COFFEE! This is thanks to a couple of things: 1) Tony left for NYC last night and it was weird having the entire apartment and bed to myself; 2) the seemingly endless effing police sirens; 3) the idiot Harley/Harley wannabe riders with their idiotic loud pipes; and 4) my neighbour who decided to display his impressive...um... I've also gone vegan (and whole foods organic whenever possible). Not strictly: if someone gives me a cheese-flavored cracker I'll eat it, I won't turn down ice-cream, and if someone made a veggie soup with chicken broth that's cool too. But no meat, dairy, eggs, very little processed food. Exceptions are made for things like Pop Tarts (but I do have some organic vegan ones!) and Nutri-Grain either before long sessions or as recovery food after. |

And I did applaud after the big finale last night (this morning), but I don't think they heard me. Maybe I should slip an 'inspire' under their door just saying "nice work!!" I experience this occasionally in hotels. I can't imagine dealing with it on a regular basis. Like Chris, I've lived in a house too long to share walls. Even with shyte like that I LOVE inner city living. I think I am the opposite. I lived in a house in the burbs with a ton of acreage (ie yard work) for too long I'm a wee bit outside of "downtown" but I could totally handle more. However, I love motorcycles and all but Harleys annoy the crap out of me. I'm the same - lived in a house in the 'burbs growing up, and so far - I don't miss it. We go out to friends' houses and every so often have the thought of 'maybe we should look at moving to...' and then those thoughts go away when we think of having to buy a car to go anywhere, not being able to walk to work, the theater, restaurants, grocery stores, shops, the lake, being 2 blocks from the lakefront trail, having all the festivals, etc. within walking distance... I'll put up with a little of the eee-oooo, eee-oooo night time noises for what I do get out of it. I miss having a motorcycle - but no way are you getting me on a d a mn Harley! I'm a sport bike girl. I like you Ah man, I dated this guy who was obsessed with Harleys. For a while I tolerated it. I mean, it's cool I guess, if you are really into it. So we went to the Harley dealer and I was sitting on bikes and asking questions and whatnot. I look around to see where the ol' BF was and he was in the clothing section!!! The guy spent all his time buying Harley shirts and wasn't even interested in the bikes. WTF? Perhaps that's part of why things turned out the way they did |

Champion 10550![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Originally posted by Asalzwed Originally posted by bcraht Originally posted by rrrunner Originally posted by amd723 Originally posted by rrrunner Can't you be a blend? My mother is 83. For her 70 th birthday she went white water rafting. When she was 77 she went tubing. Last year she hiked up the cliffs of Dun Aonghasa on the Aran Islands, this year she made the climb to the top of Mount St Michel in France. She did lots of other things during these vacations too. She also makes a turkey soup that all her grandchildren ( and children) continually ask her to make and always has chocolate and or Oreos handy for us all. Her grandchildren regularly say, "Nana, you are the coolest nana ever !" I can't disagree with that sentiment. I was going to hijack the hijack in the Core Challenge thread but decided to contemplate this here, where I feel... safer. So Chris' talk of bluegrass got me thinking about my Grandma. Typical Iowa grandma. Short, round and full of love. She always had old school country or bluegrass playing at that farmhouse in Winterset, Iowa (think Bridges of Madison County) and could sing and yodel with the best of them. Her "round-ness" is so much a part of my fond memories of her (God I miss her). Of course, the food she made was Paula Deen style with lots of fat and butter, but she made THE BEST biscuits n' gravy!!!!!!! So thinking about Felicia's RR and which grandma do I want to be (hopefully those days are still a few years away). Do I want to be the round (wouldn't take much to get back there) grandma that spoils my grandkids with yummy treats and good hardy meals, or do I want to be the fit grandma that can run and play with them and they (maybe) think I'm badazz because "Grandma did an Ironman", but I feed them carrots (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration because I try to make healthy food that tastes good). Being wrapped up in grandma's jiggly arms against her robust bosom was so comforting... BTW, DS2 gets here tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! (and he requested biscuits n gravy for breakfast) I was kinda thinking along those lines, I guess I just don't have that modelled for me. I come from farm stock, where the women work hard but they're... fluffy. I guess it goes back to the feeling of comfort with grandma making yummies in the kitchen, the warm stove, oldies on the radio (even at my mom's). I must admit I have the habit of expressing love through food too. I try to keep it healthy on a regular basis for DH and DS1, but I love the feeling of someone enjoying food I've made. "Eat!! Eat!!" Be the fit mom/grandma who makes good food yummy. If ya want to give them a fluffy hug, wrap yourself in bubble wrap. Yup. X eleventy billion. Growing up I loved bragging about the fact that my grandma would swim 100 lengths in the pool every morning and could beat the pants off my brother at golf (okay, that one was more fun to brag about because of my brother losing - kind of a neener, neener, neener thing) and would also have ice cream waiting at the house for us whenever we came over. |

But no meat, dairy, eggs, very little processed food. Exceptions are made for things like Pop Tarts (but I do have some organic vegan ones!) and Nutri-Grain either before long sessions or as recovery food after. That's great! I will NEVER be vegetarian but I have made some efforts to scale back on the meat which is INSANE for me. I went like 3 days without. Madness!!! I won't ever be vegetarian either. Dead animals are just too gosh darned tasty. I was a vegetarian for about 4 years. It was not good for my health. I got super anemic. I have low stored iron even with eating animals, so it's really hard for me to get enough if I'm not eating meat. I'm the same with my iron - I recently started taking a daily iron supplement (on the advice from my doctor) and I've noticed a nice change in that I'm not nearly as fatigued anymore. |

My mom isn't fluffy but it isn't because she eats healthy or has an active lifestyle. Her metabolism went wacko a few years back and she can't gain a pound if she tries. (She makes a pretty mean biscuits n gravy too).
