Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread lesleyann - 2009-09-03 5:08 AM dido on the tiredness! I was in such a funk yesterday, when i went to the hairdresser I had her do something different for the first time in forever. Well, now I am a brunette. WTF!! It looks pretty bad. I was just so disgusted with myself. I am up a few pounds, my hair looked like dried out straw from all the swimming, and i was so guilty for missing my swim. I will make it up today because today was a rest day anyway. Gotta get it together! Last month when I went to my hairdresser she tried to talk me into growing my hair out. Last year I finally cut off my pony tail and now have a pixie. The hairdresser thinks it would look good a little bit longer. I told her I was not going to even think about growing my hair out until November. She didnt understand why I didn't have "time" to fix my hair in the morning. I kept telling her I had a triathlon in November and hair was the last thing on my list right now. When we were checking out she asked me (I thought Id already told her) which triathlon I was doing. So I said Ironman Florida. She gets this stunned look on her face and says - Like the Ironman in Hawaii? Yeah- that would be the one. Hopefully she now understands why I don't have time (or the desire) to grow my hair out right now. LOL |

Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Why am I racing a sprint this weekend? You guys and gals are looking great on the training, hope to see you out in PCB in November! Got my email as well. I'm so excited about being there to volunteer and watch everyone after reading about all the training! Keep up the good work guys and gals.Me too! I am very excited to return to IMFL and, this time, be part of the wonderful "concierge" service I experienced as an athlete last year. |

Extreme Veteran 360 Jacksonville, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hello! Just started reading this thread. This will be my 2nd attempt at an IM - I competed this past weekend in IM-Louisville, but had a brutal race. DNF'd at mile 18 on the run. Louisville is a really hilly track - looking forward to the flats in PCB. Much more like where I live (Jax, FL) |

Member 41 Tampa,Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I thinking about Clermont HIM also. Went up and road up there about 3 weeks ago. Looks like it would be a very challenging course. Those hills are a killer (Sugar loaf!!). Last year I did Macon HIM and swore I would never do hills again. But you know how that goes.. |

Veteran 107 Virginia | Subject: Full Distance Aqua Bike or HIM A have a multi part question for any experienced Ironmen racers out there. A little background: I have done plenty of sprint and olympic races, but never anything longer. My training is going well, I feel comfortable with completing the distances, I am currently up to 100 miles on long rides and 16 miles on my runs with my plan getting me three 20 mile runs before a taper for IMFL. On the weekend of Sept 26/27 I have two race options to choose from: The Duke Liver Half or The Chesapeake Man Aqua Velo. My question is which would be better prep for IMFL? I have heard that a half to a full are two diffent races and that mentally it is tough to imagine doing the distance 2x as your pacing is different. But then not sure how the swim and bike without the run would translate either? Or should I save my entry fees and travel money and just make it a long training weekend instead? Who knew there would be so many things to think about!! Geez I like sprints, much simpler.....you sign up, you train, you show up that morning and you go as hard as you can! Counting down the days!

I asked the same question here ... http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=152402&posts=8#M2062903 and everyone who responded said to do the Aqua Bike, so I am doing that on Sept 19 instead of another HIM. I have 2 HIMs under my belt and feel very comfortable with that distance. I wanted to mentally know exactly where I will be on race day after the swim and the bike and I want to practice pacing and nutrition, so I chose the AB. I would have done both if I had the travel $$ and the races were spaced apart a bit better. |

Hey bro, I am doing Duke and also IMFL. Did Duke last year, so wanted to see where I am compared to last year. I think Duke is a much differnet course than IMFL will be....Duke "offers" some hills on the bike and a couple killer hills on the run that you hit twice. If you decide to do Duke let me know and I'd be happy to fill you in. |

Member 41 Tampa,Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread When I did the Macon HIM they had a bunch of tornados whip thru there a couple of weeks prior to the event. No shade and it was 96 degrees and lack of real training made for as real painful long HIM. I swore I would never do one again. Then a couple of month later I want to do a Full Ironman, go figure. |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Anne- I'll see you at Redman, though I am doing the HIM. I'm good with the bike right now and need to see how my running off the bike is feeling, so putting it all together in the 3 is what I'm looking to get out of it. Interested in seeing what doing a HIM with very tiny taper (if any) feels like, but excited too as I know that the distances won't demolish me either. |

Veteran 169 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread What actual distance does the Aqua velo consist of? Its so wierd that I have a taper for my 1/2 Ironman on Sept 12th this weekend and am doing a 40 mile bike on Saturday with short brick run and 10 mile run on Sunday...and IT SEEMS so SHORT and REFRESHING....LOL |

Veteran 107 Virginia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Thanks for all the feedback. I am signing up for Chesapeakeman AquaVelo. I also convinced a training buddy of mine who was already signed up for Naylors Beach Oly the next day to do it with me, so I guess in fairness I will do Naylors with him on Sunday. (I got a flat on that course last year, so I owe it one!)

New user 8 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I also just finished IM Louisville. Sorry about the DNF. I think Florida will do you right. I live in hot, flat South Ga. and I am looking forward to seeing what I can do on the bike. It will be interesting to see if I have anything in the tank when IM FL comes around. Right now I'm tired as expected. Plan to take 2 weeks off, then get back in the saddle. Not looking forward to the ocean swim. If ANYONE is going to PC for a practice swim, please let me know. |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Sorry if this question has already been answered. What is the closest airport to Panama City? Does Southwest fly anywhere near Panama City? Hubby and son may fly out instead of driving. How is everyone's weekend going? I had a long training day today. Sprint tri tomorrow morning with a 16 mile run tomorrow. I'm probably going to run home from the race since it is close to our house. I'm looking forward to having Monday off as a rest day. |

I flew to Pensacola when I volunteered last year. It's about a 2 hour drive. But not too bad. Rene- if you don't have a driving crew, and want to caravan to PCB, let me know. I plan on driving to Houston and spending the night with friends on Tuesday night, and then heading fo FL on Wed...so we could always link up for the drive. |

Ft Walton Beach (VPS) also has an airport...closer than Pensacola. Not sure if Southwest files in there. |
