wurkit_gurl - 2008-10-13 11:33 AM Dood, why the eff is it still 80 degrees here? It's October. Arg...I want to go apple picking this weekend, but the apples are all gonna be crap cuz it's been hot.

WTF is it 60 degrees here?  I had to wear a fleece hoody on my run on Sat. it was so cold.  I don't mind, becuase I love fleece and jackets, and can't wait to wear them.  But it's unseasonably cold right now....

I went riding in shorts and shortsleeves in the morning on Saturday and it was 60... HTFU

I have grown acustomed to the heat.  I can handle 115 now when tourist are melting.  But 50's feels chilly now.

Running outside with the temps in the high 40s low 50s is the greatest thing ever. I would probably melt in 115 weather...

Tell me about it.  I can run so much faster in the 50's.  90 and above?  I feel like I'm staggering through the desert...

ETA:  Toppage again.  Some may even think I'm timing it.  But negative, I am not.

You want cold?  Minnesota.  Once, I went up there in Feb. for a funeral.  I left the airport and it was SOOO cold, I started to panic a little.  You can just tell, that if you spent any time out there, you would die.  You're instincts just told you that it was bad to be outside.

(it was below zero, that day....).

They have to plug there cars into the wall sockets so the engine blocks don't freeze.  That's sick.

Troof... Coldest I've been in was -23F... That is like a normal winter day.

Coldest I've ever been was skiing in -6F. The wind chill was just brutal. But the slopes were empty and you have heavy gear on... why waste the pass you bought ahead of time.

Yup, was in Michigan in November once - the cold there is so dry, as compared to Boston or even NY - it's soul-sucking. And everything is flat and gray and bleak. Ick. At least New England is pretty even when it's cold.

Dude...I grew up in Wisconsin.  I understand cold.  My parents cars all have the engine block heaters.

I drive a diesel.  You have to make sure the diesel is "winterized" - they add an additive to lower the temperature where it goes from liquid to solid.  I did have once where it turned to a solid in my fuel lines and had to get a tow to a garage so it would liquefy again.  It's crazy.

I just get worried about the temps becuase if it's this cold now, I worry about what's it going to be like in a month when I race.  I never really concened my self with winter riding gear.  That could be an issue.  I guess I won't worry about it till I see the forcast for that day a week prior.

I went skiing in -20F, but with all the wind, the wind chill was -40 to -50.  It was miserable.  Did a run, went inside, repeat for day.  At least I was young enough that my lift was free.  My dad was trying to get the most out of his lift ticket and had no parts of his face uncovered.  Yuck.

I know, that's what I keep thinking about. That it's gonna be 80 degrees on the 26th for you guys. Last year, we had good weather, a bit warmer than usual, but not ridiculous. Beautiful day.

Don't say that!!!  We WILL have good weather.

I'd be worried about feel... How does the extra stuff impact you on the bike? Do you have the same movement? Does it fit right after an hour on the bike?

I think it was -10 or colder.  I see the plugs out of the grill of everyone's car, and I think that "this just isn't right for people to live here" if machines don't even work.

My uncles car couldn't keep up with the cold.  The heater was on full blast, and the car never did get warm.

That's generally Jan 15th to Feb 20th or so.  The wind starts blowing and you walk outside and you can't even breathe.

My senior year of college, we had a cold snap for about 2 weeks where people basically did not go outside because the windchill was in the negative teens. We were on winter break but I was back in my apartment, and I didn't leave it for 4 days straight. I had food and nowhere else to be. But then again, the day before I went home for Christmas my freshman year, I was outside without a jacket. The Northeast isn't the Arctic circle or anything.

Shut up.  I don't need more to worry about.

I think that during the bike, as long as it's sunny, I can deal with it.  a long sleeve jersey at most.

I will probably pack a fleece for the run if it's cold.  I will have to finish at night, and then it could be bad.  Last year, it was really warm, so a trisuit was perfect.

Yup, that's the coldest part of the year - the part that sucks the most up north. And everyone goes nuts from being inside too much.

That's generally Jan 15th to Feb 20th or so.  The wind starts blowing and you walk outside and you can't even breathe.

I think it's funny when you take a breath through your nose, and you can feel the snot freezing in the insides of your sinuses...  Good stuff...
