I am a little overwhelmed about being able to keep up with all the info but I would like to join if you'll have me. The only requirement for acceptance is posting race reports in a timely fashion. Signed "the bodyguard". ...mmm...that could be a problem |

oh how nice. another canadian. well, let me be the first to say..... canada sucks. now. in order for you to join this group you'll need to mozy on over to calgary. knock on trevors door (when you get to the city just start asking people where the hot chick is. they only have two so it should be pretty easy, one is his wife michelle and the other is drag queen) when he opens the door try not to laugh. just go show him where is bike is, where the pool is and where his running shoes are. thanks! oh you're goal of IM in 2014.. LOL!!! stick around here and we'll have you all signed up and ready to go next year. welcome to the mg!!!! and canada doesn't really suck. just trevor. rob is cool, he's been around a while. Check him out in this pic, he's the elder chap just to the left of the dog. Its the day the first party of Doukhobors to arrive in Canada. A day's journey from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, their initial place of settlement, Spring 1899.
edit... uh-oh. you don't log your stuff, the minnow is gonna have a field day with you.

Regular 459 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN I know who you are now Trevor! Actually, I think I may have seen you running on the paths (sort of near Edworthy) a month or so ago wearing TTL colours. I wasn't sure though. Was that your last run? Next swim session starts Jan 9... Just for the record, I'm not actually a Calgarian. Moved out of the city a couple years ago to Cochrane (although nobody will know where it actually is; really only about 20 minutes from Calgary.) Much nicer here, closer to the mountains and great bike/run training. Us Canadians are infiltrating... Yes, logging workouts. My big weakness. I'll start. One reason to join a mentor group. Ironman next year? Not going to happen. I need to do a half first. IM 2013? We'll see. I'm trying to stay strong. 2014 is the ideal year because my youngest starts Kindergarten. I'm a stay at home mom, so that gives me a good chunk of training time without impacting my family too much. I'll work on the bio next... |

Veteran 336 Yorktown, VA & Langley AFB | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN WOW! Guess I didn't post a bio last round... took me a while to find the one before that... Name: Brent Mathews Racing History: Other Hobbies: This is what has killed any tri races in the past... Tournament archery has consumed my free time for the last 6 years. I shoot 3D style tournaments on a sponsered amatuer level. Last year I was also an assistant director for the Texas Archery Shooters Assoc. Very time consuming... But I enjoyed every second Story: Spring 2010 -- So I started running 5Ks with my wife for some charity events we were invovled in, then we joined a local running club, ran even more races/events and started running with the group on training runs. One of my co-workers was into cycling and talked me into getting a bike and we rode together some. I really took to the bike, enjoyed it and still feel the bike is my strength. Later that year he did a HIM in Houston, TX... I was so intrigued by his story when he got back that I thought "I can do that"... Weight loss and gain: Admittedly, body weight is one reason why I'm here to begin with... I really like to eat. I workout so I can eat! I watch what I eat a little but not nearly as well as I should... maybe I'll add that to the 2012 goals list.
This will be my third go round with this MG... everyone here is great and always there when I need a sounding board or that perverbial "kick in the pants". Looking forward to another awesome session!

Regular 459 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN Name: _Deb_ aka Deb. I wasn't too creative with my username. Story: At the beginning of 2010, I made a decision to kick obesity and get healthy. At first, weight loss was my focus, but by May of that year, I knew I needed something more. I made a goal to do a triathlon (any triathlon) the following year. I didn't know how to swim, and was actually afraid of deep water. I also had never run. I started the C25K, signed up for swimming lessons, and rode my bike more. Before long, I realized this wasn't just a bucket list thing for me. It quickly became a lifestyle and a passion. By the time the next season rolled around, I was more then ready for the sprint triathlon that had been my initial goal. I had signed up for an Oly that year with long term plans to go all the way. Family Status: Married for 6 years to Beejay, incredibly supportive husband. 2 ankle biters: 4 year old Sebastian, and 3 year old Hazel. Current training: Currently between training plans and being a bit too lazy. I still swim 3 times a week (new enough swimmer that I really need to), and run 3 or so times. I've been neglecting my bike and trainer in a major way though. 2011 Races: I did 3 sprints and an Oly (Banff, which was my "a" race). Loved it! I also did a couple half marys and some 5 and 10k races. 2012 Races: The only one that's a definite is Calgary 70.3, which is my "a" race for the year. I'll almost certainly do at least one sprint and one Oly as well. Just trying to decide for sure which ones. Weight loss: I've lost 50 pounds, but I would still really benefit from losing more. 20 more would put me solidly into the "healthy" category. Plus, then I could run faster... What will make me a good part of the group: I have a sense of humour. I'm a social media addict, so I'll be here lots, and I'll even remember to log if I know there's people likely to look. Master 2501 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN Welcome, Deb!! I, too, am a SAHM (will post a bio later), so I totally get the 2014 timeframe for IM training. In fact, did the same thing... not when my two both started school, but rather once they were sort-of humming along and I felt like I could arrange my schedule to do most of my training when they were in school. I did IM Coeur d'Alene in 2010 and 2011, and now the kids are at different schools and schedule is wack again and I don't have the IM fire right now anyway, so no more for me for now. Anyway, when the time comes I'm happy to share about how it worked out for me to train during school hours. Some days it was brutal (drop the kids at the bus and leave from there on my bike, roll in from my T-run as the bus dropped them off in the afternoon = no recovery time before being "on the job" again!), but I made it work with what I think was a minimal impact upon my family. I was never able to log all of the training I would have liked to in a perfect world, but I am a Family First person, so it worked out well enough for me. Trevor, do you want me to beat up all these people who are yelling at you to ride your bike? And swim? Cuz I'm right there with ya, pal. (Although I do have that yellow to give me some street cred...) |
