SoccerGK - 2010-12-22 8:13 PM Is there still room?  I'm a bit of a newbie with only one year of training, but I think this seems like a good group for me.  If not, just let me know!  If so, I will post my bio asap!  Thanks!

Welcome!  I would love another fellow Wisconsinite in the group.  There are two of us already. Side note, I used to live in West Bend!

Name et al: Suzy Shain (been part of this group for four Mentor seasons), 47 years old, 4'10" (the group small fry)

Background: Started marathoning at the age of 39, completed around 12 including a couple of Bostons before transitioning completely to triathlon. Started with super sprints around three years ago and finished my first IM this year.  I was water phobic when I joined this group and with the help of Birdy, the MG and a great coach, I am cured

Family Status: Married to Paul aka "the man" and have an 18 week old Cockapoo, Cooper

'10 Races: Too numerous to account for (check my logs), but the highlights Lonestar HIM, High Cliff HIM, Racine 70.3 and IM WI!

'11 Races:  REV3 HIM in KNoxville (many of this group are connecting up there), and pretty much the same line up as last year. IM WI is the "A" race once again.

What makes me a good part of this group: I'm the resident cheerleader. I want everyone to succeed, to stay positive and never give up.  I'm a classic example of how a positive attitude can take you a long way when talent is in short supply!

What else the newbies should know:  A lot of us have been together for a long time, but new people join every season and they are quickly embraced.  Don't be overwhelmed by the amount of posts-visit when you can and never be afraid to ask questions because you feel too stupid (Fatty never lets that stand in his way!)

Hey gang,
Would really like to join this mentor group...  I've been lurking around the site for a couple for months now and this looks like the type of forum I need to really get going.

Bio to follow... the iPhone is a little small for typing all that...
Thanks!

NAME: Anne!/Anne

STORY: I am from Ottawa and have been doing triathlons for 1 year and running (marathons and half marathons) for 5 years.  After quite a few marathons I was getting bored of the monotony of two-three hour long runs.  My training partner roped me into a try-a-tri last May and the rest is history. The longest race I've done so far was the K-town short course.

FAMILY STATUS: I have three children aged 11, 10 and 7.  The kids are all in sports, clubs etc.  My hubby is a runner (marathons and half marathons) so we're a busy bunch.

CURRENT TRAINING: Training to me is key.  Normally I lack consistency in my workouts.  This time round I've hired a coach.  We'll see if the accountability helps.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: This year I did a try-a-tri, a super sprint and K-town short course.  I also ran the Toronto Waterfront Marathon (1h46) and a 5k (22:45).

2011 RACES:

May 15, 2010                Rhoto Florida Half Iron 70.3

June 25, 2010               Emilie’s Run 5k (aim for a PB or if the stars line up sub 20min)

July 10, 2010                Graham Beasley Iron 113

August 7, 2010             K-Town Tri Long course

September 10, 2011      Esprit Full Ironman Triathlon (heaven help me)

November 6, 2011         Road to Hope Marathon, Hamilton (run a BQ)

WEIGHTLOSS: I maintain my weight based strictly on exercise, and lucky genetics.  I am a huge fan of french fries, poutine, salt & vinegar chips, chinese food, chocolate, wine, beer, martinis, scotch....!!!  I seriously need to detox and clean up my diet!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm actually starting to worry about my liver :S  I say that as I sip on a white Russian.... grrr.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD PROTEGé:
I am surrounded by enablers!  My hubby is all to eager for me to skip a workout and hang out at home.  My training partner has the same eating habits as I have.  However, in reality... I'm super hard core.  I just need to flip the switch... if you know what I mean.   I'm uber competitive.  I want to do my first HIM under 6 hours... and I want to run Boston in 2012.  I'm just sayin'

I'm new to this site so it will be interesting to meet others with similar goals.

Anne

Hello everyone, I'm Peter, if there is room i would love to join.  I can do a bio now because i am a minimalist.Smile
Background:  I just got my life back from 6 years of playing World of Warcraft.  I could remember a time when i enjoyed moving (rugby and judo) and so it's time to reinvent myself.  This is my first year training for a Triathlon.  Several months ago i got the strange idea that i would like it and so i commited myself to train.  I am currently aproaching distances for a sprint and then i'll get into some drills?

Goals:  I have 2 sprints in june and july with a full race in august.  I plan to finish them with a smile on my face.

Things that hold me back:  I LOVE FOOD!  I'm about 280lbs and would love to get to 240lbs.

I think that's about it.

Tremont
Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - OPEN

I would like join if still open.   My name is Jeff and I live in Tremont, Illinois.  This is my first year doing tri's let alone any real races.   I completed my first 5k last year.    My wife has been running and into fitness pretty much since we were married 17 years ago but after being told she was diabetic kicked it up to the next level.   I have been her "road crew" for the last 2 years and made a couple comments that if I was going to come to the races I should compete as well.  Initially I never would have imagined doing a triathlon or running more than a 5k.   Now I am signed up with the local Tri team and committed to completing my first tri this June with our town’s annual tri.   I am also registered for the Indy half marathon in May with my wife.   I enjoy training but have a hard time being consistent, especially now that we have snow and temps below freezing.   Based on the posts this looks like it would be a fun group and a group with some credentials and put a little pressure on all to keep up, which is what I need.

Thanks for considering.

if you still have room I would love to join your group.

My name is Bryce Hiigel and live in Lamar, Co elevation about 3,600 feet Southeast corner of the state sorry no mountains here just a lot of false flats.

I am married for 15years and have two boys one 18 and the other 13 six dogs 4 of which are labs used for bird hunting and hunt tests.

I started biking back in May of 2008 when my youngest asks me dad when are you going to have a baby then I turned 40 and tipped the scales at 211lbs so that is when the cycling took off Lost about 50lbs in 2 1/2months.

Our town has been holding a Tri-sprint so I was asked to be on a relay one person swims one bikes and the other runs. I rode but the runner was late so I went a head and ran without being in running shape you know can't let the team down. After that I participated in the last 2 years doing all of the events. Absolutely love it it is the 1st time I was so exhausted upon completing the race but feeling so wired I wanted to run it again.

This year I entered my Half Ironman in March 2011 the Gator Half in Sarasota, Fla. I started a 16week training plan I found in the Aug 2010 Triathlete Magazine.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Man, it's that time again... I guess I'll come out of lurking!

Name and info: Ryan Perovich, 33, future brother-in-law to our fearless mentor Steve (Birdy) Birds. Suzy, Kim and I bring down the average height around here.

Background: I started dating Birdy's wife's sister Jill a few years ago, and when I found out that Jill, Birdy, Birdy's wife Kim, Jill's brother Jeff and his wife Leann all do triathlons... well, that pretty much settled it. I signed up for IM Canada three years ago without having done a triathlon at all; Birdy somehow convinced me it was a good idea and that I'd have a full year to, you know, learn. Now I'm pretty much hooked.

I love the HIM distance! I am a terrible swimmer, a pretty good biker and an acceptable runner. My transitions pale in comparison to Fatty's, however.

I've got two more HIMs on tap for this next year: either Boise or Victoria, and Lake Stevens. I'll probably be travelling up to Canada to cheer on some current MGers, and sign up for next year. I may throw in a random sprint or two here and there. I also love trail running, adventure racing, snowshoeing... basically, being outdoors and active.

While I don't post all that much, I correspond with lots of people on here through email. I will do my best to answer any question! ryan at fpasset dot com

Finaly found some time to post my bio, here it is.

Name: Sylvain

STORY: Had a very active lifestyle, then stopped all when had first child 6 1/2 years ago. For my standard I was in terrible shape and was starting to worry about keeping up with my daughter when she became a teen. I want her to be active also and she will need to learn from somewhere. One day I fell upon an article titled "Train like a triathlete to get in shape fast". I read the article and was hooked. Couple days later I started running in my yard (5 acres), 30 seconds run, 30 sec walk. I started searching for info on triathlon, found BT, sign up. Browsed around and found the couch to 5K program. This was in Aug/07. Not having access to Bike or pool, I stuck to running. Finnished my first Half Marathon in May/08, then first Marathon in September/08. Ran two Marathons in 2009, plus a 30K and 10K running race. In 2010 did one try-a-tri and two sprints.  Bring on year 2 of tri'ing! My first Oly and first HIM!!!

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 9 years, with two children aged 6 and 3.

CURRENT TRAINING: Currently in maintenance mode, doing mostly run and swim. Last two weeks not much, t'is the season, lots of running around (not cardio) and sick family.

2010 RACES: Binbrook Give-it-a-Tri, Toronto Island Sprint, Orilia Sprint

2011 RACES: Below is my wish list.
Ottawa Half Mary - May 29
Guelph Sprint - June 19
Muskoka Long Oly - June 26
Cobourg Oly - Aug 14
Toronto Island Sprint - Aug 28
Muskoka HIM - Sept 11

WEIGHTLOSS: I've lost about 15 lbs since last winter, I expect to lose some more this winter but not a priority.
