yeah sorry.... And at my gym they have a big childcare center and in the aerobics pool they have family days on the weekends and moms bring the kids in the locker rooms to go to the bathroom and those poor boys! All of the good looking women have clothes on in the locker room.... They see ones that they are scarred for life!

All right, already, I'll bring a towel tomorrow!

Drip drying was always more liberating.

And why is that guy always 40 pounds overweight, older than 60, and has no clue as to what the term "manscaping" means.

I wonder if age has a lot to do with it.  I mean the culture of different generations.  Look at locker rooms built over 40 years ago, they usually have communal showers instead of stalls.  I'm not a veteran, but everything I hear about military living aims you in that same direction with communal living low on privacy.

They put up signs at my place to put a towel down before you sit on a bench naked.

The nudity doesn't bother me, unless they are obviously naked for WAY too long. Then how about moving along and getting dressed, old-timer. kthxbye!

What does bother me are the heavy breathers. The ones that have to sigh and moan SO loudly each time they make a movement while dressing. It's like they are a powerlifter grunting under 500 pounds of iron, but instead they are just changing socks.

... and then sits butt-naked on the bench in front of the lockers, clipping his toe nails.  Yeah, he works out at the local LA Fitness.  Yell

Tom - based on some of the responses here, maybe you should do a BT survey on gym locker room etiquette.

Hmm ... in Europe nudity isn't such a big deal. Is there some need in the US to cover up the fact that most men look alike when naked?

Many people do feel that need, and it's not just men. Seems silly to me. Don't want to see naked people? Don't go into a locker room.

The one thing that really irks me is when they have no regard for the fact they are naked as they walk around, bend over, scoot by, etc.  They also seem to be the ones that take the longest to get ready.  I swear I come in for a swim, get my workout in, come back and guy is still standing there naked.

Claw's post hit the nail on the head.  I have endless stories of encounters in the locker room.  A guy trimming toe nails then leaving the toe cheese either on the counter, in the sink or on the floor.

People sitting naked on the furniture.

People naked in Sauna or Hot Tub despite the three signs that say no nudity.

A guy putting a leg up on counter to put lotion on his crotch.

I've confronted some like a guy sitting on the counter next to the sink naked just to talk.  The guying trimming nails. I even had a guy start putting his clothes in my locker while I was getting dressed. His excuse was that he always uses that particular locker.

I finally started using the family locker room (individual rooms).  They are empty at 5am so no problems.

Note: The Y did ban one guy who would just randomly walk up to others in the locker room and try to hug them.

And there could be 100's of empty lockers and no one else in the room and he just happens to be the locker right next to mine.  Always!!!  At least scoot down a little when you prop your leg up on the bench to dry off.  Laughing

I have found at least at our pool these guys are usually older males - older than say 55 and up (not that mid fifties is "old" by any stretch)  I think it's a generational thing. I don't like it either.  I'm the guy putting on undies in the shower stall before coming out (we have closed showers) or wrapping a towel and slipping them on that way. I go out of the way to not be exposed! Some of these older guys go out of their way to prance around totally naked.

I just posted about age being a factor/generational thing before reading your post and I agree 100%!

ChrisM - 2012-09-06 12:44 PM It's a frickin locker room, not grandma's dining room.  People wanna walk around nekkid in a locker room makes no never mind to me.  The ball blow drying move, on the other hand.....

I don't think the "issue" is with the brief modest nudity in your own space while changing. It's the often over exposure in your face full on front turning, walking around like you're in own bathroom at home alone, leg propped, junk hanging and wagging/sagging that is the problem. Nobody expects to be free from all nudity.  It's all time/place/degree/amount/length of time and proximity to my personal space i think is what we're discussing.

Most in this country choose not to be naked in certain venues. And it may not be Progresive(which is sometimes confused with successful), but thats ok too. In the locker room at my local pool, theres this little man whos in his late 80s who walks around naked often. No manscaping ok, but I just wish he would deflate his pump. To each hisown....

Yea, I know the guy too who comes in and uses the Gym bathroom as his personal bathroom. Camps out dropping a duece in the main stall area, stinking up the joint, incoherent babble about all topics of which he knows little about (politics, sports, weather etc) both before and after a swim, teeth brushing, face shaving, everything- i mean, is it that hard to do all that junk at home?  Sometimes, this is also the guy that once in the pool, finds himself in the fast lane doing his water aerobics float set etc. coincidentally in the same lane with all the hot/young female swimmers that he chats up and offers swim tips.

I often say that I got into this lifestyle for many reasons, one of which is that when I get to be retired, I don't want to sit at the local grease-pit "restaurant" every morning complaining with all the other old guys who can clearly run the country/state/county/township better than everyone actually doing it. I can not live with that constant negativity, and I know far too many old men like this. They are my church members.

Now I have a new image of what I can turn into in retirement. So thanks for that.
