Found this from your 2009 B2B race report. it's a classic!

"First I remembered one of those sage IM sayings. IM is like wrestling a gorilla. You don't get to take a break when you are tired. You rest when he is tired. I started muttering to myself that the f'ing gorilla isn't tired."

I'm going to keep this in mind when those headwinds kick up, as I'm sure they will at some point.

I'm in for Thursday AM too. How is everyone getting back to Blockade Runner after the swim?

TriBee - 2011-10-24 8:46 AM

Yes, I'm trying to pull a couple of folks together for Thursday am swim starting at 7:30 from Blockade Runner to finish.

I don't want to do that long of a swim day before the race. Let me know if your'e interested.

AK.... have someone park in TI across the street from swim finish or stash shoes there and walk back it's not far just don't make the mistake of walking to far barefoot before the race.

Thursday am swimmers--we can do a shuttle, leave a car at the finish and drive all back to Blockade.

Shuttle would be great. But the plan will still be to meet at Blockade before 7:30, yes?

For HIM, do athletes set up their T1 with anything (shoes, helmet, etc) aside from the bike , or does that all go into the T1 Change Bag? The guide implies the latter, though I am not sure what purpose that serves when we're not using the changing tent. I know swim gear goes into the bag for delivery to T2, but it seems easier to have the bike equipment laid out and ready to go rather than stuffed in a bag.

I'm curious about this re: the IM, too.  Are we allowed to set up anything (helmet, sunglasses) on our bikes or does everything HAVE to go in the T1 bag?

I'm guessing we can do either/both?

The two years I did the half I had my shoes clipped in and helmet and shades on the aerobars. It was implied but not explicitly against what was written in the handbook.

The full is different -- Everything has to be in the bags. Having said that, there will probably be folks with their helmets, etc. on their bikes and ready to go. I've never heard of anyone getting a penalty but I do know you're not supposed to.

For those of you that have received your packet, what was included? I still have not received mine yet. Is it just a copy of the file you can download?

Mine arrived in Central Ohio on Saturday in the mail.  It is a nice "booklet" printout of exactly what is in the download.  The cover is heavier paper stock and all of the pages are 17" x 11" folded and stapled to make the booklet.

That is exactly how it arrived, no manila folder, nothing else, just the 8.5x11 booklet.  It was nicer than I thought it would be.

Hope that helps!

The weather forcast I just read has changed to 60 percent chance of rain low of 42 high of 62.  Mother Nature needs to know that I am packed and the rain is not in my race plan.  Time to be adaptive. Good thing is that forcasts 5 days out tend not to accurate.

Got my race book today in the upstate of South Carolina

If I recall correctly they were just kitchen garbage bags with the drawstring.  I had no issues with room on race day.

For the Thursday AM swimmers, are we going to meet at the Blockade Runner or at the T1 area (so that somebody can leave their car there)?

A thick permanent marker is useful for writing your bib # on white bags for easier ID.

Don't forget you to pack large majic markers to put your numbers all over the plastic bag.  I even used 2" wide masking tape and wrote my bib # on it, then put on the bags too.

Might also want to consider packing T stuff inside large zip bags for a couple of reasons: 1) might rain overnight, and there is always condensation, so keeps it from getting wet; 2) when you dump your bag in T, stuff stays together instead of flying all over the place; and 3) if the bag splits it keeps your stuff together

I have some 2 gallon size zip lock bags that I have labeled T1, #60, Kizer (and so on) and started to shove stuff into.

It looks like a few people had posted this question and no had answered it yet, but I'll throw it out here again...does anyone have any details on the online tracking they claim they're going to offer?  I didn't see any reference to it in the race packet.
