Heh...for me, I worked at a Ski Resort during the winter selling overpriced lift tickets to rich little boys and girls.

During the summers, I'd pull midnight shift at the local RPS (like UPS or FexEx).  Unloading trailer trucks (all by hand) for 4 to 8 hours in the summer heat.  Talk about a buff freaking body though.  Damn.  I miss those days.  I held the record for the fastest full trailer unload (45 mins).  God Bless Platex panties!!!!

I had a very dangerous job- scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins. You couldn't help but create your own concoctions, then you had to eat them. Not good for the waistline, but who really cared when you're 15 years old.

I dug ditches and moved heavy stuff for an attorney who was building his own house for $5 an hour. After a few weeks of me busting my a$$ he doubled my pay and introduced me to his next door neighbors daughter. Despite the raise, I never had money again until I left for college....

Okay, am I the only one that thinks JENG and VMR719 are the same people (or at least, twins separated at birth)?

My first job was my best job.  I worked at a sailboat shop.  I learned how to assemble sailboats, how to sail, how to stitch sail cloth, how to repair fiberglass, and how to make a living in flip-flops.  It was a killer job.  Here I was in High School, in 1977, making $20 an hour giving sailing lessons to new sailboat owners.  It was the best!

Our shop was dedicated to Hobie Cats and other small, racing oriented multi-hull sailing craft.  Our largest catamaran was called a Stiletto, it was huge and I actually was able to ski behind it (on two skis).

Definitely not alone on that one!

I started working when I was 13 and washed school buses for a summer. In the fall I picked apples. All the glory of climbing trees was fun for about the first half hour. Then it just sucked! I spent the next two summers working the graveyard shift washing motorcoaches. I learned how to drive a stick though. Lots of glory in those jobs.

First job was as a Caddy at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO. Great job. Had to get there by 4:00 A.M. to get signed up, but could help people get their clubs into the club house from their car, and could make $100/ hour doing that until you went out on the course by about 10 or 11. Needless to say for a 13 year old in the early 80's I made a ton of cash.

That summer, bought a computer, waterbed, drum set, and my first good bike. I guess the computer and bike stuck since I am a programmer who does Tris.... And I'm not a bad golfer either..

I have to admit, as I'm reading your post I'm thinking of the movie Caddy Shack.

Carl Spackler (Bill Murray): So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

My first job, I lied to get. I worked at a riding stable when I was 15 taking kids and families on horseback through a trail system. I got paid cash, 50 cents a rider with the average group being 10-12 riders. When I said I lied, at my "interview" I was asked how often I ride, and of course the answer was "all the time" even though I hadn't been on a horse more than 5 times in my life. Needless to say after 11 hours a day, 7 days a week for a summer, I could ride pretty darn good.

Oh and when you had down time, I unloaded large racks of hay onto a lift that ran up into a huge hay barn, where I would stack the hay for the winter. Got $5 a rack again in cash. Not bad except I am allergic to hay, and you would have to tie bandanas around your ankles to keep snakes and mice from running up your jeans. You only let that happen once let me tell you. TO this day though that might have been the best workout plan I have ever done.

Good Luck,
Jay

1st Job - Cooking at the Royal Montreal Golf Club

2nd Job - Waiter at Chi Chi's

3rd Job (this is where it gets interesting) - Tree planting in the great Canadian North. Paid by the tree. I reckon I've planted well over 110 000 trees in my life.

4th Job - Orderly at the Montreal General Hospital. This was literally the shittiest job I've ever had (can you say "bowel disimpaction"?), but I really enjoyed it and the pay was great for a university student.

Rob.

First job was good ol KFC. I was a cashier and whenever I had to go in the back for anything it was like ice skating because there was so much grease on the floor. I have a hard time eating there any more, mostly because the whenever the cooks would find a cockroach (and there were plenty) they would throw in the fryer with the chicken and see how long it would struggle in the oil before finally dying. Yick!

Spent a summer working in the office of a department store.  They have a store credit card, like the Macy card thing.  Most of my job was to type addresses to send promotion letters/statements to the clients.  For some clients whom had not log activities for a long time and their card expires, I had to call and ask if they'd like to renew and if they were not happy with the service.  Got yelled at many time.  Main reason was that the products are too expensive in the store.  Like it was my decision....

First job ever? I think it must have been trail crew at the local ski resort. You didn't get paid in cash; you just worked clearing brush for 40 or 80 hours (can't remember) in the summer and you got a free ski pass for the winter. I think they got around child labor laws that way . . .

The toughest part of the job was the hike to the place where you were going to be working for the day. It was easier to run back down; but often when you did that, the soles of your hiking boots would be melting.

Awww, good times.

My first summer job was at age16 working in at a dry cleaner.  Talk about hot!  Spent the days finding ways to stay school (water bottle spray fights with the cute cashier-- the one with the hoodlum boyfriend-- were fun) and to avoid being scarred with burns from the pressing machine. The summer was a success as I ended it with no scars, from either the pressing machine or the boyfriend..
