Dang it is going to be dark at 7 am in tempe come race day!  I just hope to be sundown..

Shouldn't be too bad.  Don't forget, we don't do the daylight savings thing, so we didn't turn the clocks back!

Yeah we haven't turned the clocks back yet either.  At 7 it is dark.  I remember 2 years ago you could barely see the bridges that were off in the distance.  I recall sundown being around 5:25ish.

Sundown is at racetime 10:23.  Do you think you'll finish in the light or dark? Are you racing the street lights?

Slidell4life and I will be doing the 4000m OWS at Tempe Town Lake tomorrow. I recommend this because it'll give you some practice in the lake. This swim really helped me out last year for IMAZ.  According to the tentative IMAZ schedule, they are opening up the lake for a practice swim Saturday before the race.

The swim went well.  The 4000m swim started at noon yesterday and the water temp was 71 degrees.  The water is a bit clearer compared to last year.  It's still mirky, but I was able to read my watch in the water without any problems.  I swallowed a little bit of the water and I'm not sick this morning... so that's a good sign

Good luck to all of you!!  Enjoy your taper time.

Any tips for online registration for 2011?  This one sells out really quickly, doesn't it?

Get on the website on Monday after the race, check the opening time, but be online right when it opens.  I did this for this year's race and got in, but went back 1/2 an hour later and it was sold out.....good luck!

I am so glad that the water is going to be halfway warm....I had heard that it has been as low as 61 degrees and my ankles don't play nice after an hour plus in cold water (thank you soccer injuries)....

That water was MUCH nicer than I thought. The rumors are hilarious and wrong:
1. The water is freezing-er than last year!  Nope, it's warmer, and perfect.
2. There is debris floating everywhere! None of that.
3. It's so murky!  Yeah, it's pretty cloudy; that rumor was true.

Also, there was no taste or smell to the water, where it's usually a bit fishy. All said, that swim was beyond excellent. Nice work City of Tempe. You don't suck one bit.

Subject: Pre-IMAZ Party at Tribe Multisports..
Hey all, Tribe and I are sponsoring a pre-IMAZ party for Slowtwitch and I just wanted to extend an invitation to this event to all the local BT crew as well:

As many of you IMAZ participants and attendees already know, Tribe Multisport is hosting the 2010 Slowtwitch IMAZ Gathering (Thank you Mr. Bubbles for getting everything started). We’re looking forward to it, and we’ve planned a little event that I hope everyone enjoys.

Fellow Slowtwitcher and financial planner Bryan Dunn (BryanCD) will be co-sponsoring the event. If you haven’t met him at IMAZ or Kona before, you’ll probably recognize his name from seeing it atop race results.

The event is planned for Friday, November 19th from 3-5pm (or later if you want to hang out). The time should give participants ample time to make it to registration, the pro press conference, etc. and then allow you to get back to transition for the athlete dinner. The event will take place in the USAT Certified Multisport Training Center located at Tribe, food, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and samples will be provided.

If you’ve been to Tribe before, we’ve moved and we’re now located in the NE Corner of Indian School and Miller just East of Old Town Scottsdale. We’re still no more than 15 minutes from transition. If you want to ride your bike to the event, it shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes.

As part of the ST gathering, I’m planning a session of “See what the pro’s are riding”. I’ve asked a number of pro triathletes to come with their bikes as they will be racing them on Sunday. You’ll have an opportunity to check ‘em out, talk to the pro’s, take pictures, etc. We’ll also be giving away some really cool stuff, including a Nineteen Frequency Wetsuit (Thanks Steve!). We have also had some T-Shirts made for the event, quantities are limited however.

Here’s the list of confirmed Pro’s:

- Jozsef Major - Cervelo
- Erica Csomor - Cervelo
- Ian Mikelson - Blue
- Matty Reed - Fuji
- Brandon Marsh - Cervelo
- Linsey Corbin – Scott
- Donna Phelan – Cervelo
- Meredith Kessler – Orbea
- Stacey Richardson – Swift
- Kevin Taddonio – Quintana Roo
- Swen Sundberg – Stork

Please RSVP so that we have an idea of how many people to expect (and therefore know how many kegs to buy). Feel free to bring guests, our store is 9,000 sq ft so we should be able to accommodate everyone. Email ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

Question on the Athlete Dinner: I know the little chat after the dinner is required....but how many of you go to the dinner? Just wondering whether I'd be the only one who did not spring for the extra $30-a-pop for family to go.

Do you go?

Do you bring your family?

I suspect that the dinner is somewhat standard across all NA IMs (based on what I've heard).  Having only one full IM under my belt at this point (CdA), I can tell you that had I sprung for several others to get into the banquet (at $30 a head), I would have felt VERY ripped off.  The food was mundane (at best).  Some of the "Biggest Loser" pre-race presentations are pretty cool, but I think you'd be better served by sending the others out with the (x times $30) to a good restaurant.

I'll go to the dinner, but IMHO it certainly wouldn't be in the highlight reels for the trip/experience as a whole for a non-participant.  YMMV....
