Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Who ventures outside of COJ? I don't venture outside of COJ. I venture inside COJ. I make use of any forum that interests me. In the past, I've opined heavily on social, cultural and political issues (not to mention a fair bit of nonsense) and my COJ post count reflects that. During this iteration of my BT return, I haven't really been interested in weighing in much on the political threads; they seem too angry for my taste. I enjoy more silliness. I also enjoy writing in my training blog, dropping inspires to my BT buddies, commenting in TriTalk, Race Reports and the Florida Forum. I used to participate in Challenges but haven't in quite awhile. Like any internet forum, there is going to be some degree of sarcasm and nastiness. BT is really different in that the culture promotes HEALTH in mind, body and spirit. I see this reflected in the tone of many posts. It's not just about triathlon, as someone wrote elsewhere. There is a world of difference between data and information. Post count is merely data; it doesn't give any information other than # of posts. I conceal my post count and if someone is curious enough they can sort out the value in the stars, but I think my custom rank demonstrates that I wish not to be taken very seriously. But that's just me. As far as drawing conclusions from others' post counts, I don't make assumptions. I'd rather judge a post on the merits of the post, and not by giving post count any weight. Again, that's just me. BT is a great place. Edited by Renee 2010-03-03 9:22 AM |

Have you felt welcomed outside of COJ? Have you been impolitely "shot down" by an elite member (and by "elite" member I mean that they may not have a high post count) ? Have you felt that you received better information from a person with a high post count or lower post count? Who was more friendly, high post count vs low post count? Come to think about it, the post count really shouldn't matter anyways, it's the individual that responds that should be noted. I feel that I'm treading on thin ice on this, but, something made me start to question things. Thanks to those that respond, and for those of you that don't, I don't blame you for not wanting to. I don't know how to respond. With your post count hidden I don't know if I am responding to a newb or an elite. But I guess it doesn't matter because either way I'm going to respond like an Eh Hole.As long as it's an "Eh Hole" response that doesn't get the thread pulled, then, I would be interested in the response. |

Expert 1149 CenTex | Subject: RE: Who ventures outside of COJ? I find myself in many different forums but I mostly lurk. I'll post anywhere if something interests me of if I feel like I have something to contribute. Most of my posts have been in COJ but I also have a few in TriTalk and the "Fat Guy" forum. If someone flames me for my opinion, so be it. I try to take the high road; I may tell them what I think but I don't post it. (I just talk to the screen, then move on. It never answers.) In general, I have found this site to be friendly. I don't pay much attention to post counts but am impressed by those of you in the multiple 1000's. However you got there, you've been here longer than me and that counts for something. |

Champion 8540 the colony texas | Subject: RE: Who ventures outside of COJ? while there is a lot of "talk" on post count, COJ, etc. the thing I enjoy the most about this whole BT experience is inspires. I think there should be a count for that also I think it's a touch more personal, plus, when racing season starts getting underway I enjoy seeing the people that write in the "who's racing thread" that it is their first race EVER, then going to give them an inspire before the race, then after to see how it went. I still remember when someone did that for me, that seemed to make this site full of lots of people seem a lot smaller and that I was a part of it. so in that regard I venture out of COJ |

I try to weigh on subjects that interest me, or where I have a differing opinion. Have you felt welcomed outside of COJ? Yes I have Have you been impolitely "shot down" by an elite member (and by "elite" member I mean that they may not have a high post count) ? I've had encounters with some ling time experienced members and some others who were fairly new. I didn't pay attention to exact post count but I knew some where relatively high and some were relatively low. I also know who some of the experienced members are and at times have chosen hot to back down when bullied or even ganged up on. But I do like to be sarcastic and stir things up. Plus I am opinionated. Have you felt that you received better information from a person with a high post count or lower post count? Didn't notice Who was more friendly, high post count vs low post count? Don't notice |

I have my opinions about training based on what has and has not worked for me in the past. I have raced something or other Bikes, MTB's, 5k's, trail races, tris, for 15 years. People can get way too caught up in the minutae of training (Forest > trees). My advice is less bio-bo-logical and more philo-fo-sophical. 'dem cats sho' gots some purty shoes! |

(Which is the only reason I found my way here)? On Topiuc, as a new member (lurker for 6 months, member for about 1 month), I can tell you it can be intimidating to post, with a very low post count, I just assume that others might look at my post count, and assume I dont know anything. And with TLAs like COJ and TAN thrown around, it can be even more confusing. ALl of this can put the new user in quite a conundrum, how to start contributing, and be taken seriously as a new contirbuter. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Who ventures outside of COJ? 1stTimeTri - 2010-03-03 10:48 AM Do you venture outside of COJ and post valid information or offer advice? Indeed I do, although "valid" is up for debate. Have you felt welcomed outside of COJ? For the most part, yes. Have you been impolitely "shot down" by an elite member (and by "elite" member I mean that they may not have a high post count) ? Yes I have. Not just shot down, but I'd say impolitely. However, I can count on one hand the number of times that's happened vs. the thousands of non-COJ posts ... also, in each case, the posters had a legitimate point, but ... they were either rude or condescending. Have you felt that you received better information from a person with a high post count or lower post count? Who was more friendly, high post count vs low post count? Come to think about it, the post count really shouldn't matter anyways, it's the individual that responds that should be noted.
