Best concert? (Page 2)

Pat Green throws the best shoes! Although I am not too sure about the upcoming dates with Kenny Chessney, not a big fan.

Secondly-its got to be Dispatch or OAR! for the jams!

Got to agree with Springsteen, circa 1985, with the E Streeters. Played for an hour and a half, took a ten-minute break and returned for nearly two hours. Hardest working man in show business.

Wow, I am a concert buffer. I love going to concerts....
- Without a doubt Pink Floyd, The Division Bell Tour 1994 Miami. I will never forget that concert. I always dreamed about going to a Pink Floyd Concert and there I was. The lights, the sound, the videos...
- I also always wanted to go to a Led Zeppelin concert, I never had the opportunity but I went to the Jimmy Page - Robert Plant No Quarter concert in Miami 1995.
- Beastie Boys last october. I took my nephew for his 12 b-day. His very first concert. Concert was ok but just the ocasion was so special....

Off the beaten-path, check out:

* Kelly Ritche Band (electric blues, awesome female guitar player -unique and great stuff). Just saw her show last nite!

* Joe Bonamassa (electric blues, just awesome)

Really off the beaten-path:

* East West - California Hard Core Rock - with a positive message (believe it or not) - these guys are acquaintances of mine.

Too many to remember, but ...
One of my favorites recently has been a band called The Atomic Punks. They're an early Van Halen (David Lee Roth) tribute band and put on a great show.

I also remember having a great time seeing Omara Portuondo and her Cuban All Stars (or something like that) AKA The Buena Vista Social Club. She's probably in her seventies but brought the entire 2000-seat theatre to its feet!

I was blown away at a Tuck and Patti concert (that's Tuck Andress). If you know anything about playing the guitar, you'll say to yourself, "You can't do that with one guitar!" But I saw him live and he does things that I've never seen before. And the music is exquisite.

One of the worst concerts I went to was Bob Dylan back in the early '90s when he toured with the lead guitarist from Saturday Night Live. I think he was drunk, he rushed through his short set, he never spoke to the audience even once, and he sounded like Bugs Bunny with laryngitis. I was really disappointed because I really like his (early) music.

Les Claypool and any band he's with at the time. Primus, The Frog Brigade. He is an incredible bassist and fun to watch. In fact, he's going to be in Chicago the 21st and 22nd of July. Yippee!!

I've seen alot of great shows over the years, but my favorite was the Tubes "Love Bomb" tour. Mid 80's.

and this crazy small venue concert with James, Tom Tom Club and Black Sheep (yes, a rap group) was a VERY fun concert and different.

i know i'm forgetting some...although i don't attend a lot of concerts...

I'd have to vote for seeing the 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs' at the Empty Bottle in Chicago.  This was about 3+ years ago, way before they hit it big. 

It's more a bar with a stage in the corner than an actual kinda concert gig.  The opening act was playing, so I was standing up by the stage watching them, drinking my beers.  The opening act finishes, and the people right next to me, that were just hanging out there the whole time enjoying the show walk up on the stage.  Turns out they were the YYY's and I was just standing there with them before the show!

And they totally rocked.

I agree about Dave Matthews. They played in 1993 at a fraternity at my college. The next summer I saw them at The Muse in Nantucket - that was one of my top concerts ever. Teeny tiny place - I was able to squeeze up to the front row. We saw Boyd on the beach the next day. Between then and now I have seen them about 14 times (I am stll such a teenager! I always feel so old there) and no shows have been as good as that first year. My husband gets annoyed that I complain at the end of each show but still want to go to the next.

Big Venues - Pearl Jam at Great Woods (ok - medium venue)

U2 Foxboro - Zoo tour I think

Beastie Boys in 1987 at the Worcester Centrum - I don't know what my parents were thinking letting me go in 9th grade!


Small Venues - Taj Mahal at a club in Boston, I forget the name - I had to get a fake ID to get in. I didn't even care if they didn't let me drink, I just wanted to get in!

Leo Kottke at Harvard - he's my husband's favorite and seeing him live made me love him as well

Emperor Jones at the Hoot Owl - ok, it's my husband's college band, but they still play once in a while and they are great!

Almost forgot, the most unforgettable show - Spinal Tap at Great Woods!

Most epic concert ever was Bad Religion at the Marquee in Tempe AZ last november. Rise Against opened. Holy crap they play with so much intesity. Can never be beat...

1. Springsteen, solo acoustic, Tom Joad tour, Spring '96. Saw 3 shows and they were all just outstanding.

2. Phish, Vegas, Fall 2000, 2nd night. If you're into that sort of thing! hehehe...

3. Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Mike Marshall. 1998ish....

Pearl Jam - 1995 Soldier Field in Chicago. They have a 2 disc set out from that concert. Absolutely the best concert I've been to. Also, if you like Dave Matthews Band you should check out Robert Randolf and the Family Band. They opened for Dave in 2003 at Alpine Valley WI.

Other good concerts - Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Jimmy Buffet, The Urge (My College Days).

the best concert ive seen would probably be U2 Elevation Tour.  But, i wish i would have had a chance to see SUBLIME....that would have been sweet!!!!

Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra headed by Wynton Marseillis, played at the Hummingbird theatre in Toronto Ontario.

Had tickets not sold out in hours, Dave Matthews Band in Toronto would have been a close 2nd.

I second that. I think that would have been my husband's dream concert.

I played at the Chicken Box that summer and people were raving about DMB at the Muse.

ohh I agree with the Les Claypool comments too.  I saw him play with Primus quite a few years ago.  I took my little brother it was his first over age gig (he was 16 and under age) so it was quite an experience for him,  it was cool for me being the big sister too..  Esp when he realised we were standing right next to Matt Stone.
