KQ is not meeting a time, but a placement. Even if you train 40 hours and make a time that would have been 1st last year, maybe 5 other people in your AG trained just as hard this time and took the spots.

And?? If you want to talk "maybe", well then maybe on you next race your time will be 1st again...Or maybe you're the one who takes the spot from the other 5 people that trained just as hard as you. I could you as many "maybes" as you'd like...But I certainly will not concede that it is impossible for someone to ever qualify for Kona based on "maybe".

How to not be a newbie,

1,  Throw out the plan.

2, Sign up for an Iron Man.

3, Train for the Iron Man.  During this time you are a newbie and not a triathlete.

4, Compete in the Iron Man.

    - If you finish on the podium, your an Iron Man and a Triathlete, sign up for Kona.

    - If you finish under the cutoff, your an Iron Man and a Triathlete.

    - If you don't finish under the cutoff, go home defeated, and either start over with step 2, or find a new sport.

Either way you will no longer be a newbie.

Just looking for some clarification.  Are you saying you must do an Ironman length event to be no longer considered a newbie?

Or a triathlete apparently.

Of course you do!  Well no, you don't but you could! If you want?  Or maybe just a sprint... yea that's good too but you might still be a newbie...  How about 2 sprints and an Olympic?  That might work?

Hey back off!  It makes just as much sense as the original post!

What was I talking about again?

This thread makes my head hurt.

I think if this thread works hard enough, it can be the best BT thread ever.

do NOT let me down...

You're no longer a newbie when you know it's NOT OKAY to poop on the bike.

That's the only way this thread could become the best ever.

Well that's my point. A KQ is always a maybe. So is winning the World Series. Just because a team works hard and trains and has good coaching doesn't mean they'll win.

I'm not really arguing the spirit of your original response, as far as saying people can do more than they once thought and put in the time to achieve it. Sure. But if winning a spot was only a case of who wants it more, or puts in the time, what a simple formula it would be.

I'd love to be an example in about 5 years of the last person you would have looked at and said "he'll KQ some day." I hope it is possible. But to say anyone can KQ with the right amount of work may be unreasonable.

Very true.  There is also not a USAT rule that prohibits newbies from regestering.  So poop away...newbie.

But what if you CAN'T KQ, does that mean I can't KQ?  And if not, then it stands to reason that I COULD KQ, in which case you still might not be able to.  So just because I CAN KQ doesn't mean YOU can. And if I can and you can't, isn't that an idictment of the entire system?

On second thought...my post has a major flaw.

I say that you're not a newbie when you don't poop your pants.  Gator Deb says she will no longer call herself a newbie when she KQ's.

But the IMFL poop guy proved that you can poop your pants and still KQ.  So is he a newbie or not?

Hmmmm...

Thats a very good point...

Well lets take a look at the general population here.  Who are the people who most often poop their pants?  Infants right? So often in fact that they wear diapers to contain it.  And they would being less than a year old most definitely be called "Newbies".

But wait!

What about the seniors you ask?

Good point, that's the other large demographic that poops their pants so often as to wear diapers, and they are by no means "Newbies"  They have been around through many many years of life.

So by this I can conclude that you shouldn't poop while doing flip turns, it could get messy.
