PennState - 2009-07-27 12:58 PM I'm glad for everyone who got in, but my question is how many people did they let in for 2010?

2258 raced this year with 2051 finishing this year

*my* guess is that they increased the number of entrants this year as their were HUGE lines here.

Guess will find out next year huh?

does it matter?

if so, why?  my thoughts would be the bike is not a draft issue due to the hills breaking it up, and as far as the swim, 2250, 2500, does it matter?  washing machine either way.....

serious question....

I'm in!!!  I've been trying to figure out which race to do, and I got to reading this thread . . . well, you know what happened.  Called my husband and begged . . . one more time . . . and he finally said, "Oh, whatever!"

Did IMFL '08, so I know where this insanity leads.  Congrats to all who made the list.  Wonder how long it will stay open?

Are you in for next year, Fred?  Or are you doing Wisconsin?

Yes it does matter. The swim is already a big problem... Let me know what you think of it after next year

There was a LOT of drafting on the bike that *I* saw as well.

It's absolutely NOT up to me... M-DOT decides the numbers. Whatever I think is irrelevant. I do think it impacts the race and safety as well. But I did sign-up for 2010 so obviously I am accepting their decision.

*My* worry is that with new ownership the brand is looking at growing revenues. This can be done in a number of ways, but increasing the entry number is probably as easy a method as there is... but this may not be in all the athletes best interests.

For example, at IMKY they are letting in approximately 3,000 entrants this year (that's what the RD said)... but they have a time-trial swim start. At LP there are TWO loops to the swim and a TT start would not be possible.

Truly I'm happy for anyone that got in... just a little concerned that there is a limit to the total # of entrants that is manageble at LP.

I just checked number of finishers from yesteday vs. last year and interestingly there were almost 200 more people that finished in the pouring rain than finished last year.

I'm in. It'll be my 2nd (1st in 2007) I didn't expect it to stay open so long.  I was one of the  ones clicking refresh at 12.00 when it kept telling me "too busy, try again in a few minutes".  Now I can just tell my hubby I've saved $800 by not going for a community spot (option 2 as I really wanted to do this one again).
My coach got pulled off the bike last year for being "out of it" which they traced back to concussion on the swim so there are concerns there.  I think the organisers were talking to her for opinions etc so at least they are considering the safety issues (she's one of the sub 1:00 swimmers that start up the front)

365 days to go (or is it 364 now?!)
