Thoughts and prayers are being sent to the kids and families...

Newtons1st - 2010-10-05 12:14 PM

Well the wife has had a hard few days because of the death of a very close friend. Very sad situation that happend in Victoria TX. Estranged husband kicks in apartment door at 3:00 am and kills her and them Him. Luckily the 16 yo daughter made it out. They have a 10 yo son together also. My wife is distrought over how the kids will cope. Sorry to bring up a sad situation in here but I was looking for help in helping out the wife. Not sure what else I can do/say to make her fell any better.

Sad situation.  I don't know there is anything you can say Todd to help your wife.  Just be there for her and listen to her.  She'll give you the clues as to what she needs you to do.

Well back to a normal "Todd" type situations. I think I have a small case of frost bite on my leg. So I iced my calf the Tuesday like I usually do after a run. Well the freezer was set to its coldest level earlier since I was working on it. Had to replace a fan and motor in the back. So the usual reusable pack was colder than normal. I got comfy and almost dozed off with my calf resting on it. About 25 minutes. When I got done my skin was weird looking and felt strange. It was hard in some spots. ie frozen. So after it warmed up I had what felt like a burn. So now I had a small bit of frost bite.

Ha! Todd, I've done the same thing. I ice my knees and various aching body parts a lot. In fact, I think there are more reusable freezer packs and frozen water bottles than actual food in the freezer. A couple times part of the reusable pack was in direct contact with skin too long and I've gotten freezer burn. The skin initially is really red then turns dark just like a burn. It eventually fades. I actually have one on my left knee right know and both achilles.

Wow, no pressure or anything.    Give me time to get a few coffee's in and I'll get the race report out, results are finally posted.  I'm off today so I'll just be holding down the couch for the most part.

Anderson which is 20 minutes from Clemson just got a new Olympic and HIM for next year.  James and I are looking at doing our masters work here so it would be a perfect race for me.  We've both got our sights set on a half marathon in April given that my running continues to be shin splint pain free so the only question now is should I do the HIM or the Olympic?? They are both in October.  Any suggestions/recommendations?

IMO there is a huge difference between an Olympic and a HIM, especially with the run.  As of right now you have time to train for either, but it's all on if you can get comfortable on the bike for the long rides and get those long runs in injury free.  I'd say wait until April and see how your half marathon goes then decide.  Train like you might do the HIM, get the swim, bike, and runs in and if it is going well and your enjoying the running and the biking and you think you have the time to commit to an HIM then by all means go for it.  But, an Olympic is no cake walk and still requires a fair amount of training to do well and not make it a suffer fest.  I'd go HIM cause I really like the training for an HIM.  So it's all down to what kind of time/volume your comfortable putting in.

I would wait as well. Plus once your Masters work really gets going you might be busier than you think.

I myself have decided not to do a HIM next year. I thought my run at the lasy OLY was so bad I dont want to move up till I have done well at a OLY race. But thats just me.

If any of you win the lottery in the next few weeks just know my bday is right around the corner. I was looking at the Fuji bike line since JC got his new bike and saw this. My new favorite bike.

I don't have a HIM under my belt yet but I can tell you from completing an OLY and seeing the training Justin / Keri and others have done to prepare for a HIM ...it's a lot tougher to prepare for a HIM.  I agree with Kim that you should train hard for your half mary, stay injury free and re-evaluate from there.  If you are getting the workouts in and can balance the training with life ....GO FOR THE HIM!!! If not, take one step at a time and get your OLY first.  Chances are with a 1st time race it won't sell out until you are closer to race day so you will have time to make your decision.

I wouldn't want that bike.  It's way to flashy and everyone would see me and realize just how slow I really am.  Give me one that blends in please.

I want it!!  *Runs off to buy lottery ticket*

Of course if I won the lottery things like paying of my students loans, paying for grad school and getting a place to live for me and james would probably have to come before the bike.  And right now I love Bella too much to want to upgrade but it is very pretty!
