Last night at our tri club meeting we had about 12 finishers talking about their experience. I think 8 of the 12 used Be Tri Fit, competitive. They all really enjoyed that program. |

It was great, hot tub, cold pool, lap lane (endless pool type). 1.2 miles from the IM Village. About $100 a night if you get it early. |

I hit "register" at 11:00 a.m. and got the message that they couldn't process my request because of "unexpected high volume," but the second time I clicked "register," which was only a few seconds later, I did get in. I am doing California 70.3 on March 27, 2010, and my strategy is to to focus entirely on that race and then move to IM training the day after. I figure if I have a very solid HIM base, then eight months will be more than enough to prepare for an IM. Of course, I have been known to be delusional. Take at least a few weeks recovery after Oceanside. There is -plenty- of time between the two for a long plan. These were my two races for for 2009. I took a really light April after the HIM and then started the 30 week IM program for November. |

Expert 1116 Thornton, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread What are people's suggestions as to when to arrive/leave when planning the trip for next year? Keep in mind this is my first IM, so I probably won't be as efficient on the logistic side of things before/after the actual race itself. Plus I'd like to make sure I get the "full experience" during the days surrounding the event. I'll be driving in from CO because I don't want to deal with airlines with my bike and other gear (but I'll have another driver with me so I don't have to drive 14 hours back after doing the race) For those that have done it before when you suggest getting into town? Wednesday? Thursday? Would you suggest staying as close to the starting line as possible or have other preferred to be a mile or two away and just ride a bike over to take care of packet pickup and to empty my wallet in exchange for IM gear. What is it like the day after the race (Monday)? Is there anything to stick around for or do they start packing everything up and I might as well hop in the car and get home to my own bed? Any help on the logistics on the days prior would help. |

Any help on the logistics on the days prior would help. We got in town on Thursday and had plenty of time to get everything done. This also provided time for the practice swims on Friday and Saturday morning. We had originally planned on arrive Friday, but since driving I didn't want to chance any issues, getting in late and missing the race check in deadline (4pm Friday). I think the lodging location should depend on your logistics. We payed a small fortune to stay at the host hotel, but it worked out great for the family (my parents, wife, and our young children) to shuffle back and forth during the race day. If it had just been my wife along we would have stayed farther away for for sure. Monday morning had finishers gear for sale as well as picking up your special needs bags. The rest of the event was pretty much packed up. Also note that bike check in is Saturday so you have to find a way to get to the race Sunday morning if your bike is your transportation. |

Veteran 273 Virginia Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Since the race is Sunday I will plan to arrive Thursday I think. I did a Wednesday arrival this year for IMFL but that race is on a Saturday and it worked well. As far as leaving, I would suggest not leaving until Tuesday if your driving long. Use Monday to buy finisher gear and relax. I did a 13 hour drive this year and I wouldnt have wanted to do it the day after the race. Just my .02 |

This year I took a 11 hour flight home to PA from Cd'A Idaho on Monday. 'cause I couldn't move around much i was very uncomfortable. As to when to arrive, I like Wed. because I have a little extra time to soak it all in and still be a bit of a tourist. If you've never done an "Ironman" race, you'll be amazed at the little details and cool stuff that goes on. They really do offer a great event! |

Expert 1116 Thornton, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Looks like the general consensus is Thursday arrival and Tuesday departure. Which is what I'll plan for. Thanks everyone. As for the hotel location... I'm going to bring a backup/secondary bike, so I suppose I could deal with being a little away from the action to save some money. It's amazing to think that I could have buy a new bike for the cost of what this race is going total up to. |

Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Just did 2009 to commemorate 25th aniversary of my 1984 finish at Kona. Planning to volunteer in 2010 then do it again in 2011. Wanted to make sure that I finished in 2009 so I finished with way too much left. Planning to lay it out in 2011. The race organization is great and the course is terrific-especially from the psychological aspect with the possible exception of the cold water. Will follow along your training with you, and possibly give some input from my experience if needed |

Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Someone asked about the BT training programs. I used the full ironman beginner heart rate program (there is also an RPE one) and it was perfect. Had a very easy day--too easy as a matter of fact. I felt that the program really had me dialed in. |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I am registered for the 2010 Ironman AZ as my first full Ironman. I have done a couple of Half IM's and thought it was time to move up. I am flying from Pennsylvania so I figured I would arrive either Tues or Weds and leave later in the day on Monday. Still looking at places to stay through. A question for those who have already done the race: Are the roads for the run well lit after dark or should I look at getting a head lamp for the run. I know some IM's run on fairly dark roads if you are still going after sunset. Thanks, can't wait to see you all there. |

I went to the IM AZ page and clicked on the lodging button - http://www.ironmanarizona.com/lodging.php- and went to that meetingmax thing at the bottom and went through that. It took like a day and a half to confirm the reservation though. Just about the time I was going to call and ask about it, I got the email. |

You will not need a lamp on race day...I ran the entire 3rd lap in the dark and it was well lit. |
