Ooh V-Day conversation.

The radio show I listen to (semi-syndicated) keeps talking about V-Day and how you HAVE to get your significant other something nice, and you HAVE to be romatic becuase it's just expected, etc. This PISSES me off! Says who??

All you have to do is communicate with your SO. Last year, I bluntly said to Tom "Hey let's not celebrate V-Day... cool?" and all of his friends were like "you didn't really fall for that, did you?"

Which made me mad, because I was completely serious. I wasn't playing a game, or trying to trick him, or secretly planning a gift or something. Nope. I just think it's a stupid holiday and a big waste of money. I mean, if you want to get me something, why use some made-up holiday as an excuse? And I sure as hell don't EXPECT someone to buy me something. And in our financial situation it would actually be pretty dumb to spend lots of money like most people do (much like Christmas!).

So we don't celebrate - simple as that. It is not the big deal people make it out to be, in a relationship or not.

At the end does it say "This message brought to you by Hallmark, _____________ Jewelry Store, and every nice restaurant in town."?  Because it should.  That would also be entertaining.

Haha no but it SHOULD.

These yahoos also said that guys should never get their girls any kind of exercise-related gift. They were advising some guy, whose GF had ASKED for some kind of boot camp membership, to not get it for her under any circumstances. Whatever.

I know we are a rare breed, but I asked for (and recieved) a ton of exercise-related stuff for Christmas. I mean, again, I wasn't trying to trick anyone. I really DID want a fitness ball!

I totally agree. I feel like I have been brainwashed by the consumerism of america that if I don't spend huge amounts of $$$ and get my girlfriend anything for V-day that I will be put into the guilt locker for all of eternity. I'm sorry, but I don't want to be guilted into doing something nice for her; I want to do it anytime I want because I feel like it. I feel like Christmas is becoming the same thing; i see Christmas as a time to see family and spend time with them, not being guilted into single handedly stimulating the economy.

Can't say I've ever been spooked by Valentines Day.

Oh for Pete's sake...I'm not even going to bother with this. I want a relationship some day. I don't think it's a bad thing to want that. I know I'm not perfect, but I know what I like and don't like, want and don't want. I'm not desperate, but I don't have obscene expectations. You can think I'm shallow or desperate, but I don't give a rat's a$$. End of story.

Wow, slow down.  I didn't say a single word about you.  I said "Can't say I've ever been spooked by Valentines Day." As you can see above.  That was a male perspective on a statement you made.

Do we need to start having "This message approved by Wurkit_gurl" on every post?

I don't think that V-day spooks me.  I just don't like a manufactured holiday to spend inordinate amounts of money.

The wifey and I go out all the time and celebrate just being together.  We give each other gifts on occasion just for the heck of it.

I don't like the idea of a day where everyone jacks up prices because people feel obligated to do something they should be doing the entire year.

Christina is just explaining that she doesn't bother with having a boyfriend named Pete because she doesn't want to seem desperate and is sometimes obscene and has expectations. She's shallow and likes rat's , whatever that means.

All I know is it's one of the three days a year along with your birthday and your anniversary when men are all but guaranteed sex from the wife.
