I believe it's short for Criterium style road race (bike), but the bike guys can clarify. ETA- I believe Comet (Haley) has the copyright on "Jockstrap". She get's credit for it when it ends up in Websters.

They manufacture JAMMERS (spandex swim shorts), variations of full body suits, and of course, the briefs. 2) A somewhat derrogatory term to describe all tight underwear-like brief swimsuits. "he is wearing a speedo" usually refers to #2, while "I bought a speedo fastskin" refers to #1 |

I wasn't sure if anyone else actually used it. I worked for a classic Fred once, Mike Copeland, CEO of Corel. He had matching $6000 his and hers Litespeed bikes that he and his wife rode twice a year in full regalia. Anyone know the origin of the term? -Niall |

Chainsuck: what happens when your cranking up a hill in Xterra and your chain meets your bottom bracket and chainstay causing you to do a superman. Taco: a bent wheel that looks like the #2 combo from Taco Bell. Snakebite: two itty bitty holes in a tube because the rider was an idiot for underinflating their tire and/or using a screwdriver to set the tire bead. Red Pill: Another name for coca cola. Wrench: The nickname of the shop monkey at your LBS Rubber Melt Special: This is what happens when you put your bike on a trunk carrier and the wheel right behind the exhaust. Just Riding/Running/Swimming Along: The usual excuse for when you broke someting doing something that you shouldn't have been doing. |

The wise will have the ring tatooed on their calf. fred 1) n. a person who spends a lot of money on his bike and clothing, but still can't ride. "What a fred -- too much Lycra and titanium and not enough skill." Synonym for poser. Occasionally called a "barney". 2) n. a person who has a mishmash of old gear, does't care at all about technology or fashion, didn't race or follow racing, etc. Often identified by chainring marks on white calf socks. Used by "serious" roadies to disparage utility cyclists and touring riders, especially after these totally unfashionable "freds" drop the "serious" roadies on hills because the "serious" guys were really posers. This term is from road touring and, according to popular myth, "Fred" was a well-known grumpy old touring rider, who really was named Fred. |
