bolt has broken 5 WR's in his last 5 races... phelps has broken a TON of records in many different swims.. hard to say

But then again ..... almost every single swimming record has been broken and reset again in the last 2 years because of the suits.  So should those "count?"

I think its great what Phelps has done recently but he has too many mistakes... pot.. his DUI and almost hitting a parked cop car a few years ago in Salisbury, MD ( I went to school there.  He was the joke of the town)

I think more Bolt.  Imagine if Bolt was American.

Was his going flat out until the end or did he relax a little?


He did, imho, slow down a bit near the end.  But this time he wasn't relaxing, he was just tired.

Stunning achievement, but this was the first time that he was tired at the end of a race.

He is almost certainly capable of doing better if he runs the 100m and 200m on separate weeks.

I guess winning more gold medals than anyone in history isn't good enough for Salisbury, MD, you know, Salisbury being the pinacle of modern civilization...

I completely agree with you that Salisbury is the pinnacle of modern civilization But at the time he was a joke.  Mind you during this time he didn't win any medals and was a very cocky swimmer.  I'm sure hes a great guy.

This is hard to answer but I would say Phelps has been better for his sport the last 4 years and Bolt the last 2 years for his.

Actually now that I think about this more, Phelps has been the better swimmer the last 4 years and Bolt the better runner the last 4 years.

So I'd say Bolt.


I'll say Bolt when he medals in the 200m butterfly run as well as the freestyle run.
