camp right next to the Arena......

NOW, looking at a Sunday night finishers party at the LEGENDARY STUBB'S BBQ, with a great band, and more.....finalizing that stuff too

I just saw the new bike course on the website. Any reasons why it was changed up other than to accommodate the arena finish? Is this the end of Quadzilla for the bike?

If it's the route I saw a few weeks back, yep.

Yep, Keith said the bike course wouldn't have Quadzilla anymore due to the changes.

That's too bad.  It was a great feature of the course.  Forced folks to think about their strategy a bit, being just before the start of the run.
