Got a spot in the Olympic - was comped a spot by the RD from another race because the run leg in one of their races was not marked and I ended up running an extra mile.

I'm wondering if the swim is a true .9 miles. The link here on BT has the swim as just over 1400 yards. I know courses can change from year to year, but can anyone that has done this race a few times comment on the length of the swim leg.

Not positive on the distance part. The course follows the outside of the lake. Other than one year where the buoys were moving quite a bit on the tethers, the course is always the same.

Hi folks, co-RD for Cranberry Trifest here.

As this is the official Cranberry thread, I wanted to let you know we have made a change to the bike course of the olympic distance race. A link to a map of the new course is on the "Course Info" page of the Cranberry Trifest section of the Sun Multisport Events website and is also pasted below.

Course changes were made at the request of the Lakeville police. As some of you may have heard, back in June there were issues with Lakeville police stopping some cyclists during the Patriot Half triathlon at the intersection of Rte 79 and Rte 18. Cyclists were stopped due to a significant build up of auto traffic. Getting stopped in the middle of a race was understandably upsetting to cyclists (many of whom, unfortunately, directed their frustrations at the police) and the significant back-up of traffic was upsetting to many of the townspeople (many of whom also directed their frustrations at police). As a result, we agreed to the Lakeville police request to eliminate this intersection from the course and developed the new route.

Trust me when I say we don't take course changes lightly and made every effort to find a workable solution with the police in order to retain the old course, but, in the end, there was no getting around the fact we had to eliminate the Rte 18-Rte 79 intersection. Police support is critical to the success of a triathlon not to mention necessary in order to receive the required approvals of the Lakeville Board of Selectman.

The new course (26.3 miles) is slighltly longer than last year's (24.9 miles), but features many of the same roads used in the past. A new section along Neck Road is beautiful and includes a scenic pass of Snipatuit Pond. We think you'll find the new course every bit as enjoyable as last year's.

We appreciate your ongoing support of Cranberry Trifest and look forward to delivering to you another great multisport experience. Fyi, we'll be emailing all registered racers news of this course change within the next week.

A BTer measured it by GPS one year and it was very close to .9.

I have swam at the pond for last few years and it is about 1320 yards straight across and back and the race has us swim in two different bulges in the pond first one on right when you start which is small but the far end of the pond has large rough circle you swim most of it which adds quite a bit to the 1320 of straight there and back. Check out the map on the race website.

I have a 310xt with new swim mode and will try to swim the course as I know it when I have a chance to check out the distance for curiosity.

The 1400 yds is what someone entered in setting up the race so easily it can have an error.

People are full of crap, eh. Can't wait 60 seconds for some bikes to pass - because that's more time than it takes to order a double cheese, fries and a "diet" drink.

Anyway, the new bike course looks good - should be fun, I am looking forward to it.

Wife and I are also on the list of folks doing this just a week after Timberman for the club points. Im looking to finish, thats my goal.

We did the sprint that was part of Patriot half weekend, so we're familiar with the area.

I was hoping to head down this weekend and practice the bike course - does anyone know where we can park?

You can park here: http://goo.gl/maps/BUm9-- at Ted Williams park/camp. You'll probably see a bunch of traithletes there tomorrow morning. I'll be there too.

Some people from the Providence area will be in the water 8am Saturday. I am going to do the course slowly (15-16mph bike & 10min miles) if anyone is interested. I have red hair and will be wearing the Tri-NE jersey

Not personally familiar with the course though (other than what is on-line).

So since no one wants to come to the South Shore and ride, I will come down to where everyone is going to be.  I have to do 2 laps of the bike if anyone wants to join me.

Just got back from riding the new course.  It's awesome.  There are going to be a lot of PRs come race day.  We did the course twice and I could of gone for 1 more.  Nice job guys.

Rode the new course x 2 today with Boston Beginner... and I agree - the new bike course is awesome, even better than the old one... it's flat, fast and fun. That section around Snipatuit Pond is really nice - with some long sections of perfect roads.

Great to hear, especially after that hilly Marlborough course for my last race.

From what I saw I really liked it - I turned around in Rochester at Neck Road, as the PMC crossed the path. I opted to turn around at that point, rather than get in the way of all the riders. I actually don't know if marshalls would have asked me to get out of the way or not - but I am sure a Peloton of that size wouldn't want me in there way.

Glad to hear you're liking the new course. I agree the stretch that takes you by Snipatuit Pond is really nice. See you all in a few weeks!
