If you could hook it up to an iPod, then everytime you are behind someone you could play the music from Jaws.....da nup, da nup, da nup How funny would that be? Someone tell me about this hill coming out of Mtn Park? What, the 88th mile marker?NatNegativeSplit - 2009-07-07 2:11 PM I have a bike radio ... She is not kidding. I was thinking that Nat could lead the pack down 400, with her radio/iPod-thingie blaring "We Are the World," and all of the triathletes, roadies, and other cyclists could join hands and pedal together in unison, if only for a moment... |

The last ride I did I got all sorts of looks beforehand, and while I was watching a draft line operate (that was really cool to watch BTW). Of course, around mile 30 everyone warmed up. I ... If you thought watching a paceline in a local ride is cool, you should catch the TdF team time trial on Versus tonight. I watched the Team Time Trial at the Tour de Georgia last year at Road Atlanta and that was REALLY cool. Those guys spent about a second or two on the point and pealed back. It was something to see in person. I worked as a marshal at that Tour de Georgia. The time trial was awesome! There was a big difference between powerhouse Slipstream and the all Japanese squad (name escapes me). I actually was holding the seats of the riders at the start. I gave a extra little push to my Jittery Joes friends on their start ![]() The echelon the day before was even more incredible. Don't worry about (us) roadies, just don't get aero in a paceline and you're fine. I go back and forth between the two worlds and am dipping back into tris a bit this year (itty bitty ones). Roadies can hate on other roadies too. I did tour de cure and we were in a paceline the entire time but we were riding with the worst bike handler ever. He was very squirrelly and scary. I cursed him ![]() I think I'm doing 62 on this but the start time is killing me. I'll be in a Sorella Cycling kit. We're friendly chicks. |

I am never fast on the bike. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just checked the map, and it look like the brown_dog's will be at the top of the hill about mile 85 after you exit Mountain Park. You'll know you are in Mountain Park when the banjo music from Deliverance starts up. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congratulations to the finishers! We sat for about 90 minutes at the top of the hill and watched the 100 milers and Natalie's Dad suffer up that hill. I saw a lot of strong cyclists on tri bikes and I assume those were the folks on here I didn't recognize.

I didn't get to make it due to me kayaking Saturday and beating my entire body on rocks for 6hours straight. But I'd love to see some pictures if anyone has them. I'll be sure to do it next year and maybe try the 61mile or Century. |

It's only recently I've become brave enough to drive through there at night. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() that course had crazy hills throughout. it was madness and the humidty and heat got pretty yucky too. and we road an extra 10 miles but all and all a good time. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow! Nice pictures. I can't imagine how pissed off the cars were who got screwed. And I wonder what the thoughts of the people going up GA400 were. In my job I have to sometimes shut down roadways (not highways) and people get irate if they have to wait 30seconds. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have to admit that I did not think this ride was going to be as hilly as it was. Nuts...just nuts! Especially the last 20 miles. I decided after we landed on Saturday night that since I haven't ridden my bike in 10 days that this would be a good trial by fire. And fire it was. I had on my All3sports kit, anybody see me? All I know is that the last couple of climbs I was in my granny gear, out of the saddle and barely doing 7 mph. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow that was so hard! Okay, disclaimer: I think everytime I ride my bike it is hard and granted, I don't ride all that often but that century by far was the hardest ride I have ever done. In fact I would put it at number 2 for athletically arduous events I have done and that is just behind the Twisted Ankle Trail marathon. I told my husband about the course and his response was "who thought that course up!?" I don't know but I think it was someone who has never ridden it. Carnage on this ride came early. I had a girl directly in front of me do a 360 roll from the pavement over into the grass while still completely clipped in going up one of those hills in Huntcliff when she just lost the momentum. Then a guy blew a tire and flatted in front of me on the next hill. People were hopping off and walking left and right and all this in the first 15 miles. I am thinking that first 20 wouldn't have been nearly as hard if it hadn't been so crowded and people knew that hey, if you use the momentum on the down hill it makes getting up the uphill much easier. Still, a really fun day. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() x2 on that point that the designer of the route was not a cyclist. i went with 2 cyclists who both thought it was the hardest century they ever did... i crashed early in that neighborhood. the crowds and the steep grade hills were a recipe for disaster. im home instead of work nursing a messed up back and fractured self esteem haha |

He is a cyclist and tends to look at things from a fairly narrow viewpoint. His heart is in the right place, but if you've read any of his email missives (esp. those that relate to the bike/car relationship), you know that diplomacy and a broader viewpoint are not part of his MO. Re: Huntcliff, how was that n'hood carved out of those cliffs? Was really glad to be on the left side of the road when we came upon "Walkers Hill." |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was also a bit surprised to see the number of bike/walkers up that first hill (in the neighborhood). I was not at all surprised to see everyone walking their bikes up out of Mountain Park and the few hills after that. I would definitely say the last 20 miles were much more difficult than the entire first 80. |
