OMG I just saw Spokes' new avatar.

I think his man card is now permanently revoked.

Not just a hula skirt, a PINK one!!!!

don't show Max he might get jealous....

Hey it was a WORK picnic, and the big boss wore one... although I was kind of commandeered by Leilani (if you look at the Sunday blog entry, she's the lady in the orange wrap) who brought the skirts (she's Hawaiian) to the party.

Besides, I like Pink. Cool

Why Scotty pup.

I like.

WOOF.

Thank you! Um, I think.

I really didn't follow the hula dance rules much. I just jumped around like I was slam dancing, except without the, um, slam.

There are rules to company-picnic hula?

You look like you're reaching out to grab an Amazon's ... uh ... sword and shield.

Hey, whatever it takes. I'm TOUGH.

Speaking of tough, what do you think of 110 miles plus 11,000' of climbing in September?

I think it's kewl. Where do I sign up? Do I get to, uh, support you beforehand?

Morning TAN!

I had a completely awesome weekend.  So fun and relaxing.

Easy bike ride, lounging by the pool, dinner with the Tampa Mafia on Saturday
Intense and then playing at the water park on Sunday

Now it's time to turn the attention to Ironman training.

During a conversation with HR this morning I was told I can technically be considered a minority. That's a first. Their definition of minority is pretty wide.

Hrm... can't afford that now. Not after all the money spent on restaurants and my wife's perennials binge on saturday.

That's so tempting. I want to get a new set of pedals to replace the SPD's I've got on my bike, but I haven't done enough research. What's the opinion on these pedals?

I have LOOK Keo Classics on my bike... and the LOOK cleat is a vast improvement over SPDs that I had before. With SPDs, your feet feel nailed to the bike pedals.

The cleat is much bigger, so you have more power transfer. Now, some people really like Speedplays, and if you have knee issues, those are great pedals. The downside is with Speedplays, the cleat mechanism is actually on the bottom of your shoe rather than on the bike itself... and if you get any mud/debris/etc. in there, the cleat won't engage. In a race, that's not a good thing.

With the LOOKS, if you get some mud or something while running out of transition on your shoe, you simply can wipe off with the pedals and get going. I know you can because I did a century ride where it had been raining the week before, and when I stopped at the rest stops, I got mud on the bottom of my shoes. No problem clipping in.

Fair enough. Ordered a set. You can always sell them if you don't like them, right?

Yep.  And I won't have to worry about having the right shoe with the right bike now (my roadie has Keos too).

Makes me glad I didn't buy them at Performance earlier this week.

I've been using the SPD pedals because they came with my bike. I'm looking into getting a new bike though and when I do I want to switch over to Look and give them a try.
