TRAINING QUESTION:

How long of a run do you do without hydration.  I went for a 70min run this weekend and think that might be too far for me (heavy sweater in 100% humidity and 80ish degrees...)  What say you MG?

generally, <low 80's and i'll go for an hour without anything.  after that it's a game time decision.  the higher humidity and temp the more bottles on the belt.  35 minute last week with two bottles and i still dropped weight.  also depends on the route.  nothing around here is >75% shade.  and when its warm, say above 95, even 100 yard stretches of open sun are tough.  so now you have to account for water being dumped down the back of the neck as well as down your throat.

i don't like wearing the belt, uncomfortable.  but better to have than not have.

desoto introduced this recently.  i like the idea of the pockets along the spine for ice packs.  i just don't know about the skin cooler technology.

I have become a huge fan of bringing water for anything longer than 30 minutes in 70+ temps, and even in cold weather, anything longer than 45 minutes, I need my little fuel bottle of water.  I think it has improved my performance to drink a little every 5-10 minutes.  I like the little 10 oz handheld.

Yesterday on my 45 min brick run, I drank 7 oz of it...so yes, Andy, bring water!!!

two more things to keep in mind andy that you know but always good to hear again.

your pace is gonna take a big hit in this weather.  karen said it best on her post on the main forum

second thing... i could be wrong here, doubt it,  but quit wearing makeup.  this way when it rains on race day you won't have NOT RACE because you're worried your mascara and whatever that powder stuff you put on your cheeks is called won't come off.

I typically carry a thing of water on any run, even fully hydrated I get thirsty quick and drink quite often. I am getting better but it has been so hot lately I just want to stay hydrated.

Happy belated 4th of July everyone.  We traveled to TN to meet up with my folks last week.  We had a blast, and the trip was really good for everyone.  I ran the TN hills a few times...dang it was tough in the heat.  Guess I"m really a wuss.

Let's see......Congrats Roni on becoming an upcoming grandma.  My parents say that being a grandparent is so great.  Had they known it was going to be so great they would have skipped being parents and gone straight to the grandparent  role.

George, awesome for your son!  So happy for him!

Trevor...WOW!  What an incredible improvment.  Your hard work has obviously paid off.

Running with water.  My husband (from AZ) never leaves the house without it...no matter what the temp is.
Me, if the temp is above 85 or if I have a run over 60 min I take water.

?My Dad has decided on a treatment plan.  ??Would a??ppreciate prayers that he is accepted and things go well for him.?

Sorry if I missed anything.  Missing a few days then trying to keep up with this group is tough.?

dalessit - 2010-07-06 8:22 AM Hope everyone had a great Holiday weekend.  Seemed to fly by.

Debating on a race this weekend, they had Jellyfish there a few years ago and I am not a fan, so can't decide if I should sign up or not...

HTFU...    Now if it was snakes - no way!

I did sign up but if I see any Jellyfish I am making it a Duathlon.

LOL, my Mom is coming to the race with me, she's never been to one before, I'll recommend she bring a book I guess.

Thanks, Linda! I'll keep your Dad in my prayers.

Drink, Andy!

I'm just waiting for my parents to arrive here in Kalispell with my youngest, then we can get ready to drive her car, cat and belongings to Louisiana.  Spent the day with my oldest at the mechanics trying to get her a running car. A parent's job is never done.

Hi Everyone.....well the sun finally showed up late afternoon so the man and I jumped on the boat for a little spin before grilling out....watching Stage #3 tonight!  Cobbles seem crazy!

Linda--so happy your father has selected a treatment option and I really hope he is selected for it.  I know what you are going through and will keep you and your dad in my prayers.

Andy--give your weather conditions, I think carrying water and taking electrolytes like Salt Stick is mandatory.  Also know your pace will be affected quite a bit in high temps.  I sent John a pace change chart so maybe he can forward that to you.  I normally don't carry water unless the temps are high, but I have had a few times where performance really suffered as a result of it.  I have a 2 hour run tomorrow and am going to stash water in a couple of places along the way.  Don;t think a water fountain is enough, it isnt.
