I have never understood how/why Jeep can't make the Wrangle more fuel efficient. It isn't a machine of an SUV. It is a simple vehicle.

with no aerodynamics, and most have tall gears that aren't exactly highway friendly.

Opus - 2007-05-18 11:40 AM Frikken hippy! Do your part for the economy and consume gas! The oil company needs your money! Global warming is bull! What is $250 per month to preserve your way of life?

Good point. If you give up the Jeep, you're letting the terrorist win

You pay $300 a month to park in Omaha???

I thought the same exact thing! How is that possible? Did you add an extra zero?

Exactly.  Ever drive a 4x8 sheet of plywood down the highway?

I hear you on the fuel cost but I just can't see myself folding into a small car.  I need/really like the room when I am driving.

My 6'5" 300+ lb buddy LOVES his Mini Cooper. Tons of legroom and headroom in that little package. Just sayin'.

In my Honda CRX I could put the seat back so far I couldn't reach the pedals.  Look, I'm not here to try to sell the Civic to anyone else, but I went to the dealership to look at the Fit.  It's a cool little car but looks like a mini-car.  The Fit looks like my old concept of what the Civic looks like.  When they pulled up the Civic I was shocked to see that it looks like a real car.  Not a big car, nothing fancy, but it IS a car.  Not a go kart.

And as far as moving closer - I'd love to!  More time for training!  My house within 20 miles of where I work would cost over $700k.  Cheaper to live in the distant burbs and drive the Civic.

Awww I feel for ya. I sold my Wrangler a few years ago when I had to drive more than a half mile to work. This is the time of year when I miss it the most... topless... not blazing hot yet... [sigh] I miss my Wrangler.

Oh NO!  I'm so sorry.  Well, for an 80 mile a day commute, it was a silly choice anyway  but I can totally understand why you did it, because they ROCK!  I desperately wanted one when I commuted the exact same distance, but I had to get a stupid Hyundai instead.  Good LORD.  Then we moved!  I have never loved a vehicle the way I love my Wrangler.  But I drive 4 miles one way, soon to be 2.5 miles one way, so I can get away with it.  I am very sorry you won't be in the club any more!   The first few times someone waved at me when going past, I was like "do I know them"?, but then I realized...."oh, it's a Jeep thing...cool".

You have my condolences on your loss.

Maybe someday you can get an inexpensive used one, just for fun driving, and if you come visit those relatives of yours in Cedar Rapids (that was you, wasn't it?), I'll show you where you can pick up a very nice one for an extremely reasonable price!

Weve been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Well, it was back in blind river in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Maybe the beach boys have got you now
With those waves singing caroline no
Rollin down that empty ocean road
Gettin to the surf on time.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Bye Bye Wrangler.  I only met you once yet the sadness I feel is large.

I'd trade you for my 2002 Civic with 122,000 miles if, 1) it wasn't already paid off.  2)  I didn't just mention this theard and thought to the wife and got the evil eye.

Used to have a 1994 S-10 Blazer, 4-dr, 4x4, and the only thing I don't miss about it is the gas mileage.  Otherwise I really liked that vehicle.

Well, here it is.  Besides the gas mileage there are a couple of things I like about this car.  The paint is gorgeous.  I don't know if it comes through in the pic, but it's like a gray-steely-blue and it only comes on the Hybrid.  The other thing is a trunk.  I haven't had a trunk in a while so that's kind of cool to have.  By going from the regular Civic to the Hybrid I didn't lower my payment at all but I got a great warranty (7yr/100K bumper to bumper) and will still save at least $250/mo in gas.  More if prices go up.

Great!!  Now you've become a Hybrid snob.  It will take time and be a slow process, yet you'll slowly become an ACTUAL snob and start to distance yourself from all your friends who haven't gone as green as you.

Well, it was nice knowing you.  Just getting that out of the way now as we don't know WHEN you will become that snob and break off communication.

oh yeah, nice civic.  From one civic driver to another.

I like it!  It does look like a real car.  My brother still drives a Civic from the late 80's (a tiny little thing) and that's all I can imagine when I think of a Civic.

Good news!  I have to take the wheels and seat off but the bike fits in the trunk!  I also had a hitch installed for a 2 bike carrier.  Sweeeeeet.

The weather is perfect in MI today. So, for my lunch hour, I just drove around and wasted a bunch of gas. Probably ten bucks worth. While I was busy polluting the local state park with my exhaust, I happened to be driving my wrangler with the top down, and just enough volume on the radio be slightly obnoxious. What a great feeling.

Oh yeah, and now I feel a little dirty from the road grit.

Jealous, aren't you?

Well, I've got 190 miles on a car I've owned for 48 hours and it is still over half a tank.  I'm pretty happy about that.  I keep planning out my mornings before work and forgetting that I don't have to budget time to go the gas station.  Probably not until next Wed or so.  SWEET!
