I like the sweet spot because I can get a solid chunk of work in in an hour but I'm never trashed so I can still get through my other workouts/work all day. |

Expert 1342 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Looking forward to 2nd year of IMRaleigh 70.3. Have not swam since about August...gonna need to work on that soon By the way, I've kept a log of water temps at Jordan lake for the past few years, and we're tracking a few degrees below 2013 and 2012 at present with this wacky winter we've had. i would like vindication on my poor decision NOT to take my wetsuit with me race morning last year, leaving it in my trunk at T2 The run course will be a nice change. The first part is the same up to Gorman Street, where you turn around and head back downtown, turning around at Davie Street (within sight of the finish ). Then hammer it back out Hillsborough for round 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the bike course, and hope to again. Reminder that the 2nd half is a wee bit harder than the first in terms of climb. Also, roads will be in a bit worse shape this year due to our fairly harsh winter. Still should be a great event! Fayetteville Street was rocking pretty hard last year. fgump, last year I left my wetsuit in Virginia. While it made logistics more simple, it did leave me in a lurch when they made the announcement on race morning that it was wetsuit legal. That chart is pretty awesome. I look forward to updates -- but regardless, I'll bring my wetsuit this year! |

Elite 3060 N Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Define "walking distance"....... IMHO, the only 2 hotels within walking distance to T2 (where the buses pick you up to take you to T1) are the Marriott and the Sheraton. These are not cheap options by any means, and from what I hear, they are both sold out at this point. |

36 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Everyone (well almost) will park at T2/Downtown. Plenty of parking near T2/Finish Line. There is very limited parking at a remote lot about 5 miles from T1. Busses will transport athletes from both T2 and the remote lot to T1. Absolutely no parking at T1/Swim start. The road will be closed 1.4 miles from the venue and only staff and busses will get in. Thanks. Brian Myrick |

Regular 165 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Going to Raleigh this weekend for a wedding. Will be up there Friday to Sunday. Im supposed to do a big brick on Saturday but didn't want to lug the trainer (boring). Anyone riding the 70.3 course this weekend or know of a good 50-60mile course that is cyclist friendly? Is the 70.3 course cyclist friendly? I hate riding unknown territory by myself without knowing something about the road traffic etc. Thanks. |

Regular 165 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread So I rode the part of the course on Saturday. Drove to the swim start / T1 at vista point (great area). It was breezy and a little choppy but nothing major and I didn't swim. Left from there and rode first 30 miles of course then turned around and came back. It was a nice course that traversed the lake, had some rollers, rolled through some pine forests and overall felt very much like augusta course. There were a ton of cyclists out. No major climbing, several 3% grades of rollers. Lots of time in the aerobars. Had to create a detour on a portion of pea ridge when it crosses over hwy 1, there was a crew completely repaving the bridge. I backtracked and took elam church rd instead and I found out why they are redoing it. That bridge over hwy 1 looked like it had taken artillery damage from afar. Overall a great route, and I can only hope the weather was similar (not holding my breath...probably 15 degrees hotter race day). |

Expert 1342 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Good news on the road conditions...Sunset Lake Road is being repaved. This was a pretty rough section last year, and my wife reported last night that it is being repaved around Holly Springs. That is a good thing. Also, I just read another post that the bridge over US1 on Pea Ridge is being repaved. I'm hoping they'll extend that new asphalt on down towards Moncure... |

Extreme Veteran 1942 In front of computer when typing this. | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh : Official Thread Yeah, another month of training seems right (I mean, another month AFTER the coming month!). I am happy-ish with swimming, OK on the run (for me) but feel vastly underprepared for the ride. I love the wetsuit discussions...for those of us who did this race last year it is kinda comical to even try to predict it given that the water mysteriously dropped like 4 degrees on race day morning! :-) Prepare for everything :-) |

I can confirm NEW PAVEMENT on Sunset Lake AND Pea Ridge from the bridge over 4-lane US1 down to Moncure (Old US1). It will be smooth sailing!! |

Yep, this is a lesson learned from last year! The RD said at the Athete's Meeting that the, "only way the race would be wetsuit legal would be if a truck full of ice fell in the lake." Well, I guess it happened since they found it to be wetsuit legal that morning. |

Please don't misquote me. I never said that, nor did I speak at any of the athlete briefings... The announcer might have made that comment, but I did not. |
