Training hasn't been as consistent as I would like up to this point but I've been doing enough to be ready for a solid 12-14 week specific preparation block of training come August so it's all good.  Definitely need to get a little more focused but I'm not going to let training completely rule my life either.

Cranking out the miles/yards over here.

First week was about 12 hours, the next two have been closer to 15 for each week.  I'm ramping up the long runs and rides gradually.  This week I'll have a 70 miler with a 4 mile brick (typically been doing 4 mile bricks after the long rides).  Since I'm doing the TDF challenge and signed up for 21 stages I've been on the trainer doing easy recovery spins a lot which has helped the volume and worked the crap out of the legs as well from the harder workouts.

I'm not all that happy with my running though.  At the end of the month I'll be in the 130 mile range (assuming I get all my mileage in that is on the schedule), but my long runs have not been that long. nor have they been quality ones.  Has a lot to do with the fact I'm back to backing them with the long ride the day before.

But good news is I'm acclimating well to the ramped up training and recovering okay.  I'm doing the Aquavelo at Chesapeakeman (as Joel is) with the sole intent of seeing what it is going to take out of me to try and break 5 hours on the ride after whatever swim I can put on the board.  This will give me a realistic measure to see if I have any remote shot at a Kona slot and will help define what my race strategy will be come IM day.

Hey Rick-

You interested in a 45min run off the bike at Chesapeakeman?

Starting to ramp up here too. I have a 4hr ride/30 min run this Saturday. On Sunday's I do a short, high cadence ride before my long run of 1.5 hrs right now. I am following the beIronfit "Competitive" plan. Anyone else using it? It has been good so far.

See you guys soon.

Hey Rick-

You interested in a 45min run off the bike at Chesapeakeman?

That was what I was thinking about as well, albeit at a leisurely pace.  My concern is that since the bike to run transition is in a different place than the swim to bike, will we be able to have our running stuff there?

I think I'm flying solo at the event because my wife has a convention/trade show that we usually go to that weekend (Expo East food/organic tradeshow) so she is going to more than likely stay home for that while I race.  So I'll have no "race support" to bring the stuff over to the High School.  But I'd definitely be up for it!

I know that LaurenSU02 is thinking about doing the aquavelo as well, but that is not a definite, and not sure whether she'd be up for the run afterwards.

5 hour brick tomorrow (had a great 4.5 last sat-hope to repeat)...then an hour easy spin/ 1:30 run on sunday.  I'm loving the long bricks, which gives me hope for the 112 bike..not loving the runs, which makes me very afraid   I can only hope it's not 88 degrees and sunny, "real feel" of 100 and 67% humidity at 11am like it was today,  on Nov. 3 in PCB!!

88 degrees would be a relief.  It's been mid-90s here for the past couple weeks.  I'm getting out on the bike around 6am tomorrow so I can finish my 4.5hr ride while it's still only 90.

Yeah...hit 100 here but I was off the bike by 10:30 and it was only 91.  I still had to run 40min and that was brutal.  Looking at the same tomorrow 95-98..only riding 3hrs though and no run.

who's up for sharing their goals?  I feel I need to for a little extra motivation these last few months.

< 11hrs (70min swim; 5.5hr bike; 4hr run.  15min transitions)

...hope everyone's season is shaping up nicely

Goals are great but setting specific time standards for yourself can be dangerous.  Say you miss your mark on the swim and that gets in your head for the rest of the day.  Then at the end of the day you find out that everyone had a below average swim and it was something to do with the conditions or the course happened to be a little long.  I've got some times in my head that I think I should be able to hit but my goal is simply to plan end execute a perfect race.  If I nail my pacing and nutrition then the finishing time is what it is.

Exactly.

But being a numbers person, I have some in my head that are ranges of what I would like to do, some where I would need to be to accomplish something, and ones for finishing as "comfortably" as I can.

First IM, so any finish with my head up and enjoying the experience will be good for me!

I've definitely got some numbers but they are more what I should be able to do rather than goals I'm shooting for.

I'm coming off a recovery week that ended with a 100 mile ride in the Blue Ridge Mtns. of Virginia called the Blue Ridge Extreme.  6 hours in the saddle and about 12,000ft of climbing.  Now I'm trying to recover so I can get some quality out of this first week of a build period.

The long stuff is actually pretty fun so far. And, it looks like I may be on course to actually hit my targeted "longest workouts" in each discipline prior to beginning a taper. I'm excited to see how the body responds on race day after actually training for and tapering for the distance.

Will there be a BT tent set up at the expo or a gathering sometime during race week?

My mileage is definitely building! I am going into the unknown of training now!

Happy training everyone!!  64 days 18 hours left....Surprised

Thanks, I was just thinking about looking for something like this

and dang, with 48 folks we could practically have our own division with a KONA slot

Seems like July and August have been a series of training derailments.  Looking forward to being healthy and getting some good miles in.
