Puts me in Augusta at 8:30AM. I am going down to the river to do a swim and an easy run afterwards. Can anyone have a good place for breakfast in Augusta? I might be late on this, but a good place to eat breakfast is Sunrise Grill- just over 13th bridge into N. Augusta. And of course there's a Cracker Barrel off I-20W past the Washington Rd exit. There's a cafe downtown (I think it's Blue Moon Cafe or something like that) and they have really good coffee. Ended up at Blue Moon. I met titeloops who has been in my mentor group all year. Got the bike checked in, just saw NC State beat Ga Tech, going to relax the rest of the day. I second the suggestion of coming in on Friday if you are able. This has been smooth. I was the second guy in line yesterday getting my packet. Was able to get up early this morning for a river swim and rode the bike. Will get some dinner tonight and try and sleep by 9 |

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread E-Dub - 2010-09-25 2:59 PM Possible rain overnight so I'll se up in the am and hope for the best... The line for reg right now is longer than the race will be tomorrow. It doesn't seem divided by # or abc and I only saw 2 guys at a desk... Hope I'm wrong. Wow- last year the line was really bad on Saturday. It was really long and we all waited in the hallway and once we got up to the table we realized they had it split up alphabetically but nobody told us. That would have cut the wait time in half had we known. I was thinking that this year registration would be better since they learned from last year but I guess not? If they didn't make you attend the meeting before registration the process would go quicker since everyone wouldn't be going at the same time. |

Extreme Veteran 434 Stuart | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread Yeah you have a good case to be pissed. There is no excuse for that they new exactly how many people were racing. Usally 10% or so dont show. I can almost understand running out of water at the end although they shouldnt. For what we pay we should have everything avalible to us. if I were a race director I would get those medals asap and overnight them with a discount code for another race. I would raise Holy Hell if I were you. Medal or no medal you finished. Hold your head high. |

Member 11 Duncan SC | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread What an amazing race! Fast swim, fun fast bike, and tons of support on the flat run through Augusta. My wife and I are so pumped that we'll be back with friends next year. Rain actually helped with the bike and run. Only complaint is that my wife lost her timing chip on that flimsy crappy strap that they forced us to use instead of our own that we know would've held the chip. No splits for her so she was bummed. Veteran 149 Charlotte, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread Agree with previous comments. Not getting a medal after 6 + hours totally sucks. There were a number of 'administrative' issues with this event from check in registration lines, parking, to day bag pick up. Despite the craziness, the rain and cool temps helped me post a new PR by almost an hour from White Lake. Would have done better but pulled my calf muscle at mile 4 of the run. I found results at http://www.runtri.com/2010/08/toughesthardest-vs-easiestfastest-half.html Great job everyone. Kurt |

7 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread I was really happy with how my day went until I went to check results and was told that they had decided on race day at some point to do away with the Athena and Clydesdale divisions. I had been signed up as an Athena for the past year and even when I picked up my registration it all said Athena on it. I have trained for the past 6 months to win the Athena title and ended up with the best race of my life with a time that would have won 1st in Athena. I went to get my results and the race directors told me they were putting everyone in their age groups instead and that I could go home. Totally disappointed. I've written an email to the Ironman people and am waiting for a response. I'm guessing that I'm not the only Athena or Clydesdale that feels cheated? |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread Overall great race course, but mega displeased for the same reasons above^^^ and for the lack of medals as noted above for all finishers, registration nightmares, and horrible transition clearing issues (I had to walk 1.5 mi each way with blistered feet from the closest available parking). Also was disappointed they went to crappy plaques from the killer plexiglass carved Mdots of last year. Just seemed cheap in Augusta, home of the Masters for crissakes. Having said that, I had an awesome weekend with Tri14kix family, friends, and teammates and race day was awesome. I did, however, train like a banshee to defend my clydes and hammered my body to bits but got no recognition. Waanh. Also waited around for a couple of hours for the stupid plaque I never received. OK, it sounds like whining and everyone is after me to go into AG now, but I registered as clydes and got taunted by fellow clydes and threw down a 6-7 minute PR. Take that WTC! |

Take that WTC! that right there is pretty damn funny. i never understood this. what? you're not fat enough to compete. invite them to bust their a$$es in training, quit worrying about what someone else is doing and then maybe one day someone will taunt them about how they should be racing a/g. i had a blast and a 46 minute pr. but unfortunately i have to agree with some of the things i saw and am reading about. did anyone catch charlie's (from rev3) post over on st in the augusta registration thread.... Rumor has it that Rev3 may be adding another race in the southern region, not so far outside of Atlanta, around the same time frame of Augusta. Thats what I heard anyway..... kacie.. it didn't sell out this year Edited by fattyfatfat 2010-09-27 8:06 AM |

I was fortunate to get a medal, but that is so pathetic to run out. Great course, great support, and great spectators especially on the run on Broad St., and the drill sergeant dude at that one corner, awesome. |

I was fortunate to get a medal, but that is so pathetic to run out. Great course, great support, and great spectators especially on the run on Broad St., and the drill sergeant dude at that one corner, awesome. I love the "drill seargeant dude" on the corner, too! He had some running tips "You're Not Bouncers, you're Gliders! I want to see some glide in that stride!" on my first lap and he told me he was proud of me on my second lap....made me smile both times. I was surprised that the EXPO was so small...and crowded. No complaints...just surprised. The EXPO at the Country Music Marathon was HUGE so I guess I assumed that this race would be similar. Parking (and picking up bikes after the race) and the lack of adequate communication over options was my only issue and I assume that will be better next year when construction is finished at the Mariott. We had to hoof it the mile or so back to transition and then ride our bikes lugging all the gear back to the car parked at the swim start. I'm mentally adding that mileage to my day. Do they make 72.5 stickers for my car? I did stand in a long line for registration but it moved quickly when I was there. I'll plan to go on Friday next year just to avoid having to be on my feet any longer than possible on Saturday. Beyond thrilled with my first HIM time of 5:54...and hubby's first HIM time of 5:24...especially since he is coming off of a major bike wreck two weeks prior to the race and managed to slam his thumb in the car door twenty minutes before the swim start. He's a trooper! |
