SSMinnow - 2009-04-22 5:07 PM I have resorted to printing pages of our posts to try to keep up.  Do we have jobs?

Trevor--a $120 a month?!?!  I belong to a tri club for $75/year and for that we have monthly meetings, training groups, and discounts with sponsors.  We can buy a tri uniform for an additional cost.  For the cost you outline you better be getting some sort of training plan!

Oh, I do have a question for the group. Online coach or local coach for triathlon?  I am thinking of getting one this year as I progress in distance.  I have used an online running coach quite successfully, but wonder if triathlon is different if you are light in one of the disciplines (e.g. swimming). Thoughts?

It is a team, but also coaching, training plan,etc....Sorry i mislead you guys i think. Its $120/month for training plan, coaching, etc.

Trevor-- Suzy is right in the Tri group deal.  It might be worth the money if you are getting a lot of GOOD workouts in.

Suzy-- I would stay local, especially w/ the swimming aspect.  They can/will/should come to your races, help you in the open water, watch you bike, etc...

Trev- we can be your team, you've got tons of coaches whether you like it or not in this group!!!  I can put the $120/month or $1440/yr into a "safe" interest earning account for all of us and we can use it for a big party

tahrens - 2009-04-22 4:27 PM Good news on the foot: it is Peroneal Tendonitis and I have been treating it correctly already.  Gotta love the R.I.C.E. treatment.  They took x-rays to confirm no stess fractures.  The doctor knew just where to push on my foot to make it hurt so it was an easy and certain diagnosis. Gotta love that. He said go easy on it for a few weeks, (good thing these are taper weeks) and then I can make a race day decision.  Think I'll go for it if all systems are good. Thanks for the concern.

GREAT NEWS!  and to think I was laughing at Ryan Hall while watching him run  Boston on RICE husk shoes...

Ha, no worries, I don't play games on there, I blocked them so I don't get the requests either.

I just want to pry into the personal lives of everyone because I'm a secret stalker of the multisport freaks.

that sounds about right.  there is a tri-program that has a great rep in NYC that charges $129/month that includes coaching, plans and 1 cycling class a week.

John--what did you do to get your fat lazy a#$ to swim so much yardage in such a short time?  Awesome results.

THANKS! Honestly...time in the pool, more time in the pool and pounding the guards w/ questions about what I doing wrong.  In return I help the college kids out w/ their geography class...the HS kids just think I'm cool so they like helping me.Wink

Never had a coach, well my wife I guess,  but I think face time is so important.  You can "read" a person in person.  Very difficult to do online and in many cases may be interpreted wrong.  If the $ is there and you feel good about the person then I say local.

TrevorC - 2009-04-22 4:23 PM ARGHHHHH its snowing here. Was about 18C(high 60's F) yesterday, and its snowing right now. NOt cold enough to stick on the ground but still cmon! I'm moving to Texas!

So I was at the LTS yesterday...Is that a real acronym? If not, man I'm good. Anyhow, I was chatting with the manager in there about her team that her and another girl run. Got some basic details from her, and I'm actually considering joining.
But my question is what do you do on a team? Do you train together? Is there individual training,  I know everyone is different, but what would /should I expect for $120/month?

WHOA!  I just caught that!   C'mon down!  You can practice siting and your typewriter skills all at once.  Then we can go hit on the girls up in Austin.  Real easy...Hey good lookin'  Nice tooth!

And our tri club is 35 a year!Laughing

Tony,Tony .....$3.50 US funny boy.

I got some more info from the Tri-team coach. For $120/month it would be setting detailed personalized training plans, unlimited phone/email communication, nutritional guidance, race planning. As well, they do team rides,OWS together, etc.
Minimum 3 month committment....I'm seriously thinking about it.

If any of you get to Houston you better be ready to drink beer, change a diaper, and SWBKRUN.  I'll take care of the rest!!!  You can even have my bed...I'll get some zzzz's while you get the pregnant chick a glass of water or a friggin' apple at 0330.

Yep, Austin is AWESOME!

I 'am starting my 20 week HIM training next week. The question I have is that I have planned an OLympic distance in June and would like to get input into how long after the olympic should I wait until I dig back into my training schedule. I think a day or two should be enough rest but as I haven't done an Oly before don't know how much it takes out of you.

Rob, which one are you going with?  I am trying to find a 20 week plan too.  I looked at one on BT, but am trying to look at all options.

I am about to order that book.  I've been waiting to order until after my HIM next month - I have to focus on one race at a time and I know I won't wait to read it if I have it.  Besides, my IM training does not begin until after my May race.

FYI ... The second edition of Going Long is now available.

By purchasing direct from the author (Gordo on this site), cost is $20 plus shipping --

  • Domestic USA - $4.95
  • Canada - $10.95
  • International - $12.95

Send him an email and he'll send you to the order form.

Sorry, link doesn't work.  Here is the web site:    http://www.endurancecorner.com

I think that is a good idea, and reasonably priced for all that.  The BT plans are great but it would be nice to have plans tailored to my strengths and weaknesses, and to be able to update those plans as I get faster (hopefully not slower)

I'm using this one

Beginner 1/2 Ironman - 20 Weeks - RPE - (Import) (Complete plan quick-view)

Available for: Bronze members
Looks like a good one and I need the extra recovery time right now that a one short swim day gives me. Of course that could change when I stop doing both hockey and kickboxing the same day. I have a pretty good base so can increase some of the distances when I feel extra good.
