I didn't buy anything, but I did complete the 1/2 distance at Rev 3 in Cedar Point on Sunday. It was a BRUTAL day. 20-25 mph winds the whole race. The swim was so choppy you couldn't see anything and the bike was a hurricane-like disaster. However, it definitely helped with mental toughness. My goal for the day was IM practice, not really to race, so I can't really complain. The best part was, as hard as the conditions were, I got done and thought, "Sure, I could do that again." This weekend is going to a real test- 1.5 hour swim and 20 mile run on Saturday and a 100 mile bike and 3 mile run on Sunday. 7 1/2 weeks to go!

Good luck with your prep. I did the Full Rev on sunday and the Bike was brutal. Cant wait to get back to IM Florida. I did it in 2011 and I will be there this year to sign up for next year.

Looking at this picture makes me want to go swimming in that lovely water!

Excited?  Me?

Thanks for the info, Great picture. I think I will bring the beach cruiser and then either walk or ride

Or you can do like I am this year and do IMMT and IMFL in the same year, I'll let you know how good of an idea it is on Nov 3!

A tough interval ride today along the coast where I live (very gusty winds) got me thinking, how are the winds usally in PCB for the race. As I said I live by a beach and understand conditions can change pretty drastically, but what should I expect. Is the course usually headwind out/ tailwind back, vice versa?

If I recall correctly, I think the wind was semi behind us for the first part of the last year's race. A few miles after Special Needs there is a 20ish mile stretch headed west and there was a headwind. might have been coming a bit from the left (10:00ish), but in your face. Then as you turn left/south on the final leg into PCB, the headwind was there too, but probably coming from 2:00ish. the headwind wasn't too strong, but it was there.

Not sure how the wind has been in other years, so perhaps others can chime in.

Could be almost anything.  they changed the course about 3 years ago.  I will say the part along the beach for the first 10 ish and last 10ish miles you can get some crazy cross winds off the beach esp where the wind whips under the condos along the water.  I usually hope for head wind the first half and tail on the way home

I was at IMMT this year volunteering as a finish line catcher from about 5pm to midnight - and that was such a great experience! It was great to see people cross the finish line and achieve their goals. If you ever want to volunteer at an IM race, that is the place to be. BTW, what was your time? I might have seen you at the finish line?!?!

I'm really looking forward to racing MT next year. Good luck at IMFL.

I came in around 7:30pm, so you were definitely there. Official time was 12h47m, during the power outage. Having Mike Reilly trigger the crowd chanting "You ... Are ... An Ironman !" at the finish line, that was soooo coool.

Old friend of mine was a catcher aswell on the first shift, 2 to 6pm, and she came back to "catch" me when i finished.

Sorry guys for hijacking. Enough about Mont-Tremblant, this place is about IM FLORIDA !

for all you Florida vets, here are some questions:

what are some good italian places to eat at around the area?
Is there a secret parking area close to transition I can park at on race day? - at Arizona there was a garage near transition which was perfect and easy walk to transtion. just curious. Im staying about 10 minutes away from the host hotel.

They say that prevailing winds are out of the south / Southwest, which means that the long road back in is into the wind, with a cross wind in the last few miles along the beach, like Sue said.

I've raced it three times, and twice that was the case, but the winds were 5-10 mph, not much really.  The other time there was a stiff North wind in our face going out, which shifted and seemed to me to be in our face all day long.

As long as we're talking weather it can be real nice, with highs in the 70's or pretty darn chilly.  You might think about that as you're planning what to wear, and especially what to put in special needs bags.  In 2010, people were wearing trash bags from the aide stations to try to keep warm and cut the wind.

I learned to buy a 'throw-away' sweat shirt from Walmart ($5) for run special needs.

No secret parking spots, but if you park along the golf course you will get towed....quite an industry they have going. I met one family that was towed twice in the same day one year at IMFL. Watch out for the no parking signs even if others are ignoring them.

Best advice is to walk and not try to park. You can park at Walmart and there is shuttle but depending on your hotel/condo it may be better just to walk.

PCB has big capacity for spring and summer and it is almost vacant in November Some restaurants will be closed but most are open with plenty of capacity.

The Wal-Mart parking lot is about 1/3(ish) mile away from the start, so it's very convenient and there is no risk of being towed. The buses on race morning are very efficient, so they help save your legs for the race. They take you right to Special Needs dropoff and from there its a short walk to the start/T1. BTW, the buses only run on race day.

There is a sandy lot near the Boardwalk Hotel, but I assume that's for the homes/condos right on the beach. I saw some folks park there, but also saw some needing to be pushed out afterwards because of the sand. So, I would stick to the Walmart.

I'm staying at the Boardwalk. Since the parking lot will be used for transition, does anyone know where guests of the hotel park?

Ok- then.

I have an RV and drive up to PCB (4 times and counting) and stay at Campers Inn directly across from Club La Vela at the turn to the turn around or finish line.

Now if I ever get rid of the RV I will start renting a tent site for at least for the day of the race (I'm too old (spoiled?) for tent camping but for the parking spot). it's about 22 bucks and is a secure parking spot.

Every year I see Iron folks set up tents to stay and operate out of (some have tents for the bikes so they may sell out of spaces early, I rent next years spot when I show up every year.

We are driving our RV down from NY and staying there.  I was hoping it was close to the run turn around, it looked like it was on the map but I don't remember it from 2010.  I also have a condo at Laketown for the in laws coming up from Winter Haven.

This is right at the turn around near the finish. The only issue is the stickers in the grass around there - never go bare foot and if you have dogs going with you they will not be happy campers.

Thats not good, the reason we stay in the RV is to bring the dog along.  Thanks for the heads up, is it through out the entire park?

Yeah it's tough and the things even stick to your slippas`(hawaiian for flip-flops) and if you don't brush them off they get throughout the RV, we keep a pair of gloves by the door to brush them off. If you stick to the roads inside the the park and cross the street there is a beach access sand strip where we walk our pups (it's kind of fenced so we can take them off leash but keep them close). it works and the stickers are not a show stopper just a pain.

Hey everyone. How the heck are ya? I've spent the day catching up on this thread. Did something dumb and went out and got a job. Completely too far away from my house, and with 4 young kids in my house, I've been busy and my training has been lousy. My logs are not up to date, but it pretty much sums up what I've been doing.... a whole lot of nothing.

Looks like most everyone is doing well. Keep it up and I'll see you all soon.

Unfortunately, my new job hasn't worked out. I went back to teaching. 5th Grade, close to inner city Memphis. Kids are bad, but that was expected. Admin is a whole different form of bad. Coming home each evening frustrated and completely fried. Even with all that I would have stayed.

But, the real reason I'm checking out is that the school is an hour from my home. This means my kids, 9,7,6, and 2 are in before and after school care from 7am till 5pm or later. The long hours are taking a large toll on our family. I put the little one in school early trying to get back into the classroom but it's just too long of a day for her. My wife's new job takes her away for a few days at a time more often than we had thought so we've had to enlist the neighbors to help out after after-school care. It's just too much for them and us. I'm lucky to be in the position to not work and focus on our family. Our happiness is more important.

Three weeks and I'll be unemployed again.....but it's a good thing. I'm much happier knowing it's almost over.

ok vets with the weather changing I went for a ride on Saturday and it was about 59 degrees, so i wore gloves on the ride, so it got me wondering if I would need gloves for Florida. At Arizona I did wear gloves on the bike for the first 30 minutes...thoughts? Is it real cold after you get out of the water?
