Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jim, I so forgot about those.... They were great, fond mammeries (or is it memories) of staying up late when I was young to catch the series on Cinemax (skinamax). Great cinematography, lighting, stop motion animation...lol Over dubbing could have used some work though. good times, good times. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love foreign movies, but I have to say that one that has always just warmed my heart and made me laugh is Cinema Paridiso. BTW, Waking Ned Divine was so funny I nearly cracked a rib. Dana |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My favourite is naturally enough a romantic comedy: Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulin - the English title I think is just Amelie On the action side a German film called Run Lola Run rocks. From Japan there is a cool SF movie called Returner which rips off every Hollywood SF ever made but still manages to be a good little movie. Also from Japan an Anime called Grave Of The Fireflies has a legitimate claim to being the best animated movie ever made. A movie that is worth the look though culturally a little difficult to understand if you aren't Polish is Zezowate Szczescie (Bad Luck) it was made in 1960 when film makers had to step really carefully around censors. This still manages to be a funny little movie. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do you include Aussie films in this list as foreign? Look for - Two Hands (one of Heath Ledgers better roles before his head ended up his arse) The Night we called it a day -About Frank Sinatra coming to Australia inthe seventies (funny) Has Denis Hopper, Melanie Griffith, Joel Edgerton (he was in Star wars), Portia Derosi (Alley McBeal fame) Bad Boy Bubby - Watch it Only if you wish to challenge everything you thought was good about human beings. Came out early Ninties. Romper Stomper - Great flick Again starring another Aussie actor you may know who now has his head up his arse Russell (or Rusty as he's known here or F@#K Wit as I call him) Crow Getting Square - ex-cons a bit Lock Stock but the Aussie version. A new release to cinemas here is Wolf Creek- Independent film, scare the shit out of you horror. they reviewed it on the radio and people walked out it was that scary. Keep an Eye out for it. Crocodile Dundee- Just kidding Any thing by the WIGGLES Others I recommend- Red Violin (italian), Girl on the Bridge (French, great dialogue, I eventually stopped reading the subtitles because I just knew what was going on between the characters) |

![]() run4yrlif - 2005-10-13 12:19 PM Oh good...no one's mentioned "Run Lola Run." You have to watch the sub-titled version, though. It'll leave you more breathless than a track workout. Oh Jim....knew I liked you for more than your sexy avatars!!! The soundtrack to Run Lola Run is my favorite running on the treadmill music! Great flick, and the Princess too. That actress is just so...so very...so...? what? I just love her. But, ok, am I the only one who thought Amelie was corny? Cute, charming, yes, but...*sigh* just too sweet-y sweet for me. Got so I wanted to pluck those big old dewy doe eyes right out of her oh so darling head! Is this just me? Most recent for me was "Motorcycle Diaries" after which I think I sat silent for about 15 minutes trying to fathom how amazing the film was. Same with "Lost in Translation".This is what movies should be-or at least could be if Hollywood would try to use a brain cell, instead of re-making 70's t.v. and re-making things like ...

Released in the US as "The Triplets of Belleville". Magnificent animation, great music, French obsession with biking and random weirdness. Who could ask for anything more? http://imdb.com/title/tt0286244/ I would add reminders to watch classic foreign cinema, because it's worth it: The greatest crime movie ever made: Rififi a brilliant film, if you're into Truffaut: The 400 Blows The wages of fear, which still makes me freak out. The bicycle thief |

The bicycle thief Belleville Rendezvous...looked for this tonight but no luck. I'll need to go to the local weirdo head shop/video store for anything that avant guarde....it's a small town. Love Truffaut...didn't he do Jules et Jim? Saw that when I was like 17 and it sorta made me grow up. And Aurevois Les Enfants. I loved Wages of Fear...but seems like one of those that people sorta don't get. What about --81/2? (sorry - using someone eleses dial-up and can't check my own spelling...) |

For the record: I liked Amelie...but did not love it. Seems like lots of women love it and I don't quite know why. I prefer my heroines to be along the lines of The Bride than the simpery French girl. Ah, good French heroine: La Femme Nikita!!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mmmmm, I'd have to say Life is Beautiful, Il Postino, loved Waking Ned Devine, and My Life as a Dog, and some french film that I recently saw on HBO in the wee hours of the morning a few weeks ago...it was very charming but I can't remember the title. I love foreign films, but my husband hates them. Luckily we have the IFC channel and the Sundance channel which offers up a good selection every now and then. |

That has got to be the worst two hours of my life being made to sit through that movie. How that movie got cult status I don't know. Actually I do its only guys that seem to like that movie. I totally agree with Cat if you call aussie films foreign then definately check out The Castle (excellent aussie humour) Crackerjack is quite good too. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How about The Nugget? Gallipoli - mel gibsons early work The Sum of Us- Again head up his arse Rusty Crowe Malcolm Oh how about the Delinquints - Kylie Minogue (She is still hot even with a perm) Breaker Morant As for the Bad Boy Bubby, I am yet to see it, but I thought I would gross a few Northerners out with it. Ah, the golden age of aussie cinema. Edited by Downunderman 2005-10-14 12:01 AM |

I remembered my other movie! Well, actually my husband remembered it which just proves how great a movie it was - he NEVER remembers stuff like that! It's a Russian film from 1997 called The Thief. Wonderful movie! Highly recommended - the scene where the boy is going to get spanked with the belt is still burned in my brain. What a little actor! |

![]() Never even heard of this movie...but I'm dying to find out just how sick you Aussies are! Going on the rental list! A nicer Aussie movie: Flirting. Talk about dating oneself. One of Nicloe Kidmans very early movies. Anyone seen a Harvey Kietel movie I think it's called Three Seasons? Takes place in Vietnam. Looks interesting? He also did a strange but worth renting movie that takes place partially in Serbia. Downunderman - 2005-10-14 1:36 AM Thats the idea. Freak out the yanks to what we are "really" like |
