You know how I'd feel, and it doesn't have to be a repeated thing either.  I think I've shown in the past that I can be incredibly defensive about her (and anybody else I consider a friend).  Figuring out whether or not you're really offended based on one post is just hard.  You're easily as sarcastic as I am, so what you say is not always what you mean.    It's sorta easy to pick out now that you've repeated it and made a point to say that you're offended.

I don't know why I'm typing all this.  You know where I'm coming from.

Jim - your an @sshole.  Hey, you said to call you that. 

Janelle- instead of typing all of that why don't you just walk over and whack Jim in the back of the head.  A short 2x4 kept next to your desk will come in handy for this.  Actually, keep it next to his desk so that you don't have to carry it back and forth.

Haley and other BT people (guys and gals).  As much as Jim or myself or others state that we will help you in situations where you might feel offended/awkward/nervous we are but meager pipsqueaks with no real power in the universe that is BT.  PM MarmaIamthehammerandmasteroftheBTuniverseDaddy and he will address your concerns.  I've seen him in action.  It's impressive.

Unfortunately, Haley, as one of the more popular and frequent posters on CoJ you are unintentionally putting yourself out there to be the target of jokes, comments, etc.  I'm certainly not defending it, just sayin' that some people will take advantage of it at times, trying to be funny or make jokes at your expense.  I don't think anybody holds any ill will against you personally, at least I hope not.

The fact is that there are some "cliques" here, and human nature sometimes pressures people to do or say outrageus things to get noticed and be accepted.  Kinda reminds me of being out on the playground back in the sixth grade at times.

IMHO CoJ does a reasonable job of policing itself.  If someone gets too far out of line then others tend to reel them back in.  In the end I think it all comes down to mutual respect for others.  If someone says "enough", then that's it as far as I'm concerned.

If anything, I put myself on the opposite side and know that I can come across as a bit of a curmudgeon at times.  It a function of my age (old), life experiences (lots), and core beliefs.  I've called people out at times when I thought they have crossed the line of civility or outrageousness .  I don't expect everyone to always agree with me, but's that's okay.  

Discretion is always the better part of valor, sometimes the best (and classiest) thing is to just walk away.

Just as an aside, I am used to all the wise cracks about my "aberration" and am not offended by anything I read or don't read on the matter.

I have been offended by some posts by COJ newbies, people that I haven't interacted with before and wondered where they were coming from.

I like the advice to post in Tri Talk, post sporadically, it helps others get to know them as well. Naturally develop a posting 'relationship' with people.
