Coach ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() PennState - 2009-07-27 11:58 AM I'm glad for everyone who got in, but my question is how many people did they let in for 2010? 2258 raced this year with 2051 finishing this year *my* guess is that they increased the number of entrants this year as their were HUGE lines here. Guess will find out next year huh? ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, many people signed up @ RI, all the peeps up in LP plus those online, it makes you go mmmmm! The swim is crowded as it is and the bike does get crowded specially on the out and back which tends to be a drafting zone. The Keane descent can get hairy with so many people specially on the 2nd loop; I am excited about the IM but man that does sounds like a lot of people! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() strates - 2009-07-28 12:06 AM How are you all reserving hotel rooms? Seems the host hotel is booked up, and all the travel services I can think of only allow reservations to be made through June 2010, it seems. Do I have to call some one? Is there somewhere with a list of Lake Placid hotels? Courtyard just told me reservations will be available after August 11. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks. Get on the phone and start calling now! Most of the hotels are booked with waiting lists. I booked at Northwoods on Main St, .25 mile walk to the start. It's setting me back roughly $240/night and a 5-night minimum, but I booked 6 anyway. They also required a non-refundable deposit of the first night. I waitlisted at several other places and a handful haven't opened reservations yet (Crowne Plaza is opening in the next week, they couldn't give me an exact date). This IM is costing me way more than flying and shipping a bike to IMWI! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another great option is VRBO.com. There are tons of houses that you can rent. They are all ridiculously expensive, but if you organize with some other BTers, it may be reasonable. Just don't take my house ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() thelunchbox - 2009-07-28 8:12 AM The wife and I walked the strip getting info from all the hotels/motels we could find. Hit a few agencys checking on renting houses/condos, as well. House/condo rental will set you back $3,500 for the week to start. More for larger places, less for just out of town. Hotels all had minimum bookings of between 5-7 nights. Prices ranged from $225 to 300+ for basic rooms, more for suites/kitchenettes. Some opened bookings Sunday after registration (earlier if you stayed this year), others had later dates where they would start booking rooms. My wife left me on the registration line to get in line for the hotel registration that began at eleven as we weren't taking chances. Right location, right price, right place. They anticipated booking full yesterday, but call to see if they have availability. Golden Arrow. Every guest we spoke to raved. 200yards from transition and swim start. makes me feel better....being at the northwoods with a little kitchen will be nice....seems like all hotel are in the same range.... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() geezz! I tried for 2 straight hours to get in and DID NOT! I was trying on my iphone and computer. I had all my info typed in and it kept saying an error has occurred and to refresh or go back. I just assumed it was cuz it was busy but now i wonder if I messed something up???? NO big deal. I'll just get a community slot if I want to do it plus it will give me more time to think about it. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Golden-Arrow already full, booked a room at the Mirror Lake Inn, not cheap $325/night, but a small price to pay for my family having to put up with another year of lost weekends for training. It's all a tradeoff. I'll start saving now, they do offer a full refund if canx within 3 weeks of arrival. Did not want to pass up a hotel close to race and wait for the 50 weeks out window to open. Good Luck - Jim |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am in again. After a disappointing race I will be back to kick some butt. This year we stayed at the Addirondack inn great location right accross from the swim start, but once again they raised there rates from 210.00 two years ago to 2.75.00 this year with a 7 day minimum. I think it is way overpriced and frankly taking advantage of the Ironman so we booked at the Golden Arrow for $339.00 with a full kitchen, and a much bigger room. We are sure to be saving a ton of money by not eating out so much. See you all next year. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How did you guys book rooms already? Everything in Lake Placid either shows full, or shows you have to book 50 weeks in advance (ie Marriott/Holiday Inn). DId you book while there, or did you call the hotels directly to book? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Crowne Plaza starts booking on August 9th. $300 an night. Suites start at $500 if I remember correctly. We checked with the front desk when we were there. Top notch place but keep in mind there is a long steep hill to get from the street to the lobby. We decided it would be torture dragging our two kids up that all week. The finishers trekking back up to their rooms after the race looked like they were being tortured as they were headed home, especially the ones pushing their bikes up that hill. They should put in a gondola. Just something to think about. |

I called northwoods....if you try and book on-line, it says nothing available. call them, tell them its for IMLP, and you should get something.... one night up front, non refundable, fully charged june 1, non refundable.... |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Golden Arrow is the place to be. For those with kids it's a homerun. Having been there for 4 years now I couldn't think about staying anywhere else. I would suggest getting your names on the waitlist because I know for fact they had numerous cancellations this year. They are lake front and have an indoor pool so all bases are covered for the kids. It's also close enough to the course that you won't miss family members if timed correctly. I don't know if my son would have gone back after the rain fest last year but because he could leave and go swim inside and than come back and check on me it made the day much more tolerable for all. This year he took a canoe across the river and cheered racers on at the run turn. Pretty cool. Other than that I would call the lake Placid Visitors Bureau and they can email a list of hotels with phone numbers and availabilty. Good Luck. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in for the second time. I signed up on Saturday the 25th before the race. It's amazing how many people were in line. PennState has a point. After seeing the people onsite registering the 25th and 27th makes me wonder how many will start in 2010. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() spoke to someone this morning who volunteered at IMLP to sign up for 2010, he was working with someone who was involved with the athelte sign up on Saturday. They were 300 under where they were last year for the athlete sign up. Of course, who knows how reliable that number is...it could have started at 30..... i wonder if this trend carried over to new registraints on-site as well?? who knows...just thought I would post and i'm sure the possibility of more starting participants is likely.... |
