I run in Brooks Trance 9's right now. It took me almost 4 seasons of distance running to find a good match for my feet and running gait. I train and race in 'em.

And I think the wristbands are great...I'd love it if we could get IMAZ 2009 on them, too! (hell...I'd probably buy a couple of 'em)

I've been running in Asic Gt-2130/2140's for the past year. Purchased a pair of Mizuno Wave's as an alternate to try out for September.  Not sure yet which I'll race with, will see how the next two months go with both.

I'm planning on ordering the wristbands debossed with IMAZ 2009. No color fill on the debosssing, just inset.

I have been a dedicated Asic Gel Kayano fan for years.  One of the things I always appreciated about them was that they didn't mess with the basic fit and feel.  Recently they raised the height of the material in heel and it digs into me now.  I have switched to the Mizzuno but am not really sold on them.  I hate that Asics messed with my shoe.

Whatever you do, don't do Newtons if you're not used to them. They're great shoes, I agree 100% but there's new muscles involved with running on your forefoot, and you certainly haven't trained them if your're not a forefoot striker.
Don't go with racing flats neither, most of Tempe Town Lake Park is concrete, you'll pay for it.
I would recommend something you're already used to for long distances. Maybe some support mixed with cushion in the 10.5oz range?

Ironman training confession........I am going to Vegas tonight so I can drool over eveything at Interbike tomorrow.  I will not be doing my long ride on Saturday, instead I will be watching my MSU Spartans on tv at some casino with a few mimosas starting at 9am.  I will get some training in this weekend, but overall I'm just looking forward to having fun!

There I have confessed my planned slacker-ness and feel much better.

I think you penance should involve laying out at the pool with a cold beverage. Have fun! I'm jealous.

Many of the big names aren't at Interbike this year, but still enough to see. Be sure and check out the Troy Lee painted tri bike.

Any enjoy the time in Vegas, weather is great right now.

Did the Black Diamond 1/2 Ironman this weekend and it went well for me, 5:44:48. I took 27 minutes off of my last 1/2 which was Lake Stevens so that is good. I thought they said flat to rolling hills on the run but gravity seemed to be finding me a bunch on the run. Anyway, overall was encouraging for AZ. Portland Marathon this weekend. Then big bricks on tap for October.

Oh and I'm in for the wristband and shirt. The brighter the better so we can recognize them. Also I am using Newton Trainers and love them. I think 60 days would be enough time to get used to the shoes. I think I had them a couple of weeks before I felt good in them. I forgot my shoes for my triathlon this weekend, what a dork!! I went to Roadrunner sports and bought some Mizuno Creation 10 and wore them for about an hour and they hurt my feet so I wore an old pair of tennis shoes that I wear for everyday use. Good decision since they are well broken in. Took the others back today. DONT FORGET YOUR SHOES...note to self!

Speaking of Interbike... and I HAVE to mention this, because I can't believe my luck... I won an ENTIRE Dura-Ace Di2 road gruppo in a raffle at the Shimano tech clinic.  All the electrical parts AND mechanical parts.

I'm looking forward to building up a road bike after Ironman!

Wow!  Congrats!  You should see if you could trade it for bar end shifters set up (which they also make) and outfit your tri bike with Di-2

I asked, but was told no.  Honestly, I already have a fun tri bike, so I am totally cool with building a road bike.  The Shimano guys were really nice and, really, I was just there for the seminar.  What a bonus!

Also, for those interested in the Di2 ST-7971 tri bike shifters, know this - it's not completely plug-and-play because it requires additional weather-proofing/shrink-wrapping.  If you're the type of person that changes out your bars occasionally (and I do know people that do), it's more than just re-running the housing and cables and putting on bar tape.

Not that it's not totally cool, though - shifters on the bullhorns?  Yes please.

Just dropping off my training weekend, as I am excited about the results..  First, I'm in for the red/white/blue wristbands and will take a few off your hands.. I have been running in Asics Gel Nimbus and even had to retire both pairs of Nimbus 6..  Yes, I know they had a ton of miles on them..  I now have 3 pairs of Nimbus 10's to get thru.. Having a neutral foot has its advantages..  Now on to WOO HOO time.. Coach is ramping up my training now and on my recent 3, 4 and 5 hour rides I have been holding a 15 mph pace, for 45, 60 and 75 mile totals... Started off with a 2:30 nite run along PCH Friday night for 14 miles..  Had 3700 yard pool swim in 1:46 on Saturday morning and a 6 hr ride today... I think I have nailed my nutrition and fluids as today I hammered it.. I did 90 miles in 5:58 and would have had no problem doing another 22.  Did my butt hurt? Sure... Did I almost use the rest of my Johnson's Baby Lotion? Yep... I have the softest, best smelling bike saddle anywhere!!!  I am getting ready for bed now and feel good... No tightness in the legs and butt still a bit sore, but I will just have to see how I feel in the AM..  I am so excited... Down to about 136 at the moment, so knock wood, all is hanging on my end..  We are all tough and we can get thru whatever life throws our way between now and 11/22..  We just gotta want it and by reading these postings, we do...  Hang in there and strap yerselves in tight....  We are headed for "ludicrous speed"!!!

I'm in this with you too :-)

I'm following the BT training plan which doesn't seem as intense as what you guys have been saying about your times and mileage.  Longest ride so far was a 4 hour ride, which I put in 70 mile during.  That was the longest one on the plan, but early on the training I tagged along with some friends that were doing a century.  Longest run was 2:30 and I put in just over 20 miles.

Last month brought the pain though and this (peak) month is already starting off strong.  I have a pre-work 2 hour/1 hour run brick tomorrow.  awesome.

I did the Las Vegas HIM this weekend and got humbled.  I really need help with my nutrition.  I failed miserably at it.  More big training this weekend though...should crack my first 100.

I have a question.  I'll be running after dark - is the course lit?  I don't usually run outside in the dark because I am quite sure I will find that pothole or uneven part of the street and end up falling.  do we need a headlamp?  I know we'll get those glow necklaces - do those light the way enough?

I was thinking about sticking a headlamp in T2 but would love to hear more about the lighting on the course.

I have not been to IMAZ before but the other IM's I have spectated at all had 'lighting'.  I am sure AZ will as well and since we are going to be doing loops I bet they will have it lit well!

I just did Augusta 70.3 this weekend.  I had a great race but it definately brought me back to reality that IMAZ is getting closer.  I felt spent after the 70.3 miles...I can't imagine doing 140.6!!  I guess I won't really have to imagine it though...in less than 8 weeks it will be reality!!Surprised

I did AZ last year and will be doing it again this year. I ran for about 1/2hr when it was dark and it seemed to be very well lighted.

I did my second century ride this weekend...holy smokes did it hurt. It was a pretty decent 80 miles with a 24 mile sufferfest tacked onto the end. As evidenced by both centuries to date...I'm going to be at risk of not making the bike cutoff, I fear. But d*mn it...I'm going to give it my most valiant effort. We'll see what happens I suppose!

I have to disagree with this one.  I did IMAZ last April and finished at 9:00pm so it was definately after dark.  The last loop of my run was slowed as much by the darkness as it was by fatigue.  When you are that fatigued the darkness is even more bothersome than normal because you just don't have the normal perception and responsiveness that you would normally have.  A slight miss step which you would otherwise barely notice can have you eating pavement.  With this being a fall race, it will get dark much sooner than it did in April and I will definately have a headlamp with me.  There were sections that I thought were very dark.
