P.S.

I've also gone vegan (and whole foods organic whenever possible). Not strictly: if someone gives me a cheese-flavored cracker I'll eat it, I won't turn down ice-cream, and if someone made a veggie soup with chicken broth that's cool too.

But no meat, dairy, eggs, very little processed food.

Exceptions are made for things like Pop Tarts (but I do have some organic vegan ones!) and Nutri-Grain either before long sessions or as recovery food after.

That's great!

I will NEVER be vegetarian but I have made some efforts to scale back on the meat which is INSANE for me. I went like 3 days without. Madness!!!

I won't ever be vegetarian either.  Dead animals are just too gosh darned tasty.

I was a vegetarian for about 4 years. It was not good for my health.  I got super anemic.  I have low stored iron even with eating animals, so it's really hard for me to get enough if I'm not eating meat.

I'm the same with my iron - I recently started taking a daily iron supplement (on the advice from my doctor) and I've noticed a nice change in that I'm not nearly as fatigued anymore.

I have to have iron in my multi-vitamin.  The only time I didn't use it was during pregnancy because the iron made my hyperemesis a lot worse.

Its official, they transferred the reg. over to me. I am running my first half marathon on Saturday night! Sealed If I make it in within 3 hours, I will consider it a great race.....nevermind that the farthest RUN distance I have done was 10 miles...back in February, and that the farthest I have run at one time since then was 7.8 miles....I am betting there will be plenty of walking during this, and plenty of pain on Sunday. At least I have my running team there to cheer me on--and take pics!

Congratulations! I've been mostly vegetarian for about 6 months now and haven't lost a pound. Don't know why unless it is my weekend alcohol and nightly ice cream

This is thanks to a couple of things:

1) Tony left for NYC last night and it was weird having the entire apartment and bed to myself;

2) the seemingly endless effing police sirens;

3) the idiot Harley/Harley wannabe riders with their idiotic loud pipes; and

4) my neighbour who decided to display his impressive...um... "stamina" last night on a very squeaky bed until almost 2am.

Apartment life, I'm not sure I could do it after being in a house for as long as I have.  That said, make sure you congratulate your neighbor on his abilities. Surprised

It's definitely interesting living in an apartment building some days... And I did applaud after the big finale last night (this morning), but I don't think they heard me.  Maybe I should slip an 'inspire' under their door just saying "nice work!!"

I experience this occasionally in hotels. I can't imagine dealing with it on a regular basis. Like Chris, I've lived in a house too long to share walls.

Even with shyte like that I LOVE inner city living. I think I am the opposite. I lived in a house in the burbs with a ton of acreage (ie yard work) for too long Smile

I'm a wee bit outside of "downtown" but I could totally handle more.

However, I love motorcycles and all but Harleys annoy the crap out of me.

I'm the same - lived in a house in the 'burbs growing up, and so far - I don't miss it.

We go out to friends' houses and every so often have the thought of 'maybe we should look at moving to...' and then those thoughts go away when we think of having to buy a car to go anywhere, not being able to walk to work, the theater, restaurants, grocery stores, shops, the lake, being 2 blocks from the lakefront trail, having all the festivals, etc. within walking distance... I'll put up with a little of the eee-oooo, eee-oooo night time noises for what I do get out of it.

I miss having a motorcycle - but no way are you getting me on a d a mn Harley!  I'm a sport bike girl.

I don't live in the burbs; I'm in a downtown neighborhood. Within .5 miles of my house are restaurants, bars, grocery store, diners, etc. about 6 times a year the Main Street is closed down for various festivals. So, I get some of the benefits of downtown living but I get to be in a house. Of course, owning a house can be a real PITA too!

Ah yeah, that's a nice mix. In that case, have us over! Smile

Sure!

If we were supposed to be vegetarians, vegetables would taste like meat.

I have nothing but respect for people who can do it.  Yanti, super awesome :)

I just am a weak, weak omnivore.  Steak 3-4x/week.  Usually ribeye.  Can't help it.

A Little late chiming in on the "Apartment vs House" thing but...

When I purchased and moved into my first home, I still remember getting the best night of sleep I have ever had that first night.

When my wife and I separated - moving from my home back to an apartment was one of the toughest adjustments I have ever had to make.  I heard every single little noise, and I didn't sleep worth a darn for about 2 months.  I also felt like I was taking a step backward in life.  Very difficult after working so hard to become a homeowner.

I then learned to love living in an apartment.  A lot less responsibility - nice to call the maintenance man when something broke - no yard word etc.  Of course, I also missed doing all those things (sense of pride) when I owned my home.  Kind of a double edged sword for me.

I now live in a 2 story duplex.  Love where I live.  Seems like a good compromise.

I tend to do best with thinking more like vegetarian towards getting much what I need out of things like fruits, vegetables, rice, etc, and then use some quality meat to compliment that. David Zabriski said awhile back that he eats basically vegetarian plus some fish. Some misunderstood, thinking he deluding himself into thinking he was a vegetarian, but that wasn't it. He was just simplifying the thought process towards his diet.

OK Manatee's - time for some swim homework.

I've been playing with the GoPro (which I love) - and I did a very short video and some pics of my swim stroke.

I am looking to shave about 20 seconds off my cruising pace and 10 seconds of my best race pace, so your homework is to analyze the pizz out of this video.  Get picky... I mean real picky.  You will not hurt my feelings.

After you post your suggestions - I will post what I noticed.

Thanks - Skrat

Eary vertical forearm needs improving along with keeping the elbows higher. The longer you can keep the forearm vertical through the pull the more power you will generate.    Lowering the head in the water will improve your streamlining.  Look down a bit more.   Reduce the size of your kick as now it is too wide and causing drag.

Hope this helps.

Dude, I am nowhere near qualified or experienced enough to legitimately back up any comments I make on my observations of this video. But , to me, the thing that stands out the most, it appears you have a fair bit of over glide, giving a fair amount of dead time in your stroke. Shoot me down if I'm wrong, I'm still trying to learn this stuff.

If the high point of your career is American Pie, well then how far can you fall, really?

Wardrobe malfunction may be the actual high point.

So, now my focus has shifted to this weekend's big race.

The milk mile.

It goes: drink, lap, drink, lap, drink, lap, drink lap.

Gawd I am hoping for 8 oz glasses of milk, Puullleeeeeease

This would read like this if I had to drink milk while running

drink, lap, barf, drink, lap, vomit, drink, lap, spew.
