Kate, that is sooooo awesome! Congrats!

Jen, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

My TT was good yesterday. More low key than the last, but good. I think my time improved but it's hard to compare because this course was slightly longer (i.e. not sure the first one was exactly 10 mi).

Was having some hip pain on Friday and Saturday but not Sunday so I kinda tied it to the running friday and saturday. So I didn't run this morning Frown Not sure if it is actually from the running or maybe an alignment issue.

Soooooo the TdF was awesome. I think Quintana is adorable! Sagan is pure awesomeness, until he speaks Embarassed. After watching these piglets for three weeks I have to decide whether or not to trek up to Denver to see them for the US Pro Challenge in a few weeks. But there is a sprint that I want to do here that weekend. But it's the pro's! Not sure which ones will be there. But it would be awesome to see! But it's a 7 hour drive to see them ride by for 30 seconds. But they are awesome! But I am dragging DH up there 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after for races. We could go to Utah instead. But I think Utah will get fewer of the "big names".  I dunno.Undecided

Sounds like you need to borrow some of Ann Marie's hands!!  Glad your TT went well.

LOL, I was going to make that offer!  Congratulations on the TT .

Congrats on your T4, Teej! (TT x2 )

Hm. Well, can you decide in a couple weeks? When you know better who'll be there? PIIIIIIIIGLETS

That's a good point. It's not like the local sprint is gonna sell out. Worst case I get the wrong size shirt Cool

I'm trying to figure out how to work the kick sets at masters so that I'm actually kicking during them, at least most of it. Still have a huge disparity between my swim and kick speeds where kicking would be several groups behind where my swim is at. Last night, for example, it 4 rounds of 75 and then 100 done on the same send-off. So the 75 was easier and the 100 was hard. I had no chance of making the 100's, so went all in on the 75's (still falling almost an entire length behind and swam the 100's. And by "all-in" I made it burn just as much as a series of 1-2 min bike intervals would. I made it on all 4 of the 75's, but not by much.

How could I work this better? Something I've had issues with previously is my feet getting worked too much by stretching. Today isn't too bad, so next time I could probably do a bit more. Probably not the whole set, but 400-500 would likely be ok. A couple ideas would be to kick 25-50 of the 100's and then swim the rest. Or somehow split Or maybe to do an occasional arm pull while kicking to help make up the speed.

The kick sets aren't regularly this big. Just trying to get ideas from a few more specific situations to know how to develop, and then it should be easier to apply to other set designs.

Random and off the top of my head ... are these with kickboard? Go sans--better for body position--and put in the occasional pull if need be. Got shorty fins? (I actually don't like those but med/long ones will make you too fast and might make your feet extend too much, if stretchiness is a problem)

Kicking isn't done with the legs, really ... it's done with the hips and core (nothing you don't know). Work on a kick that originates from the opposite shoulder and gets its real leverage/power from hip driving down.

I received some amazing/shocking/great news this morning! I got an email from a gentleman who is in charge of accepting article submissions for the "Animal Keeper's Forum" (Newsletter/magazine of the American Association of Zookeepers). I don't remember if I told you all about my article...I worked with the Sac Zoo's Lead Vet Tech on an article regarding our treatment of a bone infection on one of the Spur Thighed Tortoises--which involved a little wheeled cart (or "skateboard"). She wrote about the medical stuff while I took care of the biology, care, etc. of the tortoises in general. Anyway, our article was accepted and published in the April all turtle/tortoise issue...In any case, we (well, Alison, the tech, received it but forwarded it to me)received an email from that guy today saying this:

I have great news for you!  Your paper in the Chelonian Issue of the AKF was selected as the best of the year!  You and Kate are the 2013 Susan D. Chan Authors of the Year!  You will be receiving an award at the AAZK conference in September in North Carolina.  I'm hoping you both can attend.  Can you please send me your director's and supervisor's contact info so I can make them aware of your award, and ask them to consider sending you to the conference?

I am in shock, neither of us was expecting this at all! My supervisor called with congratulations and let me know that he would try to get us money to go to the conference, but it is iffy as the budget is really tight...so I am trying to figure out how I can come up with $900 or so to cover it all. Somehow, I will get there! I really want to visit NC anyway, but now I have a legitimate reason to get sent there! I just had to share my happy news! SmileCoolSmile

That's awesome!!  Congratulations!

Lots of great stuff going on in my life now as well ... not any less crazy busy (even more so!) but light's finally dawning with the business and court affairs. It's not massive daily drama and fuckets by noon anymore ... more like 3pm and every other day. After a downward trend Mutti's stabilized nicely re. the Alzheimer's again ... I think also getting her teeth finally fixed well also eliminated low grade chronic inflammation/infection that was not helping.

I learn amazing new things from Kingsley every day ... funny how I'm (ultimately) reaching for a Strait swim, and also Paralympics, and God dumps the world's best (continuing) swimmer and Paralympian in my lap. Kinda literally. But aside from his obvious utility (in MANY ways), he is simply an incredible person with whom I'm deeply grateful to share my heart and life. (And ... never mind, TMI)

He'll be coming down for Mutti's 80th birthday in October to meet the fam.

He was featured top of Sports page in our very own Jakarta Post (leading newspaper of one of the world's largest cities) and I was grousing to him about how every member of my family except me has been featured (not just mentioned or cited) in the JP ... lo and behold, I get a call from a JP reporter wanting to feature me in a triathlon article because it's become such a fast-growing sport/craze here ... AAAAAH I don't have two decent hi-res pics of me in competition! Must hunt!

Also scored an interview with a U.S.-based women's triathlon magazine through Chris Lieto's More Than Sport, which is working with the Bali Sports Foundation (which hosted the Paragames in Bali) to get Indonesian Paralympians to Rio. YAAAAAAAY

HAHA the only thing funnier than imagining you with umpteen hands like Kali is seeing them all twitch

Well, I AM the dullest and most stable one in my family o_O but I figure if he can handle everything life's thrown at him, he can probably survive my family for a couple days, especially during which most of the attention won't be about him (which he gets uncomfortable about anyway. Funny boy!).

Probably no time for a RR. Plus it's probably against Kentucky law. You can look in my logs and get a very general low-down and then use imagination to fill in the blanks.

That being said, I'm going to continue to be scarce for the foreseeable future but I'll keep my logs fairly current.

Keep on keepin' on ya'll!

No matter how much I work on my kick I think it gets worse and worse. I don't know why I just can't get this right. I may try to post another video soon and get y'all to analyze again. I've got to figure out a better balance in my swimming or I'm going to be pulling myself through the 2.4 miles in my Ironman next year

YAAAAAAAY

That's a LOT of cool stuff in a single post! So happy things are looking up for you! He's going to meet the fam?!?!?!?!? And congrats on the JP feature! US based women's tri mag?! Never heard of it!

Yeah, Salty's all freaked out about how fast it's going, which of course makes it even funner to go even faster ... kinda like triathlon.

We're not exactly by-halves people, either of us. Oh, and neither is Kingsley

I admit to being a bit old school, so I too am a bit concerned about the speed of this. But, if it works for you, then that is really what matters, isn't it?

I'm more concerned that my thought process is similar to Salty's.
