Way to go Geckos!!!!!

I'm back from my race and will post my RR later once I get my official finish time.  I think I can say that I had a good swim, positive I had a good bike split but totally crapped out on the run.  Why?  Simply because of the numerous terrain changes on the course and I'm not talking about hills but more like grass, packed dirt, grass, packed dirt, grass... ooops, a little bit of alsphalt.... grass, more grass, packed dirt... ooops, another bit of alsphalt... more grass and grass to finish.  Out of 6.5 km, only a couple of 150m patches of asphalt.  I am not a trail runner by any means and that's something I should be thinking about doing if I want to race this venue (which is awesome BTW) again next year.

Sigh...

I had an interesting ride through Chester today.  Rode in neighborhoods I've passed by before, crossed over railroad tracks for the first time.  Climbed some interesting hills...then followed it with the transition run around the block.

WAY TO GO GECKO'S!  Let's keep moving towards the goals!

Hm, sounds like the cheers we used to sing during my high school swim team days.

And yes, if you're wondering, that WAS a long time ago.

zipp1 - 2008-06-14 12:08 PM I swam the whole thing without a panic attack, hugging a kayak or bouy or a single thought of backstroke!  Definitely a first and a major breakthrough in OWS for me!

maggyruth - 2008-06-13 7:56 AM So, I'm thinking that I should switch the Oly (it would be my first) that I'm planning to do at the end of the month to a sprint. I haven't been able to get the training in due to my recent move, and it would probably be a major suffer fest. I'm just not sure. Thoughts?

If you can switch, it's probably not a bad idea given how you feel.  Avoiding a suffer fest is always a good plan.

Nice avatar.  Are you UW grad or somethin'?  Or was that just to make me smile?

Judi and I did a one mile OWS race this morning.  Went really well for both of us.  I cut three minutes off my old PR.

Have a bike planned for this afternoon.

That is huge.  Great job.  Way to go.  You rock.  Awesome.  Woohoo.

tritwinmom - 2008-06-15 12:42 PM Well if it wasn't for this challenge this month I know I would have a lot of white and yellow squares, yesterday while everyone was taking a nap I was out on my bike putting in my time... When people visit they are on vacation and I feel I should be too, so hard to fit the training in!

I bet people are always vacationing with you.  When I come to Hawaii can I stay at your house?  I promise I will train with you  Some day I will get there.

Frank's out on the beltline?  Yummy burgers.  You sound like a smarty marty.  I did not fare too well in Chemistry  I guess I shouldn't have cheated so much in high school.  Maybe you can tell me what stinks so bad in my office.  It smells like stinky feet.  Maybe someone is eating Frito's.  YUCK!

The sprint race I did yesterday went well. I was hoping to come in under 1:10:30, but missed by 15 seconds. It was still a course PR for me so all is good. After the race I hung out on the beach with a cold beverage and played in the surf with my two boys. A Father's Day spent racing in the morning, playing with my boys, and enjoying a cold beer....now that is the definition of living the "AMERICAN DREAM"! Train hard.

CONGRATS on a great race!   It's painful though to come that close to a time goal and miss it by so little.   I missed  my time goal on a race by 18 seconds once -- about killed me -- That one was a PR as well.

Oh well -- nothing to cry about -- you did it!   How many other people can say that they did that???

Ran 32 minutes today; a little over my training plan to try to help make up for missing my run last week.  I figure if I run at least 5 minutes extra for each of my runs that should make up for the one I missed.

Yep, I hear you... I missed a swim. So I will have to do a bit extra on all my remaining swims.
