i made the switch to latex a couple months ago in my race wheels, then i broke down and put them in my everyday wheels too... i dont think i'll ever go back... ive ridden some crappy roads on them with no problem.

meulen is right though.. there are only a hand full of "bad" spots on the course. you'll be fine on latex tubes.

Quick question for those who have riden the bike course: how risky is using latex tubes for this race given the rough road conditions? (I posted this question in TT as well.)

I did the same thing.  The went on my race bike and then I ended up changing out to 3 other bikes after that.  The ride is sooooo much smoother on latex.  It might actually be helpful on the bumpy roads in Downtown Racine.  I have probably close to 7000 miles between 3 bikes with latex tubes over the last 3 years.  I've never had a flat on them. (knocking on wood!)  The only time I popped one was when I wasn't careful installing them one time.

LOL Cyndi... It worked!  Can you see my racing top a few posts back?

I think I'm in Amy's wave (our bib numbers are certainly close).  Not sure if we will be close at all in any of the race but I'm hoping to be out of the water in 38:00ish (from my 7:38 start time)... pending waves & current etc... I know I can do the bike in well under 3hrs. but will hold back a to save my legs for my worst leg (the run) so I will be purposely over 3hrs... On my snail of a run/walk I'll do a run/walk ratio... probably giving me an average of 11:30/12:00per mi (pending heat) for the 13.1... when I run, I do around 9-9:30per mi but then I walk every 3-4 min so that pulls that down tot he 11-12... which will have me at around 2 1/2 hrs. or more.   All that being said, I'll be slower (I'm guessing, than most)....  I'm going for 6:30ish total... My local friends think I'll be quicker, I say not so much... My over all goal is to still be vertical and feeling well enough to want to celebrate at the end of the race Wink

Leslie

Hi Leslie- Great Birthday Shirt, I love it!  All of the Birthday Wishes while you are on the course should make your race go by fast!

Yes we are in the same wave more than likely, 7:38?  Our age group has 2 waves due to the size this year.  The run is super social too since it's a 2 lap and you see so many people so it will just fly by!

Hey Amy!  Yup, I'm 738 start time too... I think we are wave #13.

DO you happen to know (so I can tell my family) where a good place to park is if they are coming mid-race?  Is there street parking and if so where?  I wasn't sure what roads would be closed off for the race and I want to make it as painless for them as possible to get to the beach area.

Good Friday morning Racine racers... I was curious about where to tell my family to park that are arriving mid-race... My husband will be bringing our children and since it's a LONG race thought to bring them in time for T2 and the run.  Is there street parking...If so where?  Can you give me a couple names of streets or a lot that he will be able to park in?  I'm not sure if there are any roads blocked (for the race) and/or which roads would be closed off... Pls. help as we are not familiar with the area and I'll have him to an intersection in the Garmin.

THANKS!!!

I don't remember the street names up there.  There is some parking near transition on the street but it's usually taken up by racers.  Last year they had locations of parking garages in the race info they emailed us.  So try checking there.  I think they were somewhere on the main street downtown Racine and you can walk to transition from there.

Street parking in the neighborhood is always an option but can get pretty slim.  South of transition along Michigan and Reichert there is a gravel lot that has been open for parking in the past.  If you google map North Beach Racine and make it a satellite view you can actually see the gravel lot.  Don't hold me to it but it's likely it will be open again.  Hope this is helpful.

There are 4-5 addresses for parking listed in the athletes guide. I shared this info with family for the same reasons.

Dont forget to use your $20 coupon at the trek tent. Its in the bag you get. It works on anything. I bought a carbon waterbottle holder and cost me 1.09. Couldnt pass that deal up.

maslowrun, Chad , bib 1561, goal: just finishWe got to town way early and I am so happy I was able to check in and check out the beach and transition area. Swag bag had a supplement shaker bottle thing in it, a shirt, couple sample bars/gels, bunch of coupons and adverts for other races and buisnesses. I ended up buying a polo (fits my employers dress code) and a shirt that has all participant names name on it. (really, really tiny type) but its cool.
