I meant to say, "why'd you start drinking them again." I forgot that important word! Ok, I was basing my numbers off the gas station or vending machine plastic bottles.

I stand by my argument that it's chemical poison, and no one should be drinking it. But, if you're cool with that, it doesn't bother me....unless you're one of my patients and become a huge jerk because you are having withdrawals. Yep, that's happened.

The reality is I've been drinking this stuff for 30+ years now. How bad can it be? Don't answer that.

One of my friends in high school developed a stomach ulcer directly related to excessively drinking Diet Mountain Dew. No joke.

Actually ulcers are caused mostly by Heliobacter pylori bacterium and a bit by intake of aspirin. Soda might cause ulcer-like symptoms, but your friend prolly did not have a Mountain Dew induced ulcer.

ahh ok, that makes more sense.
I went back to drinking them because I was sick of drinking so much water. I still drink a TON of water, and the diet sodas are just a break from that I guess. But I also drink coffee, tea, and BEER. I'm a thirsty dude. Most likely related to my blood sugar levels.

I don't think I'll become a huge jerk though. At least, not any bigger of a jerk than I already am. Nothing can be worse than running next to me at mile 80!

Try LaCroix. It's in a can, it's carbonated, and it has a slight fruity flavor. No salt, no sugar,  no artificial sweeteners... no nothing. It is good to crack open a can of something (to give you the psychological feeling of a soft drink) but really what you're doing is drinking carbonated water and it's good for you.

LA CROIX!!

I drink lots of tea.  Hot tea in the morning, ice tea in the afternoon.  Granted I don't sweeten my tea so I'm not using real or fake sugar.

If it's not tea, it's plain soda water from a SodaStream.  I've tried carbonating tea with not much success, still need to work out the kinks on that.

On the go, a diet soda (Dr.Pepper, usually) is good for a boost of caffeine.

I believe in Crystal Light.....because I believe in me
(you 80's kids will now have that stuck in your head!)

There are some great ideas on the Beverage PSA thread.

They'd get you terminated at work, however, so proceed with caution......

Of course I have nothing viable to add to this thread.....as if I have something viable for any thread.

I've kicked the Diet Coke habit at home with a Soda Stream. They sell flavors, but I find that I really just like plain old carbonated water.

I will still get a can at work if I'm really dragging and I can't bring myself to down another water or cup of coffee, though.

Soda stream to carbonate the water and a box of True Lime packets is a great combination.

That sounds disgusting..

I love the pics of the people on their website.. specially the chick eating the grape. I think it's only a drink for the most beautiful of natural people... (j/k, I'm sure it tastes great to those who like lightly flavored fizzy water)

Unsweetened ice tea is my go to. We went pretty organic and real food in our household and I felt like a junkie addict sneaking coke zeros around in the garage fridge. Thankfully, herein Kansas City we have these wonderful and magical places called Quick Trip. Have an entire iced tea bar inside. Love that place.

My husband is also a Diet Mountain Dew addict. He has recently quit but replaced it with sweet tea - not a great choice either. He tried coffee but hates it. A friend of mine sells a product line called Genesis Pure and she has been after us to try something so we bought the energy drink for him. It's made with wheat grass, supposed to be all natural good for you stuff. I tried some the other day. It does not taste very good but I did have more energy and I was fuzzy headed tired before drinking it.

Kate, have you tried herbal tea?  Not decaf, but herbal.  By definition it actually contains no tea.  Just various herbs, bits of fruit, etc.

Coffee until 1pm, water until workout for the day is over, beer until bed......wake, repeat.

Energize, hydrate, recover.

The crux of rehab was so simple: “Eat and exercise like your life depended on it.” It seemed to take all the guesswork out of the picture and make things that much easier for me.
