Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay John and Luis, you 2 are my last 2. Welcome to the group. I'll touch base with everyone tomorrow when I have some time. (I took the day off work! Luis, I think you and Trixie will have a lot to talk about seeing as you both are playing with a few cards short of a deck! (Nobody in their right mind likes to do ultras!!) That being said, I'll probably be doing one before too long. |

Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We're coming up on the first weekend of the new year!!! What does everyone have in store for training? If you're not already doing so, try to use the training logs to keep track of your training. The route tracker is a great tool and is very accurate. It also has a feature that will keep statistics for individual routes. If you have a route that you want to use as a standard to run every couple weeks, the site will keep the statistics for that route. Take care and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! |

New user![]() | ![]() Hi Bob, I'd like to join your group. I'll turn 36 on January 6th and am married with three children, two boys and a girl. All under the age of six (kill me). I am a bigger guy at six foot, 242 pounds. Historically I have been a very good athlete. I was good in football (all conference, all state and played linebacker for UW-Wisconsin 1990-93) wrestling (all state) and track (state semi-finals in shot put). I have also no stranger to running as my parents are both marathoners. In fact my Dad has completed 27 Boston Marathons (he is an animal). But as of late I have fallen prey to the fate of most ex-athletes – the beer mug.. Since our children were born I have done less and less running and more and more beer exercises ?. Plainly stated, I am fat, out of shape and enough is enough. I want to be an athlete again. Last year I completed the 7 mile bridge race in Marathon Key, Florida. It was hard but I did well (there was free beer at the finish). So I have a little running base. Where I live in Fort Lauderdale is great training ground for triathlons. Miles of paved bike trails, and three Olympic pools within 4 miles of my house. Not to mention the Atlantic Ocean not 20 minutes away. My goal is to run my first Olympic triathlon (my first triathlon really) by late spring 2008. I’d like to do no less than three triathlons in all of 2008. By 2009 I would like to complete a 1/2IM. The ULTIMATE would be to do a full in 2010. You sound like a guy that can help me do it! I hope there is room on your team! Cheers, Jason |

Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jason, welcome to the group. It sounds like you are going to fit right in. Let me say that one of the most memorable parts of IMWI was running on Badger Field. That was a treat. It sounds like you are in triathlon training heaven down there. We'll get you on the right track, we've got a group with a wide variety of backgrounds here. Keep the posts coming and I will offer any advice and be asking some advise from everyone as well. BTW - Guiness has 125 calories per 12 oz serving!! Woop! Woop!! |

Is it similar to the water we swam around in at IMMOO? I think that was the last time I swam.... |
![]() ![]() |
Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Trixie you're killin' me! The "pool" is usually a rectangular shaped hole in the ground that is filled with chlorinated water. It had lines on the bottom to aid in swimming laps. Usually in the U.S. the "pool" is 25 yards in length and it takes 70 lengths of said "pool" to swim 1 mile. (This 70 lengths is less than 1/2 of the IM you will be signing up for!!) I thought our swim at IMMOO should have made the highlights!!! Edited by rstocks3 2008-01-04 2:37 PM |

Sounds like some pretty awesome goals for the week. I am envious of your running already! The spin classes are a great way to keep your biking legs in the winter. I take an extra towel and create makeshift aero bars, I can get that spin bike to set up almost identical to my tri bike. Have a great week!!! |

Bob![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone else have some weekly goals they would like to post? It's a great way to stay motivated, especially when the rest of the group can call you a slacker! I hope everyone is out there training!! I'm anxious to see how everyone's doing! |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello, Well...here's a broad look at my goals for the week...that's one of my goals...define a plan! 1. Heart Rate -I've decided I really want to figure out what my max heart rate is and work on building a base. I also want to get my Garmin figured out...started having issues with it. Need to call garmin...I've searched all the sites with no luck. Might do a test on my own. I need to define my zones...etc. 2. Start working out off a plan: I uploaded a Maintenance plan with run focused to help build a base. I haven't look at it in detail yet, but will look at tailoring it. 3. Read - Running formula by Jack Daniels. Seems to have a lot about building a base and Vo2 max...wow...that is not my type of reading. Way too detailed for me, but I've heard really good. From what I've read so far I really think I overtrained last summer and never built much of a base. For actual workout - I will try to run 3x, swim 2x and bike 2x...(I ordered a new fluid trainer...so I may do a little more bike suppose to be here Monday)...I also need to lift 2x Any thoughts/advice on my run today and my heartrate? Today I went out for an "easy" run. Thinking I would keep my heart rate around 140. The sun was out and snow was melting. I never was cold. I walked for about 5 minutes then started a slow run...10min mile. My heart rate quickly went to 150 and for a good portion was up in the 170's. Thanks...T Have a great week everyone! I impressed by a lot of the Bios! |
