Thanks Guys.  I'm not even gonna think about the cobbles again.

Any of you guys and gals really want to get pumped, the movie "Spirit of the Marathon" is free on Hulu.com  http://www.hulu.com/watch/85354/spirit-of-the-marathon

Somehow I figured out how to plug my Inspiron laptop into my tv and I watched it last night on my big screen.  Very insightful and inspiring movie about the Marathon.

Back in March I ordered it and then realized it was on hulu  It's a great movie nonetheless and will definitely watch it again when the race gets closer!

Question for the group about getting to the race start. Coming from the west (Berks County), which is a better option: train from somewhere on the main line and then subway, or drive and fight parking near the start?

I don't know of a train that will get you there early enough on Sunday.  The regional line out my way leaves the outer reaches at 0630.  The start isn't a far walk from Suburban Station otherwise.  I will probably take the train or cycle down the SRT for packet pickup though.

Same here. I can walk to the local train station, but the trains don't run early enough on weekends, so I have no choice but to drive in and park. Last year I parked in the Franklin Institute garage. A little expensive, but it was an easy walk to the start area.

Good call on the times. I hadn't even checked the SEPTA website. I guess I could have answered my own question! Guess I'll be driving in. Thanks!

Plenty of parking lots and garages within 5-10 walk to the starting line. I have been parking down towards 14th and Vine Street (Chinatown - furthest away, Hannehman Hospital and the GlaxoSmithKline Building behind St. Peter & Paul Cathedral) the past few years.

There is a closer lot right next to the Family Court Building heading towards the Art Museum on your right side (adjacent to the Philadelphia Free Library Building).

I guarantee you there are closer lots (Frankling Institute, Art Museum back parking lot near Waterworks maybe, something on Spring Garden).

Since I'm not running this year, I'll let you in on my parking secret.  If you take the Spring Garden exit of 76 and go to the West side of the river (opposite side of the art museum), there is quite a bit of free street parking.  This is in the area of Drexel and most of the houses are student apartments (I used to live in this area when I went to Drexel), so it looks worse than it is.  The walk to the art museum is about 5 minutes.

Just thought I would check in and see how everyone's training is going. I feel like I've been training pretty smart for this one. Lots of easy base miles, multiple 20-milers, and what is probably an adequate amount of speedwork. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that I might be able to meet my 4 hour goal. How's everybody else doing?

jsnowash - just took a peak at your logs, and they look freaking awesome!  You are gonna have a great day in Philly.  I just ran the Steamtown marathon a week ago, another few days of EZ Runs for me, and then I will build my Long Runs again starting this weekend.

My marathon at Steamtown was a success - I had 12 great weeks of training, peaked at 50-miles twice, with a tune-up 10k and back-to-back 20-milers - but I gotta say: aside from the training, I feel like I timed my Taper just right.  Meaning, I did just enough of a Long Run (for me) the Sunday, one-week out, that allowed my body to keep endurance fitness, and I was only mildly sore for 2-3 days afterward.  I did just enough Aerobic runs that last week to promote Recovery, with some Strides to remind my neuromuscular system how to run fast & smooth; but it was all just the right mix to keep me a little fatigued, let me Recover, keep me sharp, and then somehow the day before the marathon and on Race Morning, I felt like a million bucks.  Truth be told, aside from some very minor personal modifications, I trusted my Program and followed and the Taper that was layed out for me, and it paid off.   In the past I've either under-tapered, or just trained through a race ... it was nice to finally nail it.  It's taken me four years to get it right just once.

But enough about tapering, we still got 5 weeks of Running left!!!

Since this is my first, I have been mostly following the Hal Higdon novice plan.  I just did my 18 mile long run this past weekend, and my 20 is coming up this weekend.  If it goes anything like the 18 it will be a suck-fest but I'll get it done.

Aiming for a modest 4:20 or so.  Mostly just to keep a pace (10min)  in my mind more than a real goal.  I finished the Baltimore Half Marathon on Oct 16 in 1:54:39, but I could definitely tell I couldnt sustain that pace for all that much longer, let alone double the distance.

Starting to get excited about this race, despite my legs telling me they want a divorce from my body...

Violence is NEVER the answer... except when it comes to your legs.  On almost a daily basis I put my legs into sadistically strange yoga poses and painfully push down on my tight hammy's and hip flexors until they yell "MERCY!!"  Then I smash and moosh my leg muscles from ankle to hip with a hard foam roller, with a solid plastic core.  And for added measure, I slowly flex my leg from bent to straight while I foam roll.  Try it, it hurts like all he11!  But works wonders to break down the quads and IT Bands.  Then I run a plastic beaded stick up and own them.  After all this, I take 'em and drown 'em in freezing Ice Water!  I keep them completely submerged till they go completely numb and blue.

The next morning, my legs tell me how much they love me and they plead and beg for the torture to end.  But I know it's not love.  It's fear.  And that's fine with me.

Ya I have your knee at my house.  It came by a few nights ago asking to stay with us for a while until this all blows over...

Too funny! Maybe your legs and mine need to join a "survivors" support group....

Does anyone know the answers to these questions:

Is there a guide that shows where the color corrals start from the Starting Line back?

Is there a deadline to sign up for a Pace Group?  Or can we sign up for one at the Expo?

hmmm... I don't see anything about pacers on the web site this year... Last year they had info on the web indicating you could sign up online ahead of time or at the expo. I wonder if they decided to drop the pacers this year??
