Artemis - 2008-06-16 8:28 AM I <3 chainlove. I got Look Keo carbon pedals for $119. They're like $260 at Performance. Yeah!!
That's so tempting. I want to get a new set of pedals to replace the SPD's I've got on my bike, but I haven't done enough research. What's the opinion on these pedals?
I have LOOK Keo Classics on my bike... and the LOOK cleat is a vast improvement over SPDs that I had before. With SPDs, your feet feel nailed to the bike pedals.
The cleat is much bigger, so you have more power transfer. Now, some people really like Speedplays, and if you have knee issues, those are great pedals. The downside is with Speedplays, the cleat mechanism is actually on the bottom of your shoe rather than on the bike itself... and if you get any mud/debris/etc. in there, the cleat won't engage. In a race, that's not a good thing.
With the LOOKS, if you get some mud or something while running out of transition on your shoe, you simply can wipe off with the pedals and get going. I know you can because I did a century ride where it had been raining the week before, and when I stopped at the rest stops, I got mud on the bottom of my shoes. No problem clipping in.
Fair enough. Ordered a set. You can always sell them if you don't like them, right?
