Just smile at me, I mean at him and say: "Hey... how was your race"

Speaking for myself and all the other men like me - ask him something about himself. Then, only after he has answered: Oh by the way my name is....

Having allowed him to talk about his favourite subject he is more likely to remember your name and do so fondly.

Could just be me but most guys I know are lambs to the slaughter when it comes to women. We only chase the ones who catch us first.

Check him to insure he is breathing and has a pulse.
Now you're almost there.

SO TRUE!!!!  He's hot and sweaty...you're hot and sweaty.  What else do you need to have in common??

I've only been out of the meat market for well over 30 years, but some things never change. If I had to start looking today, the first place I'd go would be a triathlon. At least then I could find someone who understands what this lifestyle is all about.

You're a woman, a triathlete, you're hot, you're sweaty, you're hair is a mess, there's no make-up on, you need a shower. Hi! How about a hug???

...The trick is not in figuring out what to say, but gathering the courage to say it...

TriComet - 2005-07-26 10:13 AM How about "Nice bike. Do you like it?"...etc.

Or "Hey, we're both sweaty.  Wanna make out?"

Betcha a dollar it would work.

Regardless of where you are or what kind of event it is, be it a bar, concert, race, bake sale, AA meeting, just about anything will work if the guy thinks you're cute and he'll just be flattered you're talking to him.  I don't know why girls have such trouble with this, but if you have a pulse it's going to work.

Subtle hints like "nice shoes" or "nice bike" don't work, because if the guy is like me (a total loser) he'll think you mean "I like your shoes" or "I like you're bike."

Just go up and start talking.  As if he's ready for the race and introduce yourself.

Wow, some very funny/true suggestions!
I forgot that boys are boys! lol
Toss your hair, bat your eyes, smile, say anthing at all, hand him a beer - and he's in the bag.
Typcial chick - overcomplicating things!
Earth boys are easy!
Maybe I should start another thread asking how to best pick up a tri woman? THATS gotta be a whole different can of worms!

And if all those things don't work, try a big smile. Nothing jazzes my tingle - nothing tingles my tickle - absolutely nothing fancifies my dancing eyes like an electric smile....

...or a camisole wearing, peanut butter-toting athena around 5'10" (if this is you, forget all these lines... just growl)

I would prbably take the conservative approach.  I think "damsel in distress" method works for me.  Like asking a guy to help pump up my tired becuase my valve is a little bent.  I've done that on my group rides before.  If I were a little more daring, I could ask him to help me zip up wet suit.  Or if I were really daring, I would ask him to help me apply my bodyglide   But seriously, I have never tried to pick up a guy at a triathlon because I don't have enough guts to try it.  And if I did approach a guy I would probably just strike up normal conversation- like talk about the race or ask him which races he's done, etc.  Of course he wouldn't get the hint from that, which is probably why I've never picked up a guy at a tri.
