This is an old photo from 09, but my goal is to get back in that shape. I lost 55lbs and have put 30 of it back on over the last couple years. I'm heading in the right direction again though.

Julia- you can still use the url from facebook. You just have to click "view image" before "view image info" then get the url. I was just checking to see if it worked.

i see its a bit cooler in the shade.  where's that pic of tracy, trev?

No shame here in having nipples! You've got some too Fatty. I have since given up the lighter colors though. A certain post race pic I was a bit... uh, unadjusted, crooked nipples are not such a good look, lol.

GrapeJuice - 2012-04-11 10:25 AM Impromptu weekend trip in San Fran caused by hurricane Irene cancelling our flight from San fran to Philidelphia on the way home from South Korea. This was a pic I took this summer while biking over the Golden Gate bridge, had a great time. San Fran is ridiculously hilly!

Bridge?  What bridge.

Keep on training Andre, and keep the pics coming.  I don't know about the others, but I'm inspired.

SSMinnow - 2012-04-11 6:54 AM While someone is lazing in Hawaii, others are thinking about RACING!!!!  I know of at least two people toeing the line this weekend.  Are there others?  Raise your hands high and tell us about your strategy!!!

I'm going to volunteer at a local race.  I will be helping with registration and then running for FREE!!

It's the Winona Lake Trail Runs (10mi, 30mi, & 50mi).  I'll be doing the 10mi. option as a training run.  I will admit, I actually considered giving the 30mi. a try and then reminded myself that I'm not ready yet and I shouldn't do stupid stuff just because it sounds like fun.  I have a trail half marathon on April 28.  I know one person running the 30mi. and another person doing the 50mi.  Should be fun to rub shoulders with these ultra runners!!

no rankings... except maybe Birdy and Fatty. ha   Everyone appears as I either remembered them or as I scrolled through the thousands of posts to find names... I edited my original post and added names.

Girls on top... NICE!   yea, sure I planned it that way

I seem to be going against the group here but personally I did my IM training (under the direction of a coach) with a long run/bike weekend schedule and it worked fine.  It was designed that way b/c that is what worked for my family commitments.  He made sure that my week day workouts were very goal specific (for examples, brick sessions, form drills, tempo runs) and then the weekend was long slow endurance runs.  To me it made sense b/c on race day you will be running on tired legs so might as well learned how to do it.

We did have conversations about what was more important, the bike or the run. Depending on which was the more critical goal (the bike goal or the run speed/distance) then I would do that event on Saturday.   And of course those complete "day off" rest days were golden.  I got one a month with and followed a 3 week build one week recover schedule.

I guess the point is it will be finding a balance with your fitness goals and your personal schedule, but be sure to incorporate proper build/recovery and rest days are mandatory!!!  AND BE SURE TO PROPERLY HYDRATE AT ALL TIMES AND EAT PROTEIN WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF A WORKOUT!!!!

i did too.  and maybe that's why i didn't do fine!!!!!    glad to hear about the run last night!!!

Gah! All this talk of breaking up the long bike and long run have me second guessing the plan...  again.  I'm using Fink (intermediate) but, as you know I'm not a strong runner, feel I need more than the plan dictates.  I know most used a coach (which is not in the budget) but would you mind sharing what your long runs maxed out as?  Fink has only one 2 hr run in the 10 week build (most are 1:15 hr) and one 3 hr run in the 10 week peak (most 2 hr). Just curious. Thinking about adding 15-30 min to a couple runs a week. thoughts?

Also, for those who have read CLEAN (roni and suzy, anyone else?) I've been mostly following his elimination diet but would love to try the "detox".  Thoughts about training while following that diet?

Christina - I too am a weak runner so I'll share my experience.   The shorter mid week runs were the key for building my run strength.  During my week day runs I was building strength and skills through frequency of runs, not distances.   My long runs were to teach me how to hold the form when I fatigued, what walk/run combo worked for me, nutrition testing, etc.   Personally the long weekend runs did more to strengthen my mental discipline on how to handle the long hours when you are tired.

For distance break downs the mid week runs were usually 3-7 miles at the most 3x a week and then the weekend runs were gradual build up to 2 20milers at the end (end defined as the last month before taper).  For the last 3 months before the race I did a lot of 10-15 mile runs on the weekends but kept the mid week runs under 5 miles.

My schedule didn't build bike and run together, rather it switched back and forth.  It was better to focus on building the run and then holding that while I build the bike - hold - switch - etc.   Therefore as long as base held I didn't loose any running fitness.

The greatest lesson I learned was how well base building tranlated into distance at the end.   My reasoning before was if I'm going to run 13.1 miles then I need to have lots of 10+ mile runs. Not true.   It took me 5 years to really deep down learn that and believe it.

I have lots of catching up to do in this thread! But if Andre keeps posting pictures, I will check back more often!

Good luck racers! Do we have any Boston runners? Not racing this weekend, but I do have a running time trial with my HIM training group tomorrow night. I've never done one of those before and I'm actually looking forward to it!

I feel like runnin'... my strategy is to channel my inner Forrest and just run...hopefully find that 'zone' and cruise.  My first attempt at anything past 26.2, so I have no expectations of 'racing'.  First two goals... have fun with it & finish!  If I can somehow finish around the 4:30 mark I would be super pumped.  I have been feeling really good between the 8:00-8:30 pace, so I am excited to see what Saturday brings.

Take a few days to recover and then it's time to get serious about my third and FINAL trip to Lubbock for the Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3 (fatty's favorite!)

final... LOL!!!   i looked at flights last week.  nothing direct from atlanta to lubbock and prices are so high, thankfully.

Thanks, Tracy.  The bolded is exactly what I'm struggling with.  It does seem so counter intuitive. My HIM plan I used last year had me doing >56 mi bike and >13 mi on the run for weeks leading up to race day.  I know you can't do so for IM but still hard to make that transition.

Welcome, Jeremy.  Never met a firefighter I didn't like (and that's saying something since I had 4 storm into my bathroom just as I gave birth to my daughter!) .  Great pic with Emma.  I'm trying to convince my 5 yo son to do his first miler in 2 weeks.  I think I'm more excited than he is.

I am.  Doing a Sprint in Virginia.  Really doing it because I convinced a close friend to get into tris and this is his first.  So I am doing it to do it with him. Strategy is to focus on form on the swim, push the bike, and keep as close to my recent 5k run pace as I can.  Will be great to see my friend finish -- it has been quite a journey for him, which has involved losing 30 pounds.

Looking forward to hearing about our Boston runners' strategies and results.

Pretty excited to see the number of MG'ers racing!!

I'll be toeing the line at the Vetfest Half marathon in honor of my WWII father (RIP) again this year. Course is out towards the Baraboo bluffs so crazy hilly, but they have veterans from several of the wars lining up at some of the mile markers to keep us going.

Goal is to beat last year, but will be working on keeping myself just below LT based on RPE.  Totally blind.  I've been told not to go crazy until after I have my stress test next week.  Doctor actually told me to keep my HR under 130bpm.  Really? Apparently no one wants to see me go into cardiac arrest on the course.

130????  Perhaps it is my current level of conditioning, but I get my heart rate higher than that just looking at the picture of the burger and beer pasted a page or two ago.  How can your doctor honestly think you can keep your HR under 130?
