Subject: RE: OBX Marathon. Crushed it! They had a group at 8:35 for a 3:45 marathon. I think they weren't running true to pace. After the half you get on a long straight away. There is a little pitch in the road but I should have been able to see the pacer sign from at least a 1/4 mile if not more, and my surge I should have seen them or caught them. I didn't ask anyone after the race but I suspect they run faster. I couldn't see them after the first 2 miles and I was running 8:36 so I should have guessed they were ahead of schedule.
I took Monday and Tuesday off. Tuesday I got a 90 minute massage and I have been feeling great since. I went out for 5 yesterday, and will run again on Friday and then a medium long run this weekend (8-13 ) depending on what by buddy is doing. He is training for a race in December and I may try to keep him company for a few easy miles. Next week I will start regular training. I discussed with a few marathoners in my run club and they thought this was fine. I feel great but I also worry about giving my body enough time to recover. I think at 40 we have a double edge sword, longer to recover, and we lose fitness faster. With this week as a light one. I will have 6 weeks and a taper for run disney half and full. My wife wants a PR for her Disney half which means I will need to run at least a 1:54 for the half, but I am guess she wants better than a 20 second PR. I have no expectations for the full other than for it to not take me all day.
have to plan for next season soon too... |
