Man, I wore shorts I have worn many times including a marathon but I got chaffed in the strangest of ways! It's more like...bite marks. They are deep and small (vs the bigger, surface rubs that normal chafe looks like) Anyway I have one on my upper thigh and one of my azz cheek. WT actual F?

That is strange. Maybe it wasn't the shorts? I dunno.

I tried my Strider shorts for my long run on Saturday. Fail. Major ride up-age.

Don't do it, it's a trick. She uses the info to cracking your online bank account and clean you out. It's the only way she can feed her chamois cream and energy gel habit :P

For those of you who have seen my post in TT, would you actually bring it up to the person who did it?

What if that person happened to be very high profile in the running community?

The "big" races have a pacer for the elites, but it's fair to all. In the absence of a pacer they have each other to figure pace.

If she wanted a pacer then the pacer should have signed up and done the whole race, just as some here have paced a friend. Only doing part of the race seems to make it "more wrong" because the racer has the benefit of a pacer who has a fresh set of legs, clear mind etc.

You working with another racer for mutual benefit seems like a whole different animal than this person having a pacer jump in for those tough miles.  As for them being high profile, all the more reason not to do it. Would I bring it up to them? I've read so many reports here on BT about when the BTer confronted someone and got a "pound sand" type response. Maybe I would if I thought it would do any good.

In every IM that I've done, I've seen people who are not racing running with people who are racing.  I'm not sure that they were pacing, exactly, but "supporting."  Is this within the rules?  No.  Do organizers ever do anything about it?  Rarely.  Of course we are talking age groupers here but still.

If you feel strongly about it, bring it up to the organizers.  I wouldn't expect much though :-(

By rules pacing is cheating, but if someone beat me that was paced I don't think the pacing would have crossed my mind.  In the end if they were able to rally out of a dark place to beat me, then I say they deserve it.

My view is probably wrong, but I would rather beat someone at their best than beat them when they're having a bad day.

No, not the organizers. I more meant actually confronting the person.

I doubt the organizers could do much, or really care to do much.

I more just wonder if the person thought it through. Because I too have thought about "supporting" someone on a course but hadn't really thought how those actions really create a disadvantage to everyone else.

No, again, I wouldn't want to change the outcome of the race. What was, was.

I more just think that they didn't think about it. And they are extremely high profile right now so I believe their actions matter, maybe more than most.

Isn't keeping their head in the game part of the competition though?

Well, furthermore I don't think this is good day vs bad day.

The mental effort sustained, holding onto a pace just barely within reach (which I think half-marathonning is, to a T) is part of the race. You can certainly work with your competitors or teammates if they are out there. That is part of the deal for sure.

I just think it's a different "deal" when you have the advantage of having someone come in fresh for 5 miles (at mile 5) and lead you through.

I agree, knowing how to pace yourself, using others in the race, being able to hold onto your pace etc are all integral parts of the race.  Having someone jump in to help you do these things is not acceptable IMO.

I understand, and good points are made here.  Do you think the pacing thing was planned?  Maybe the pacer saw a friend struggling and wanted to help.  This becomes a grey area, because if the friend gave a gel or some water to the racer, then I'd be pretty peeved.  By that logic alone maybe I should condemn the racer for allowing the friend to pace, but for some reason that's harder for me to do.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
