Me too?

I've been a closet DLer. My left knee is giving me real discomfort that has put me off training for almost a week. It's the outside of my knee, like LCL strain? No popping or grinding. Really don't know what I did. I have limited ROM...past 90* isn't happening without lip biting and can't step normally down the stairs. Upstroke on the bike is really unfun, but I can gimp it on short rides with kids.

I know I have a lot of scar tissue, but not sure how much would be in that area that would cause this right now. For those medically minded and those who just like others' torture, this summer is my 15yr "anniversary".

Matt, Randee, and Mary- races you weren't thrilled with, but done and learned from. And really, sans injuries, they're just springboards for the next one, right?

Adrienne- happy dance! Glad you're feeling good enough to pack your board up that peak.

My race went really well last night. It was a 4K distance on the trails and I was about redlined for the entire run. Which gave me a good idea of exactly how long I can run that hard.

Anyway, I ended up #1 woman. I'll do a rr soon. I took a different approach on this race just trying some stuff.

Insanely awesome.

Once, just once, it would be cool to know what it feels like to be the first anything.

Well, then you have this: http://www.runnersworld.com/columns/fear-and-self-loathing-at-the-races?cid=socMOT_20150610_47283746&adbid=10153378112992090&adbpl=fb&adbpr=23403427089

Which is inline with a previous conversation in the group.

It's a strange phenomenon.  I demonstrated it earlier as you mentioned.

"Self-loathing comes with its own set of problems, but I want to believe that an unwillingness to be content with a subpar performance might be beneficial, that it can fuel me in the future."

I definitely share the sentiment behind that quote.  It's a good motivator most of the time, but it can contribute to burnout.

I would say that it is rare that I am completely satisfied with the results of a race and I find the most competitive people that I know in my club and whatnot are the same. But I feel that self-loathing isn't very productive. I like to infuse as much positivity into what we are doing, even if we are never content.

"Happily, the most experienced—and the fastest—said they also beat themselves up when they don’t perform to their own expectations."

Then I guess I can say, happily, I'm neither of those things. "Self-loathing"? Hate myself because a race didn't go like I thought it should? Naw. And I think it's a far cry from "unwillingness to be content". I don't understand beating oneself up over something that is supposed to be for fun. I CAN understand preparing, having a plan, doing one's best, and not quitting.

(sigh. training anxiety much?)

On a lighter note...

"Heeeheehee...Oooooops! I forgot in there."

"in there" being THE ONE PLACE in this house I didn't look. Even after a week of doody duty, I still love her.

Got a little strength (the kind Ben would approve of) in the middle of my run today.

Some random lady asked me to help her put a TV in her van. No, actually she didn't ask me, she told me. And it turned into her directing me while she talked on her cell phone. As I struggled (it was a huge non-flat panel tv), finally the dude who had placed the tv on the street (with a free sign) came out of the house and helped me load it. All the while this random woman talked on her phone.

So strange.

Hmmmm. Given the limited ROM you might want to have it checked out.

And, you owe the dog an apology!

So some of us are keeping tabs on Hands' friend doing the AT.  Turns out that Scott Jurek is also doing it and trying for a speed record!

Yeah, it's insane. He's gotta log like 50 miles a day and he was having some knee issues on day 4 or something.

He's a hell of a runner though. I won't be at all surprised if he finishes it.
