New user 3 Milwaukee | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hello-
2 friends and myself are doing IM Louisville this year. For 2 of us, it's our first Iron Man, for the thrid guys, he's a Madison vet. Just wondering about the course. I've heard conflicting things. Is it flat or hilly? How's the current in the river? We are planing to come down May 14-18 for training (mainly the bike course) if anybody elkse is going to be around, maybe we could hook up and put some miles in. |

The trainer is ok when you need it but nothing beats the road. Need some foot covers though. I am going to hit the IM bike course a couple of times before the race I will look for you guys in may. Hope that workouts/training are going well. I had my best workout since pre-vacation (almost 2 weeks ago now) last night! Was on the bike with the IM 25th Anniversary DVD on the tv...what great motivation! congrats, happy to hear you have gotten back into the groove. IM 25th anniversary ws 2003 right? I have all of them but 2002, 2003, 2004 but I want to get them asap. You can watch 2002 and 2004 online at UniversalSports.com. Happy training Yeah it's 2003. It's the best because there's almost 45 minutes prior to the actual race coverage where they talk about some of the "recognizable" IM stories...Dick and Ricky Hoyt, Marc Herremans, etc. etc. I just recently purchased the entire IM DVD collection and it was totally worth it. The best part about it is that it gives you some extra motivation on those days when you really need it.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the whole thing? |

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the whole thing? It was around $350...so it was pretty steep but I think as a motivational tool it has paid for itself. Edited by jboeve 2009-03-16 8:52 AM |

If you are interested in borrowing any of the DVD's let me know and we can work something out. I am all over the place for work usually so if you wanted to "try before you buy" or "try and record" if you have that technology...either way. |

Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm officially starting on April 13. I'm doing the LoneStar HIM on 4/5, then taking a recovery week before shifting into gear. Not sure what to think about LoneStar, as I have not been swimming much at all, and the biking is just starting to get ramped up. I figure it'll be a good training day if nothing else. The rumor in Texas is that it's a great event. |

Champion 10157 Alabama | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm still riding the bench and unable to train due to a herniated C7 cervical disc. 6 weeks of nothing so far and no sign of healing yet. I went in for a second epidural steroid injection yesterday. If after another 3 weeks there is no sign of recovery, I'm destined for surgery. If that happens, I might be a DNS for IMKY. God, y'all have no idea how hard it was to write that last sentence. I've been running, swimming and biking for over 12 years. I have never blanked for 6 weeks....I don't even think I've gone 3 weeks without running in the last 12 years. It's not just about doing triathlons, it's a lifestyle. And IMKY is not just a race for me, it's a social event that I share with you fine folks during the year that culminates is a weekend celebration, pre-race dinner, practice swim...and oh yeah, a long race on Sunday that we all do together...it's about seeing BTers on the course with a smile and high-five and running the last mile with speedy BTers who come back to run with and encourage us BOPers. Well, I'm an eternal optimist and still have hopes of recovery and being able to make it to the starting line in Louisville. I hate posting negative/downer posts in our BT-IMKY thread but I didn't want to wait till July to let y'll know my 'issue'. Anyway, I'm living my training life vicariously thru you guys so get your arses out there and train, train, train! And win one for the Gipper.....:-) ~Mike |

Veteran 269 Macon, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I am 5 years post op form a 2 level cervicl fusion (4-5,5-6). I'm 37 years old and my advice is DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO AVOID SURGERY! There are artificial discs now that do not require solid bone fusion. Once you fuse the levels together there is no turning back and you are going to have trouble with the levels above and below the fusion. Let me know if you want to talk further - I have a wealth of "hands on experience with this one"! Good luck |
