If you have any mechanical fixes or help assembling your ride before the big day, I highly recommend checking him out. I have attached his contact information below. By the way, I am not affiliated with him or his shop, just a satisfied customer who is estatic about finding a true perfectionist bike mechanic in the northwest. Happy Training! Member 140 Maple Valley | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I am heading over to CdA this coming weekend to try out the course! I am excited and nervous to give it a go and hoping there will be no snow on the ground. My training partner and I will be riding regardless of the weather (as long as it's safe) since we will be traveling 5 hours to get there. I am curious to hear what people think about the shoulder on 95. Lots of traffic? Other cyclists? Just this weekend a local cyclist and top notch mechanic at my LBS was killed while out riding. I am a little nervous right now!! |

Highly recommend him. |

Expert 1115 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Wow the weather doesn't look great for this weekend, snow/rain depending on the site you look at. That being said, Sunday a buddy and I are planning on running 10 miles of the run course, pretty much to the hill and back. It will be slow paced, he is a 9+ min/mile runner, probably be around 2-230 start time, I will get that figured out today for sure. |

Member 262 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I am sure it varies from year to year but what's the weather 'typically' like around race day? I guess what I really want to know, how much WIND can be expected? Is it typically overcast with an on going chance of rain etc? I did look up the avg monthly temps: end of June-highs hovering around 80 and lows in the mid 50's |

Extreme Veteran 408 Spokane, Wa | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread It's impossible to predict at this point. Any guesses more than a few days out are wild guesses. We've had 90+ and mid 50's with rain on the run. Wind can be pretty bad or non existent. I would venture to say the old course was probably more protected from the wind than this course is going to be. If I had to guess I would say the most likely scenario would be a high of 80 with a low in the 50's. =) |

Guess I will prepare for the opposite. |

Member 140 Maple Valley | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread If anyone is interested in a course report from a MOP first timer here it is. I rode and ran the course this weekend. Ran on saturday as sundays weather was suppose to be better. The run course is beautiful!! It starts out through some neighborhoods with some of it being along the waterfrom with spectuacular old huge homes. Then out to Higgens Point and back, all along the waterfront. It's really breathtaking. If the weather is warm, shade will be at a minumum. The course is pretty flat with one good climb of about .5 miles under I-90 but doeable.
The bike...starts off like the run, about 14 miles out and back from Higgens Point, very very doeable! Then about 22 miles out Hwy95 and 22 back. From a MOP like me this section is rather challenging. The first and biggest hill comes pretty quickly in this section and I measured it as a 1.7 mile climb. I was taking this first attempt on this course easy (and I had run 13 miles the day before and spent the rest of the day in the indoor waterpark with my kids!!) and I was staying at about 8mph on the climb and never had to get out of my seat. The rest of the ride was up and down, up and down, up and down but this was the longest climb. On the way back over the hill I meausred it at 2.1 miles and found it more challenging but again, did not hop out of my saddle but I will probably need to when I am on the second loop. Lots of pretty sceanary and not technical at all. My training partner who came with me has done Cda, Lake Placid, Canada, and Wisconsin. She says this is the best bike course she has ever ridden. Remember for every up there is a down!!!! Oh and one more thing, coming back the headwinds were pretty brutal too, and it was like 32 degrees! YIKES. Hopefully the winds won't be so bad but even with that, if time had permitted (which it didn't since we had a long drive back to Seattle) I was feeling good enough I would have rode this section of the course again. |

Extreme Veteran 408 Spokane, Wa | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey Kristine, I rode the bike course on Sunday as well. To me the worst part is the hill coming back into town. It looks like its going to be at about mile 100 and that's going to be killer. The winds seemed to be blowing the opposite direction from the norm yesterday and you're right it was chilly! What time were you riding ? |

Expert 1115 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I was out running the course yesterday about 245, and as kristine says, the course is really nice and very scenic. Had a very cold headwind most of the return run. I ran a good portion of the course as part of the CDA marathon last year, in May, and remember looking for shade for relief but not finding much. For what it's worth, it was pretty darn hot by mid/late afternoon last June during the IM event. |

The winds seemed to be blowing the opposite direction from the norm yesterday and you're right it was chilly! What time were you riding ? What time were you riding? I saw lots of bikes on saturday when we were running but none on sunday and I was wondering where all the people were!! I was thinking the same thing...that that climb would be at 100 but I will try and stay positive and remember I am almost done!! I also realized yesterday that none of the climbs were so bad that my legs were burning when I was finished with that climb. I found it like childbirth...while climbing it totally sucks but once you are at the top you think, Oh, that wasn't too bad! HaHa. We rode from downtown starting at 7:45 am!!! We were staying up in Hayden at Triple Play and had our bikes on the rack. Before we could ride we spent 10-15 minutes getting the frost off our bikes. It was very very cold!!!! I am curious if 95 is usually that windy? If it's something to expect come race day? It didn't seem awful but would of been easier without it. |

Extreme Veteran 408 Spokane, Wa | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread It sounds like you got out there waaay before I did. I got onto the course at about 1:00ish. I came into it at elder road and rode to about 5 miles short of cda. I can ride from my house and meet up with the course in 22 miles so I'm usually just doing the highway section. Although next week I think I'll at least make it into cda. Hoping the weather continues to warm up. First day of spring and my morning run was in a snow storm! That's life in the pacific northwest though. |

I think i just double capped it and was just fine. |
